We already know how Star Wars costumes have influenced designers from Project Runway, but this is the first time we’ve seen a celebrity show off a designer dress that would easily blend in at any formal party thrown at the Death Star.

Granted, we would never give actress Kristen Wiig a Grade D (like Yahoo did) for her fashion sense. We proudly give her an A for Awesome!

Olivia’s Picks: The Rockabilly Rebel

StarWars.com Team | September 21, 2009

If you’ve submitted your awesome Star Wars Fan Movie pitches to G4 host Olivia Munn for Operation Olivia, you might be eager to hear that she’s now narrowed down her favorite ideas down to six!

First on the list? User Tony Castalucci’s Operation Olivia Pitch: Pulp Yavin.

Tony is an experienced filmmaker, guitar-gun slinger, and mentalist. I like him, he has experience in 3D and so do I (I’ve been in 3D my whole life!). And anyone with the balls to cast Olivia Munn as a relative of Porkins is a guy I’d like to meet.

Olivia was excited by the physical nature of Tony’s pitch saying, ”I like that this is all action. I’ve never done an intense action-packed skit before.”

Force is Strong with Robbie Williams

StarWars.com Team | September 16, 2009

It’s not every day you see a rock star walk around in his PJs carrying a lightsaber. Granted, that’s how we like to envision all our favorite celebs battling with lightsabers in their spare time.

So when the paparazzi caught British singer Robbie Williams walking around with a lightsaber we were pretty thrilled.

Now we just need to find him a Sith Lord to fight off.

The Daily Mail reports:

Robbie Williams appears to be relying on help from a higher Jedi power, as he makes his pop comeback. The singer channeled the force by carrying a Stars Wars style lightsaber, as he left the Meurice Hotel in Paris – commonly known as the City Of Lights – dressed in silk pyjamas and dressing gown. Wearing RayBan sunglasses and carrying a laptop it was a bizarre exit for the singer, who seems to have an unhealthy interest in all things science fiction or in his case science fact.

We’ve blogged before about how many Star Wars fans think President Obama is secretly a Jedi Knight. But this is the first time we’ve been handed photographic proof of Obama showing off his Force powers.

Sith Lords and bounty hunters beware!

According to Newsweek:

Here’s President Obama dueling with, yes, a Star Wars lightsaber at an event held this afternoon at the White House to promote Chicago’s bid for the 2016 Olympics.

Russell Brand’s AT-AT Bird Sanctuary

StarWars.com Team | September 14, 2009

We’ve previously reported about the makeshift AT-AT aviary for injured birds British actor and comedian Russell Brand made as a child and fondly wrote about in his memoir My Booky Wook, but here he is chatting about it with comedian Dawn French:

What kind of kid were you?

Insular. Unusual. I found it difficult to form relationships with people. Mostly I would prefer to make a relationship with a baby bird or perhaps a newt. Over the road from the street I grew up there was a chalk mine and army barracks all disused and overgrown. I would go over there and liberate bird fledglings from the tyranny of their bird parents. “You can’t be brought up by these idiot birds I’ll bring you up in the back of an AT-AT walker” — my Star Wars thing. And they died always, very quickly. It’s really hard to keep a baby bird alive.”

Pegg & Frost: Filming New Sci-fi Movie

StarWars.com Team | September 8, 2009

Star Wars fan and actor Simon Pegg is hard at work with fellow actor and best pal Nick Frost filming their next movie (which they also wrote) called Paul. They play two comic book geeks who go on a road trip to Nevada’s infamous Area 51. While in the middle of that desert, the two friends encounter a fugitive alien by the name of Paul.

Of course, it makes sense that in many of the behind-the-scenes video blogs, Simon is wearing an Empire Strikes Back t-shirt.

Rob Zombie Collected Star Wars Magazines

StarWars.com Team | September 2, 2009

While promoting his new film Halloween II, horror movie director and rocker Rob Zombie recently confessed to EW.com’s Popwatch that he had Star Wars collectibles as a kid.

What do you consider your geekiest possession?

