1977 Star Wars Van Up for Bids

Pete Vilmur | March 17, 2008

For anyone who experienced Star Wars in the ‘70s, you’ll remember the custom van was as much a part of the mainstream as disco and shag carpet. And since pop-culture is notorious for cross-pollination (Star Wars disco, anyone?), we got ourselves a lot-full of customized Star Wars vans back in the day. While these were popular for a few years, most were either junked or painted over by the time the Reagan Era rolled in.

But once in a blue moon-roof, one of these anachronistic behemoths of the ‘70s rears its chrome-tipped tailpipes to count itself among the survivors of a lost moment in pop culture history. And as all things eventually reach eBay, one of these rare gems is currently riding a modest bid of just one grand – roof rust and all.

We’re hopeful the winner will decide keep the original Star Wars deco – and that, um, ‘classic’ ‘70s interior. An 8-track quadraphonic looping Star Wars and Other Galactic Funk might be a nice touch, too. Check out the eBay listing here.

While watching the cool environmental vlog ZapRoot, we couldn’t help but notice the snarky host Jess giving props to the R2-D2 Obi Shawn car that many Star Wars fans see pop up at various conventions like Comic-Con and Celebration.

The Dodge Avenger Tuner – Stormtrooper is a sophisticated sedan designed to appeal to an adult tuner with an appreciation for technical superiority, exhilarating performance and unbridled luxury and style. The technical, yet organic nature of the Stormtrooper costumes from Star Wars inspired its execution. The Avenger Stormtrooper represents the holistic fusion of technology, racing, comfort and performance.

Coke Landspeeder Leaves Impound Team | July 18, 2007

In June, reported the discovery of a Coke landspeeder in a Florida impound lot, donated to the city of Cedar Grove a couple of years ago after a long career as a parade mascot.

Now, the Panama City News Herald is reporting that it’s finally getting out of impound, by virtue of a local production company:

A Jacksonville production company, Crown Productions, saw Cedar Grove’s landspeeder online and obtained permission from the city to borrow it for use in a new “Star Wars” pilot series. Once it acquires network notoriety, the production company management has said the landspeeder’s value will be six figures.
