Star Wars Insider #147 cover

This month in Bantha Tracks Volume 80, tucked nicely into Star Wars Insider #147, you will find the annual “Best of the Year” edition. It’s one of my favorite issues of the year to do, and it seems only fitting that a good solid tease of the “BOY” is included here on StarWars.com.

Read on for a taste of the best in images, events, and snapshots of the “life Star Wars” from your fellow fans, and maybe even from you!

I grew up with Star Wars. It was as a huge part of my childhood development. I am 31 years old, Episode IV is older than I am. I never had a chance to see the original trilogy in the theaters. My first memories of Star Wars came from watching The Empire Strikes Back on an old VHS tape, recorded off of television. It wasn’t until we received a collector’s edition VHS set for Christmas that I experienced a Star Wars movie without the bits of commercials. Regardless, these stories are so powerful that, for me, three decades have passed and the films are still exciting and have progressed from simply a piece of pop culture to a modern day mythology.

George Lucas’ Grand Vision Ties Together the Wonders of Art and Storytelling

Steve Sansweet | March 11, 2013

Brocure cover

Years ago I had a dream. My collection of Star Wars memorabilia kept growing. And while friends could stop by sometimes and see it, wouldn’t it be great to have some way to actually share it with a lot of other fans and collectors! It took a great deal of planning and a lot of time, but the result is Rancho Obi-Wan.

George Lucas announced his latest dream to the world last week. It’s somewhat more expansive than mine, but born of the same kinds of passions: falling in love with something, having the chance to collect what you love, and then sharing it with the world. The Lucas Cultural Arts Museum will be an institution like no other: It will concentrate on populist illustrative art that tells a story, art that goes back more than a century and a half and continues into tomorrow with the latest in the digital and cinematic arts.

Star Wars Art: Why I Love It

Steve Thomas Preview Image R2D2 Star Wars

If I press really hard into the corners of my brain, the earliest memory I have of Star Wars is a set of Return of the Jedi bed sheets and a Kenner Darth Vader figure, that I would imagine my mother bought for me. I was two years old when Jedi came out, so I’m not entirely sure at what age my parents decided to plop me down to watch the holy trilogy, but I do know that it put a significant stamp on my childhood and has stayed with me these past 30 years.
