Ewoks Photobomb Vacation Photos!

Bonnie Burton | September 26, 2011

While most of our parents let us believe in Santa, the Easter Bunny, Hanukkah Harry and the Tooth Fairy for as long as they could, not every many of them would photoshop them into your family vacation photos.

So when awesome “Dad of the Year” Anthony Herrera photoshopped imagines of Ewoks into his family’s vacation photos so his kids could continue believing that the beloved inhabitants of Endor really existed.

You can check out all his Yub Nubtastic photos here:
This is What Happens When Your Dad’s A Graphic Designer: Ewoks!

Anthony Herrera writes on his blog:

Being the Star Wars geek that I am (so is she), I told her that this is where the Ewoks live. She spent a good chuck of our time hiking keeping a lookout for any Ewoks. Coming home I can’t say that she wasn’t disappointed that we didn’t find any. I had to explain that they are extremely shy and hardly ever let anyone see them. After we got home, and after I had a little time alone with the photos, I told her I thought I saw something strange in a few pictures.

We viewed them on the TV to get a larger image. You can imagine how surprised and excited she was when we discovered that we didn’t see any Ewoks, but they saw us, and had certainly taken an interest in her and her little brother. Maybe I’m a little wrong for lying to her and falsifying the pictures, but I don’t care. She’ll never forget the time she spent in the big woods with Ewoks.

Death Star Cosplay Dress!

Bonnie Burton | July 29, 2011

When I first came across vlogger and craftster Jennifer Landa and her awesome Star Wars videos on Youtube I knew eventually she’d create an amazing cosplay Star Wars costume, and sure enough she did!

At this year’s San Diego Comic-Con International, she debuted her fancy Death Star dress complete with galaxy tights and a TIE Interceptor hair accessory! StarWars.com chats with Jennifer about her Imperial couture that would make even Darth Vader smitten.

Why did you decide to make a cute dress of the Death Star?

For months I couldn’t decide what I wanted to cosplay as! I just knew I wanted to do a quirky take on someone or something from the Star Wars universe. I had seen a Death Star costume before and loved the idea of cosplaying as a thing instead of a person. I love personifying objects! So when I saw Robin E. Kaplan’s adorable print of a girl dressed as a Death Star, I freaked out. Her Death Star character was so cute and feminine and anything but a scary super weapon! After that, I knew I had to go as Miss Death Star.

How did you come up with the design?

I wanted the costume to have a space-age yet retro feel! So I decided to make the Death Star more like an exaggerated bubble skirt. I cut the skirt so it was a shorter length and chose a form-fitting bodice. For me, it was important to keep the whole look feminine and flattering. When I was designing the costume, I came up with the character “Miss Death Star.” I imagined her to be a cross between Ethel Merman and Judy Garland. I know, it’s a little strange but the fun part about cosplaying is really getting into character!

How to Make a Snow AT-AT!

Bonnie Burton | February 28, 2011

So you have a lot of snow and you’d like to recreate one of the coolest battles in the Star Wars films? Get your mittens on and start packing snow into an AT-AT worthy of Hoth!

Miguel Valenzuela writes:

My daughter sitting on top of an AT-AT Snow Sculpture. It’s about 4 feet tall (1.2 meters). I know the main canons are a bit big but anything smaller just wasn’t holding or showing up. I built it over a period of two days. About 3 hours the first day then one hour the second day. By leaving it overnight it helped freeze the top layer making it stronger.

Yoda Christmas Cake

Bonnie Burton | December 20, 2010

Check out this awesome Force-tastic Star Wars Christmas cake made by Tara from Cloud Nine Confections in North Vancouver, BC.

My favorite thing about this cake is Yoda. In Star Wars, Yoda is always shown as being very old. I love the image of Yoda as a kid, standing by his Christmas Tree, waiting impatiently for Santa Claus. I almost feel sorry for Santa! He better give Yoda everything he asked for or Yoda has a present (aka his lightsaber) ready for Santa.

Making Darth Fairy!

Bonnie Burton | October 11, 2010

Inspired by the pretty in Pink Princess Vader costume, this fan took it a step further to create a purple Darth Vader costume for her youngling!

With last year’s fairy costume in hand I set out to make her dreams come true. We had an old Darth Vader mask that I primed and spray painted lavender. Princess Fierce brought me a broken toy crown that I took apart, painted green, added purple glitter sparkles and mounted to the mask.

I redesigned the straps to the mask to be purple and green ribbon from the sides and one piece with loops across the top. Allowing me to tie a bow through the loop and basically make a net that sat on her head. She was ecstatic. The mask wasn’t too tight but yet did not slip. She wore it comfortably for most of 8 hours.

With mask done I moved on to what every good fairy needs…a wand. I found some adorable lavender flowers for half price at Hobby Lobby. Score! I spray painted a styrofoam ball, with thumb pressed dimple. I added on Death Star detail with a green sharpie then glued it into the flower’s center. Add some green and lavender ribbon to the flower stem and we have the Death Star Flower Wand.

The final touch was Vader’s control panel. Using a picture of Vader for a guide I cut out pieces of purple and green felt and glued them down to a purple panel. Stitched the panel on to the fairy costume and Darth Fairy was born.
