Princess Leia Jury Duty on 30 Rock

Bonnie Burton | March 13, 2009

Ever get called for jury duty hoping to find a handy way out of it? Whatever you do, don’t dress up as Princess Leia, talk in a low voice and call officers of the court Imperial Guards.

On this week’s episode of 30 Rock — “The Funcooker”, Liz Lemon played by Tina Fey dresses up like Princess Leia to do just that, with hilarious results.

Here’s some dialog from the episode:

“And I don’t really think it’s fair for me to be on a jury because I’m a hologram.”

“Excuse me Imperial Guard, how long do these arson trials typically last?”
“Couple weeks proabably, and you can drop the voice.”
“This used to get me out of jury duty in Chicago all the time.”
“This ain’t Chicago, honey. Look at these people.”

Galactic Senate on 30 Rock

StarWars.com Team | January 9, 2009

If you caught this week’s episode “Senor Macho Solo” in Season 3 of 30 Rock, then you may have noticed some awesome flirting saturated with Star Wars references between Liz Lemon (played by Tina Fey) and a possible love interest Stuart played by actor Peter Dinklage.

Stuart: It’s my fault for wanting to hear all about your job, it’s just so much more interesting than the UN.

Liz Lemon: Oh come on, really? You have all those different languages and the costumes and that big meeting room; it must be like working in the Galactic Senate in Star Wars.

Stuart: They are similar. We are also very concerned about the growing influence of the Sith lords.

Tina Fey as Princess Leia?

Bonnie Burton | November 7, 2008

Next time you want to get excused from jury duty, try dressing like Princess Leia. In this week’s episode of the hit show 30 Rock (Season 3: Episode 2 – “Believe in the Stars”), Liz Lemon (played by Tina Fey) gets out of jury duty in Chicago by doing just that.

“I never get put on a jury. I wear my Princess Leia costume and they dismiss me immediately.”

Sure enough, she wears the classic A New Hope garb to jury duty and says in a rather bizarre accent: “I don’t think it’s really fair for me to be on a jury because I can read thoughts.” “DISMISSED!”

Tina Fey as Princess Leia?

StarWars.com Team | October 19, 2007

As previously reported, Tina Fey — former SNL head writer, and currently the star and creator of the hit comedy “30 Rock” — is a Star Wars fan.

In the October 2007 issue of Geek Monthly magazine (available at newsstands and online), Fey mentions her brief stint as Princess Leia on “Saturday Night Live.”

“I was C-3PO for Halloween a couple of times. Once when I was nine. I’ll do it again when I’m 40. One time I did a sketch that got cut from SNL where I was going to play Princess Leia, my dream come true. That was the funniest thing ever just because putting that costume on — and I didn’t look like her or anything — but you put that costume and that wig on and nerds go bananikers. People were just staring at me in the hall, all these extras and background people and nerds wanted to talk to me all the sudden. Guys have a real weird thing for that outfit.”

In fact Princess Leia herself — Carrie Fisher — will guest star on “30 Rock” as writer Rosemary Howard for an upcoming episode that will air Oct. 25, 2007.

Tina Fey Talks Star Wars

StarWars.com Team | September 17, 2007

SNL vet and “30 Rock” creator/star Tina Fey chats with Crave Online about the show and why there seemed to be so many Star Wars references last season. The show recently won an Emmy, and we can’t help but wonder if there was a connection between getting an Emmy and dropping a few Vader jokes? We’re just saying…

Who is responsible for weekly Star Wars joke or reference?
Well, it started happening organically last year that we realized we had a Star Wars reference in almost every show. Then it became a thing where we tried to keep it going. I don’t think we got every single show but we have a pretty high batting average.

Is there one key geek who does all that stuff?
Robert Carlock, one of our EPs, is usually the resident expert. I can chime in a little bit but I’m not quite as good of a Star Wars wonk as he is.
