Megan Fox Ponders Slave Leia Costume

StarWars.com Team | June 23, 2009

We love that Megan Fox is a Star Wars fangirl. While promoting her latest film: Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, she chats with Collider.com about being excited about going to this year’s San Diego Comic-Con.

She’s not sure she’ll be able to roam the Comic-Con floor, but she wishes she could check out the Top Cow booth, pick up a few t-shirts, and dress up like Slave Leia!

Do you like Comic-Con?

I love Comic-Con.

Do you get to walk on the convention floor?

I don’t know if I’ll get to this time without security, and that’s embarrassing. I don’t want to walk everywhere with security. I don’t even need it. But they’re so fearful that I need it, they give it to me. I would love to go to the Top Cow booth, and go find a t-shirt or two. But I don’t know if I’ll be able to do that.

Some famous actors have talked about wearing a costume, like a stormtrooper outfit, and then they walk around by themselves.

My inital thought was Princess Leia Slave. That would be like the opposite of what I want to do as far as needing security, I guess.

San Jose Super-Con 2009 Recap

StarWars.com Team | May 26, 2009

(Jane Wiedlin poses with 501st and wee little fan)

Not all conventions are made equally. While San Diego Comic-Con International is still considered the Mother Ship of geektastic gatherings, some of the smaller conventions still hold a special place in my heart. San Jose Super-Con (held May 16-17, 2009) is one of those tiny conventions that still believe comics, not movies, are king.

Here’s a recap of what you might have seen/heard/witnessed/tweeted if you were there.

Wellington Dance Trooper

Bonnie Burton | April 29, 2009

Looks like Tokyo Dance Trooper isn’t the only stormtrooper who can do the Electric Slide in full armor.

Check out the moves from Wellington Dance Trooper — Shane Cornwell — from New Zealand. In this video he dances in the streets, in the nightclubs and everywhere in between.

K-ON! Trooper

Tokyo Trooper Danny Choo dances with a guitar to the song “Cagayake! GIRLS!” Watching Danny dance in armor makes me wish we actually did a Star Wars musical! He gets extra points dancing with Cosplay girls.

Does Threepio Have a Sole?

Pete Vilmur | April 1, 2009

According to Hollywood Lost and Found, he does.

While millions of fans have seen the soles of Darth Vader, R2-D2, and C-3PO immortalized in front of Grauman’s Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, the original gold protocol droid’s costume didn’t include the gizmo-encrusted soles pressed into the cement in the famous landmark’s forecourt. Apparently, these soles were special-made for the footprint ceremony (which took place August 3, 1977), and currently reside in a private collection.

WonderCon 2009: Best Costumes

Bonnie Burton | March 5, 2009

Half the fun of going to WonderCon every year in San Francisco is seeing all the costumed fans who dress up as superheroes, pirates, steampunkers, movie and video game characters and even Muppets!

We’ve already profiled our favorite Star Wars costumes this year, but here’s a list of some of the other costumes we couldn’t get enough of.

Superheroes:
It’s just not a comic book conventions without fans dressing like characters in actual comic books. Little kids and growups alike don masks and capes to wander through the convention floor looking for crime and photos ops. As an added bonus, Batman actor Adam West attended WonderCon this year and got to see all variations of the masked man he made so famous.

Watchmen:
Just in time for the March release of the Watchmen movie, fans dressed up as their favorite characters like Rorschach, Silk Spectre and Sally Jupiter. No Doctor Manhattans were spotted, but then again it takes dedication to show up to WonderCon blue and naked.

Yip Yip Martians:
If you grew up watching Sesame Street, you’ll recognize the interplanetary visitors called the Yip-Yips — nicknamed for their yip yip language. They seemed right at home yipping around WonderCon.

WonderCon 2009: Best Star Wars Costumes

Bonnie Burton | March 4, 2009

Even though San Francisco’s WonderCon is much smaller than the epic San Diego Comic-Con International, you literally can’t walk past a booth without bumping into a costumed fan.

Each year WonderCon gets a little bit bigger which means more and more fans dressed as superheroes, video game characters, horror film icons, steampunkers, vampires, dragons, pirates, manga and anime favorites, and of course, Star Wars characters.

As usual members of the 501st and Rebel Legion were out in full Force. Here’s a recap of some of the best Star Wars costumes we spotted at WonderCon 2009.

What a Trooper!
It just isn’t a convention without spotting 501st Legion members dressed as clone troopers and stormtroopers. The 501st always impress with their custom-made body armor, but it’s their patience with hundreds of people who want their photos taken with them every five steps that make them real troopers. If you want to learn more about the 501st Legion, check out: Inside the Fighting 501st.

Rebel, Rebel!
Next up, the Rebel Legion. These fans dress as Jedi, Rebel Pilots, Princess Leias and more. At this year’s WonderCon they could be seen hanging out with the 501st or I suppose infiltrating the Empire depending on how you look at it. If you’d like to find out more about them, visit the Official Rebel Legion site here.

Darth Vader
While The Clone Wars may be taking fandom my storm, Darth Vader still dominates all the photo ops at WonderCon. He’s not called a Sith Lord for nothing.

NYCC: Best Han in Carbonite Costume Ever

Bonnie Burton | February 10, 2009

If you were lucky enough to be at the Big Apple for New York Comic-Con last week, you might have posed for a few photo ops with Chewbacca, Darth Vader, Boba Fett, members of the 501st Legion and Rebel Legion and the lovely ladies dressed as Slave Leia.

However, often times it’s the hilarious fan-made costumes that make us happy to be spreading the word of the Force. This low-rent version of Han Solo in Carbonite made us short blue milk out our noses from laughing so hard. Most impressive indeed.

Stormtrooping Akihabara

Bonnie Burton | December 4, 2008

Tokyo Trooper Danny Choo not only dances in the streets wearing his gear, he’s also one heck of a tour guide. Web icon Joi Ito and Ellen Levy from Silicon Valley Connect hang out with Choo as he escorts them around the geektastic section of Tokyo called Akihabara. They visit electronics stores, meet maids and hang out at karaoke clubs.

Joi Ito says:

As part of the “cultural program” we decided to take a tour of Akihabara, the mecca of all things otaku, anime and electronic in Japan. I asked a very special friend, Danny Choo, son of the famous shoe designer Jimmy Choo, to lead the tour. I call Danny “The Prince of Akihabara”. He is one of the world’s experts on Japan’s otaku culture and has one of the most popular English language websites about Japan. One of his favorite things is to dress up as a stormtrooper and spread his love and happiness in Akihabara.
