We’ve seen Wookiee dogs, AT-AT dogs and Ewok cats, but this is the first Wampa Dog, and he couldn’t be cuter.

Every year Dr. Andrews comes up with a new costume for her dog Chubbs. This year was no exception. Remember the Wampa monster from The Empire Strikes Back, that captures Luke and hangs him upside down in his cave, then Luke uses the force to grab his lightsaber and cut the Wampa’s arm off and escapes? Well, this year Chubbs is the Wampug!

We’ve already seen dogs that look like Wookiees, so it was only a matter of time before we started seeing cats dressed as Ewoks. Here’s an especially cute feline that would make Wicket proud.

This year, I opted not to carve a pumpkin. Instead, I channeled my crafty impulses into making something for Lilly. Something awesome. I made her a Wicket costume.
Thank goodness Ewok headdresses are so poorly sewn
(Ewoks may have opposable thumbs but they’re still pretty bad with a needle), it makes my ineptitude look authentic.

Look through any family photo album from the 1970s or ’80s and you will undoubtedly happen upon a fading old photo of a young Star Wars fan decked out in one of the ubiquitous Star Wars costumes of the era, a Ben Cooper Darth Vader, Princess Leia, Yoda or any number of other characters.
Ben Cooper, a Star Wars costume licensee between 1977 and 1983, created over a dozen costumes based on characters from the original trilogy, each bearing funky graphics paired with an equally amusing plastic mask. These were made for kids, after all, and were essentially disposable with a price-point to match (usually under $4).

For one night every year, the creative minds of Industrial Light & Magic are loosed upon the world to determine which among them — artist, sculptor, rigger, or animator — can conjure up the coolest, cleverest, creepiest or kookiest Halloween costume.
The annual ILM Halloween Party has long been a tradition for the Bay Area special effects house, an event originally staged at Industrial Light & Magic’s San Rafael, California address. Though the venue has changed in recent years, the party goes on, and with it, a new festive invitation for company employees.
Until recently, ILMers and employees of the various Lucasfilm divisions received a physical invitation to the Halloween party, which often exhibited cool and quirky artwork designed and illustrated by the ILM Art Dept. In 2009, the invitations went digital, and for 2011, the very first video invitation has been created, courtesy of ILM’s Shawn Feeney (you can check out Feeney’s stop-motion pumpkin-carving prowess here).
Be sure to also check out the last fifteen or so year’s worth of ILM Halloween Party invites below (some have been slightly modified to hide venue info), and if 2005 turns up, we’ll update the post!

With several false starts attempting to justify the existence of the 1977 Chewbacca 3-Piece Disguise Kit, we have decided to simply post these pics without comment…
…except to say that the final shot below is of an 11-year-old donning the “disguise” before we realized it was meant, as the package reads, “for teens and adults.”

This adorkable AT-AT dog costume made the rounds last week online. As a craftster, I am always curious how fans make their elaborate cosplay costumes, especially for their pets.
StarWars.com chats with artist and photographer Katie Mello — who works as a Character Fabricator at LAIKA/house, an animation studio (Coraline) in Portland, Oregon — about how she made the AT-AT costume for her dog named Bones!
What is the back story of these photos? Why dress up your dog as an AT-AT?
I have been a Star Wars fan forever. When I was younger, I wanted to work for Industrial Light & Magic when I grew up. I studied everything I could about “special effects.”
By the time I got into college it was clear that everything would be done with computers and I was more interested in making tangible artwork. Lucky for me I discovered stop-motion animation. Now I build puppets for stop-motion productions, and have developed the skills that I need to make just about anything I want.
From the first time we saw Bones, an Italian Greyhound, my husband and I thought he looked like an AT-AT. He has such an unusual shape. Three years later, I finally made him this costume. I also used this opportunity to improve my patterning and sewing skills.
What did you make the costume out of?
First I made a costuming dummy out of upholstery foam, so I could minimize the amount of fittings that I would have to do on Bones. His comfort is important to me. To make the form, I carved the foam into Bones likeness and made sure it matched his measurements. This made the whole process much easier, and I can make other costumes for him very easily now.
The main body is a super-stretchy cotton/spandex, which I patterned for Bones using a shirt that he wears to keep warm. I also made a stretchy cowl to go over his head. I airbrushed this while it was on the costume dummy using airbrush paint.

What made you want to dress up as a Muppet Trooper?
Mike Lica: Before Star Wars there were the Muppets . I was 9 years old when the Muppets came out and the Muppets were still a big hit when Star Wars arrived. These were the two things all kids talked about and then it happened — Star Wars and the Muppets meet on The Muppet Show. This was great because back then you really looked forward to Star Wars characters appearing on shows like the Muppets, Donnie & Marie show etc. One day Derek and I were talking about this project and knew it would be possible if the right planning was done and after month’s of preparation we finally made it a reality. I look forward to the next time we can make another appearance as Muppet Troopers.
Derek Lane-Waters: I grew up watching Star Wars and the Muppets. I have always connected with both, especially when Frank Oz performed as Yoda. Plus my favorite episode of The Muppet Show was the Star Wars episode with Luke, Chewie, C-3PO and R2-D2.

When I first came across vlogger and craftster Jennifer Landa and her awesome Star Wars videos on Youtube I knew eventually she’d create an amazing cosplay Star Wars costume, and sure enough she did!
At this year’s San Diego Comic-Con International, she debuted her fancy Death Star dress complete with galaxy tights and a TIE Interceptor hair accessory! StarWars.com chats with Jennifer about her Imperial couture that would make even Darth Vader smitten.
Why did you decide to make a cute dress of the Death Star?
For months I couldn’t decide what I wanted to cosplay as! I just knew I wanted to do a quirky take on someone or something from the Star Wars universe. I had seen a Death Star costume before and loved the idea of cosplaying as a thing instead of a person. I love personifying objects! So when I saw Robin E. Kaplan’s adorable print of a girl dressed as a Death Star, I freaked out. Her Death Star character was so cute and feminine and anything but a scary super weapon! After that, I knew I had to go as Miss Death Star.
How did you come up with the design?
I wanted the costume to have a space-age yet retro feel! So I decided to make the Death Star more like an exaggerated bubble skirt. I cut the skirt so it was a shorter length and chose a form-fitting bodice. For me, it was important to keep the whole look feminine and flattering. When I was designing the costume, I came up with the character “Miss Death Star.” I imagined her to be a cross between Ethel Merman and Judy Garland. I know, it’s a little strange but the fun part about cosplaying is really getting into character!