I have a lot of weird crap. For some reason, I never threw anything away as a kid, and I was really meticulous about saving everything in perfect condition. So if I bought an album in 1972, it still has the shrink wrap on it and it’s still in mint condition. Even magazines. If a magazine came out in 1977 featuring Star Wars, I bought it and it looks like I bought it today. Any kind of Star Trek Mego action figures that are still in the garage somewhere — I don’t really want ‘em, I just don’t know what to do with ‘em.

Nathan Fillion Has Jedi Skills

StarWars.com Team | August 11, 2009

Actor Nathan Fillion is one of those actors who makes everything he touches awesome. He gave us the creeps as the evil preacher Caleb in the last epic season of Buffy The Vampire Slayer. He gave Han Solo a (parsec) run for his money as one of the hottest, most sarcastic heartthrobs in the galaxy as Captain Malcolm Reynolds on Firefly and Serenity. He made us laugh as the egostical and dubious superhero Captain Hammer in Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog.

He won our admiration when he urged his legions of Twitter followers to vote in the Star Wars Fan Movie Challenge.

And now, most recently, Fillion snuck in a Star Wars reference into his new detective show Castle. Sure the writers wrote the dialog, but Fillion talking about Jedi skills is full of awesome.

Novelist Richard Castle and Detective Kate Beckett have a discussion about how long she dated her ex boyfriend who just so happens to be an F.B.I. agent on the current case.

Beckett: “Six months.”

Castle: “Six months, what?

Beckett: “We dated for six months.”

Castle: “I didn’t ask.”

Beckett: “Yeah, I know. You were not asking very loudly.”

Castle: “I know, I’m like a Jedi like that.”

Kyle Newman Inducted By 501st Legion

StarWars.com Team | August 4, 2009

Photos: Lesley Farquhar

In addition to the 501st Legion uniting Star Wars fans worldwide, the group also recognizes those special people who contribute their time and talents to the Star Wars community. These people who support of the 501st and Star Wars fandom are called “Friends of the 501st Legion.”

During San Diego Comic-Con International 2009, the Southern California Garrison recognized Fanboys director Kyle Newman for his continual support of the 501st Legion as well as for his undying love for all things Star Wars.

Southern California Garrison XO Lesley Farquhar had this to say about their newest Friend of the 501st:

“We wanted Kyle Newman to be in the Legion for the simple fact that he’s as much of a fan as we are! His work on Fanboys shows his dedication to the Star Wars genre, and of course — by asking us to help out with various aspects of the film, he definitely made fans of us!”

Sponsored by garrison members Dan Wolsey and Kit Sovine, Kyle was presented a custom plaque, coin and custom name badge commemorating his “Friend of the 501st” relationship with the 501st Legion. The induction was a complete surprise to Kyle who was there just to take a fun photo with his favorite troopers.

Starwars.com chats with Kyle about his induction and why he’s honored to be officially part of the 501st Legion.

Milo Ventimiglia Inducted By 501st Legion

StarWars.com Team | July 31, 2009

In addition to the 501st Legion uniting Star Wars fans worldwide, it also likes to recognize those people who contribute their time and talents to the Star Wars community in special way. These people who support of the 501st and Star Wars fandom are called “Friends of the 501st Legion.”

During San Diego Comic-Con International 2009, one such person was recognized by the Southern California Garrison for his continual support of the 501st Legion as well as for his undying love for all things Star WarsHeroes actor Milo Ventimiglia.

Already well-known as a hardcore Star Wars fan as well as a fan of the 501st, Milo also supports real-life troops fighting overseas by working with the military veterans organization Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA).

Southern California Garrison XO Lesley Farquhar, who sponsored Milo’s induction, had this to say about their newest Friend of the 501st:

“Milo Ventimiglia has been a great Star Wars fan for years. Not only does he have fun with the lightsaber battles and props, but another similarity we have is our devotion to charity work. The 501st Legion is noted for its charity work for soldiers around the world, and this is something Milo has a passion for as well. Anyone with that kind of passion for charity and love for the genre fits right in! Now we just need to get him in armor!”

Milo was presented a custom plaque, coin and custom name badge commemorating his “Friend of the 501st” relationship with the 501st Legion. Keeping with tradition, the induction was a complete surprise to Milo who was ambushed by the Southern California garrison, and myself, at the end of his Top Cow comics panel at Comic-Con where he was promoting the two new comic titles his production company DiViDe Pictures is supporting — Rest and Berserker.
