Fully Operational Fandom: Tatooine Looks Awfully Bright to Me

It was a chilly November morning in Death Valley National Park — not as cold as it had been the night before when I was snuggled in a sleeping bag-blanket burrito in my tent — but still cold enough. I’d visited the park before, but I’d returned this time with a purpose grander than sightseeing: I was going to find Tatooine. I’d only recently learned that pickup shots for A New Hope and Return of the Jedi were filmed in California.

The Empire Strikes Back Uncut: The Jedi Kids Are Alright

Kids Strike Back Star Wars

We love getting new scene submissions for The Empire Strikes Back Uncut, because we know every re-creation is going to bring together a whole different cast of props, costumes, effects, and characters. And boy do we get characters.

Some of our favorite performances are from the youngest Jedi who are filling big, adult-sized acting shoes. Or even Artoo-sized shoes. And many kids are even getting behind the camera or taking on other roles in the production process.

Star Wars Uncut The Empire Strikes Back

In 2009, we started Star Wars Uncut with little more than a big dream of getting fans involved in the Star Wars story. Turns out that dream got a lot of people excited. We had thousands of participants—young, old, animated, and furry. It was a lot of learning on the fly, as we figured out how to bring the new concept to life alongside our awesome contributors. A New Hope Uncut was born out of our collective labor of love and the best part was seeing what we could all do together.
