Fan Throws the Ultimate Star Wars Party!

StarWars.com Team | October 4, 2010

Yoda Oreos and Blue Milk! Princess Leia cupcakes! Han Solo in Carbonite Jell-O! Double-sided lightsaber hot dogs and bacon-wrapped pretzel lightsabers! This may be the coolest (and tastiest) kids’ Star Wars party we’ve seen yet!

StarWars.com chats with Jenn from JustJennRecipes.com about her awesome Star Wars party and how you can throw one of your own!

Why did you decide to throw such an awesome Star Wars party?

Right now is a funny point in my kids lives, they are really into The Clone Wars and just starting to put two and two together about who Anakin really is in the older movies — “Numbers 4, 5, and 6″ as my youngest son calls them. I’ve been a fan for a long time, so now I feel like we are all on the same page, liking the same things — it’s great!

What part of the party got the biggest reaction?

People loved the Princess Leia cupcakes. I blog different cupcake recipes every week on my recipe site JustJennRecipes.com so I’m always trying to think up something new.

What was your favorite part of the party?

My favorite part of the party was drawing up all the new recipes. I know the movies pretty well and it was hard to stop myself from going overboard (believe it or not). The Han Solo in Jell-O was the most fun to make, just because I thought it was going to be hilarious and it turned out even better than I had hoped.

Why do you think fans of all ages need to throw their own Star Wars parties?

The movies provide so many references, the theming is endless! I don’t think it matters how old you are, Star Wars is fun for everyone. While this was a kids party, it was the adults who got the biggest kick out of all the recipes I came up with.

Bonnie Burton | August 27, 2010

While most fans use our Star Wars Drawing Tutorials to perfect their sketching skills, others take it a step further and use the unique designs to create one-of-a-kind cakes!

Artist Kevin Graham writes:

A while back I did a “How to Draw Yoda” tutorial for Starwars.com and today I received an email from a fan of my work. They made their daughter a birthday cake inspired by my drawing!

Bring Me the Head of Yoda…Cake!

Bonnie Burton | August 26, 2010

We’ve seen plenty fan-made Star Wars cakes, but this Yoda cake made be the most realistic-looking head of a Jedi Master we’ve ever seen! Most impressive…

I’m an artist who recently has gotten into cake decorating and have fallen in love with it! I’m currently taking the beginner cake decorating classes and hoping to land a job at a bakery. I decided to try making my first sculpted cake and chose Yoda as the subject. It was so much fun and I’ve found my passion!

This is a red velvet cake (with Rice Krispie treats for the ears) covered in fondant. I tried to get as much detail as I could. I wanted to finish the bust with fondant clothing over the neck area and covering the pan and plate but I ran out of time and fondant. Yoda was very yummy! Everyone said it was sad to cut into him, but we went to the dark side that night. :) Hopefully I will have time soon to continue the Star Wars theme with another sculpted cake.

Director Zack Snyder Tweets Yoda Unicorn Cake

Bonnie Burton | July 29, 2010

Filmmaker Zack Snyder recently started tweeting, which is exciting if you can’t wait to learn more about his upcoming action-fantasy film Sucker Punch.

We’ve already seen Snyder show off his Star Wars pride in a Watchmen Web doc, so it was only a matter of time before he tweeted about something Star Wars-related.

Sure enough, his fifth tweet was about his daughter’s birthday cake from Violet’s Cakes which so happened to be Yoda riding a unicorn. Bravo, Zack Snyder. Bravo.

AT-AT Wedding Cake!

Bonnie Burton | May 17, 2010

Just when you thought that infamous Dead Tauntaun Cake was the best bit of Star Wars fandom to ever invade a wedding, here comes the toppled AT-AT wedding cake with Ewok cupcakes!

This toppled AT-AT is one of my favorite cakes to date. I love the mini Admiral Ackbar and Mon Mothma but I think maybe the topper are the Ewok cupcakes that accompany this masterpiece. The bride, Rebecca Dudeiros, says that this cake wasn’t even made in a bakery. She had her buddy (a pastry chef herself though) Teresa Ulrich do it custom for her.

Nothing is yummier than an edible astromech!

I made an R2-D2 from candy melts and royal icing. Then, the Star Wars cake was inspired by the lovely multi-colored cakes from Amanda of i am baker. My son said he wanted red and blue layers…something about good and bad lightsabers.
