Tips: Get Yourself in Star Wars Celebration 2015

Mary Franklin | February 27, 2014

Jabba's Palace at Star Wars Celebration

As mentioned in my most recent blog, new Star Wars Celebration 2015 announcements are coming up this April, probably later in the month, to commemorate the one-year-out point of what promises to be one really big Star Wars show.

A integral part of every Star Wars Celebration is what fans bring to the event, both informally and as part of the official program. Just like Bantha Tracks, with the motto, “By the Fans; For the Fans,” Celebrations are as much fun as they are because fans are involved; because they contribute talent, energy, ideas, and creativity.

Want to be part of the show at Celebration 2015? Read on for some tips on what we’re looking for.

Here’s Where the Fun Begins!

Jason Surrell | January 17, 2014

That classic Han Solo line from A New Hope — I committed all of them to memory at age seven — is the perfect title for my first blog post here at StarWars.com. That’s because it’s an amazing time to be a Star Wars fan. In fact, it’s probably the very best time in the almost 40-year history of the saga. In the next two years alone, Star Wars will be returning to both the big screen and the TV screen with Star Wars Rebels and Episode VII, respectively. But it’s safe to say you all knew that!

A Star Wars Celebration Europe Surprise from Carrie Fisher and Official Pix

Chris Wyman | August 28, 2013

Each Star Wars Celebration is different for a variety of reasons. This rings true in everything from the guests and panels to the exclusives and special events. These differences are why fans keep coming back again and again, to experience a new and exciting time every few years all while celebrating something we all hold so dear to our hearts…Star Wars.

At Official Pix, we have the unique and challenging task of bringing cast and crew from the live-action films and The Clone Wars animated series to each Celebration. It’s a job, yes, but one that has some very rewarding moments mixed throughout the weekend. For example: Escorting Ian McDiarmid across the Exhibit Hall floor to browse the vendors, Artists’ Alley, and the Rancho Obi-Wan Experience, or spending 45 minutes to an hour with each autograph guest to do massive signings for our customers on a variety of items. Though in Germany, there was one instance that stood out above the rest and it has everything to do with a princess from Alderaan.

Star Wars Celebration Europe Trivia Challenge with TeeKay-421

DSC_0194

The TeeKay-421 Quizmeeting is an annual event, feared by all contestants. We thought Star Wars Celebration Europe would be an excellent opportunity to offer fans around the world a taste of what our trivia contests are made of.

After our idea was approved by Mary Franklin, our core team created a series of questions. Before we decided to go with the final selection of questions, we had several debates about which should be included and which shouldn’t. Since every member of the core team had his preferences, we found a great balance between movies, television, source, Expanded Universe, merchandising and behind the scenes. Some of our most difficult questions were abandoned, because we feared nobody would know the answer (the name of the last Snivvian dictator was among the deleted questions). We also immediately decided that the challenge should not be an easy one. There’s just no fun in answering easy questions, is there?

Caravan of the Force Days 2 and 3: “Prepare to Make the Jump to Hyperspace”

Day 2: Saturday, 20th July 2013

After the excitement and hustle of Friday’s day one, day two of the Caravan of the Force tour was a far more sedate affair. Starting the day with a much-welcomed breakfast at the Holiday Inn Bexley Heath we left London on Saturday morning and headed the 60 miles southeast towards Rochester and the Holiday Inn, our home for the day. We had time aplenty to enjoy the hotel and make the most of the time to rest, relax and finalize the plan for the following days, which we knew would be packed.

Star Wars Tattoos: The Return of the European Adventure!

Shane Turgeon | July 18, 2013

Six long years ago the first Celebration Europe event took over the London Excel Centre. To help promote The Force in the Flesh: Star Wars Inspired Body Art, a coffee table book I released that same year, we brought some of the popular tattoo programming elements we’d established in previous stateside Celebrations along with us. Our presence in Europe was small and tucked away on the second floor that year, right next to the incredible Vader Projects helmet display, but we made the best of it and had a great time at the show selling the book, displaying some incredible paintings done by some wonderfully talented UK-based tattoo artists and helping to “tattoo” and decorate a full-sized set of Stormtrooper armor. We also held one of our now famous Star Wars tattoo competitions and saw a phenomenal amount of incredible tattoo art from our European collector friends!
