Hallmark sends a heads-up that they’ve got a new Star Wars first available in stores and as a mini e-card — a Darth Vader Thanksgiving greeting!
The image above shows the cover of the card available in stores, which includes a sound chip that plays “The Imperial March” when opened (and also reveals an image of the Death Star with the quote “Who Wants Dark Meat?”).
The Vader Carver image can also be sent as a mini e-card, available here.

On a recent episode of The Simpsons, Bart gets inspiration to build a robo-pet for his science project from his dog Santa’s Little Helper wearing a Darth Vader helmet. Of course, Homer takes the accidental costume a bit too seriously… or just right.
Bart: “Hey what if we make some kind of robo-pet?”
Martin: “What made you think of that?”
(Bart points to his dog wearing a Darth Vader helmet. Dog with helmet walks into the hallway and intercepts Homer.)
Homer: (screams and bows down to dog) “Thy will be done Lord Vader. Just don’t hurt me, oh please!”

H-57 Creative Station, a boutique advertising agency and design studio based in Milan, Italy, had a small idea that blossomed into an Internet
phenomenon.
Its three principles, Matteo Civaschi, Gianmarco Milesi, and Sabrina Di Gregorio, all happen to be huge Star Wars fans and last November they decided to make a series of promotional posters of Star Wars characters exclusively through the use of existing—and mostly older—
type fonts. They printed some as gifts for customers to show H-57’s creativity. Then the images of Darth Vader, Yoda, and a Stormtrooper—using typefaces with names like Bodoni Bold and Helvetica Light Condensed—were posted online and within days went viral. The agency received hundreds of emails from new fans all over the world.

Joe Yglesias collects Star Wars bootlegs — that is, quasi-Star-Wars-related merchandise that sports names like “Star Force”, “Star Battle”, “Space Gambler”, and “Star Knight” — which bear more than just a passing resemblance to characters, hardware, and weapons from our favorite faraway galaxy. Most of this stuff has been ignored, or even shunned by collectors — until now. Star Wars bootlegs and knock-offs have begun taking on a novel appeal among a growing number of fans, especially those who recall spying the stuff on their local dime store shelves back in the ’70s.

“When I started getting into bootlegs it was just for the novelty factor,” says Yglesias, who recently devoted an entire room of his house to display his Star Wars knock-off collection. “As I delved deeper into bootlegs, they took over as my prime interest. I was intrigued by them, partially for the cheese factor of the badly made, oddly-colored toys, and partially for the history of the items and how/where they were made. Now, easily 15 years later, I’ve sold or traded the majority of my licensed items and turned my collection area into a shrine for misfit Star Wars toys from around the world.”
Check out Yglesias’ Flickr set of over 130 pics from “Mos Yglesias”, a motley, expansive collection of Star Wars knock-offs from the US to Yugoslavia (and in some cases, even the molds that made them!).

Wired.com recently posted a great set of photos that magically capture the retro-inspired Super Shogun Stormtrooper toy in settings decades before its release. Well, “magically” if you’ve never heard of Photoshop.
From Wired:
In Super7’s Christmas-themed ad campaign, the 2-foot-tall toy — which is a mashup of classic Star Wars action figures and vintage Japanese Shogun Warriors robots — makes an appearance in a series of warm-and-fuzzy photos supplied by Star Wars fans. The images pack the same vintage vibe as the “lost” ’70s-style Stormtrooper Super Shogun TV commercial that Super7 produced earlier this year.
For the postcard series, photographer D. Martin Myatt, who also works at RebelScum.com, asked fans from the collectibles site to donate actual ’70s and ’80s photos of themselves holding Star Wars toys. (The names used on the cards are the names of people in the pictures.) With a little Photoshop magic, the Stormtrooper Super Shogun became a part of the memories.
Check out the pseudo-retro Shogun goodness at wired.com.
Super 7 is also hosting a charity auction that will award the winning bidder a SUPER SHOGUN STORMTROOPER Engineering Test Prototype – get the details here.
