We released this new Star Wars by Her Universe quote tee just in time for Valentine’s Day. No, this is not a shameless plug for our new shirt…it’s my hope for all of us this Valentine’s week. I hope that each one of you has a Valentine in your life, someone you love. It could be your husband, wife, boyfriend, girlfriend, best friend, mom, dad, sister, brother, aunt, uncle, cousin, neighbor, co-worker…I think you get the point. Valentine’s Day is not just a romantic holiday, but a holiday to show someone in a completely platonic way, how much you care and how much they mean to you.

Her Universe: An Army of Fangirls!

A fangirl revolution started a few years ago when we launched Her Universe. It was not a single effort by me or my team, it was a united effort by an army of fangirls — starting with Star Wars fans. We were tired of settling for Star Wars clothes made for men and boys and we wanted merchandise made just for women. Lucasfilm recognized its female fans and gave me the opportunity to make Star Wars products as the first collection for my company, Her Universe.

Star Wars And Her Universe Shine The Spotlight On Fangirls!

Last week the Star Wars community was consumed with headlines of bullying and hurt feelings. The good news is that our community rallied together and condemned the thoughtless act of mockery and turned it into a teachable moment. However, amidst all of the negative headlines, something extremely exciting happened and I’d like to shine the spotlight on something positive in our community. (Of course I’m biased, but bear with me.) At Celebration VI, we had a Her Universe photo shoot for female Star Wars fans. Girls have been asking me for the past two years if they could be a Her Universe model. Her Universe is a brand for the fans and when the fans tell me what they want, I do my best to make it happen. So we were able to arrange a free photo shoot for any girl that showed up to strike a pose and have their photo taken by professional photographer Preston Mack.

SWCVI: Calling All Fangirls to Strike a Pose at Celebration VI

This week, we announced our Her Universe plans for Celebration VI. One of the events I’m most excited about is our Her Universe photo shoot! Girls have been telling me for the past two years that they want to be a Her Universe model. Well I agree, and I’m so excited to finally be able to get everyone together for a professional photo shoot! Fangirls come in all ages, shapes and sizes and I want to represent our Her Universe brand with real fans. Professional photographer Preston Mack, who shot my Ahsoka Tano cosplay photos seen here in this CNN Geek Out! article, has graciously offered his time and talents to come to Celebration VI and take photos all day on Saturday August 25th from 10 AM- 7PM in room W305A. This photo shoot is FREE of charge and all of the photos will be posted on Facebook on a special Her Universe photo board for girls to tag and share their photos with friends and family! There will be a sign-up sheet posted right outside of room W305A starting at 10 AM for girls to come and sign up for a shoot time at some point during the day and it’s first come, first served. Please come in your favorite Star Wars by Her Universe shirt, jewelry piece, bag or hat and if you don’t have a Her Universe item, we will have something you can slip on just for the shoot! All ages are encouraged to attend and if you would feel more comfortable shooting as a duo to trio, that’s fine too! Maybe a Mother and daughter shot or three best of friends…we just want girls to come and show off their Star Wars fandom, have fun, strike a pose and Flaunt Your World!!!

Whew! San Diego Comic Con is over and it was SO much fun! It was great to see all of my old friends and meet some new ones! One of the highlights of my Con experience was the third annual Her Universe panel. I was inspired by the NBC show Fashion Star, where up and coming fashion designers have the opportunity to show their designs to the experts and retail buyers.

Comic-Con 2011: Han in Ice, Her Universe & Hallmark

If you had any doubts that R2-D2 and Han Solo are the coolest characters in Star Wars before, Kotobukiya has a product that finally proves it with these ice and chocolate mold silicone trays.


In their booth in the Star Wars Pavilion at Comic-Con 2011 in San Diego, CA, fans can see Han in Ice and R2-D2 on the rocks with this fun display.

Her Universe is also back in full “Force” at this year’s Comic-Con, showing off their latest geek girl Star Wars fashions. “May The Force Be With Katie” Day

When we reported about a little girl named Katie being bullied at school liking Star Wars, we knew that our fans would rally to her cause.

Not only did Katie get hundreds of positive comments on her mom’s blog entry about the incident, we got over 500 comments (and they’re still coming) from fans on our own blog entry about why Star Wars is for everyone, not just the fellas.

We asked fans to show support of Katie liking Star Wars with the hashtag #MayTheForceBeWithKatie on Twitter, and thousands of both male and female fans did just that. #MayTheForceBeWithKatie went viral, showing that sometimes the best part of social networking sites is the positive outcome that develops from millions of fans showing a little girl why it’s cool for her to dig Jedi, stormtroopers, droids and everything else awesome from a galaxy far, far away.

The fans took it a step further and decided to turn Dec. 10, 2010 into “Support Star Wars and Geek Pride for Katie Day” on Facebook. On this day, fans (both guys and girls) vowed to wear a Star Wars shirt in support of Katie and other little girls who love Star Wars. In addition to the T-shirt support, Katie’s mom also asked that, in light of the season, those with the means donate a Star Wars toy to needy children.
