Daniel Logan Reports in from Jedi-Con

Daniel Logan, known to countless Star Wars fans as Boba Fett, is in Germany right now for Jedi-Con, an official Star Wars Fan Club event. He’s graciously agreed to be our eyes and ears on the convention floor and chimes in with this report:

Hello Everyone!

This is Daniel Logan giving you report from Dusseldorf Germany on Jedi Con 2008. I arrived into the Dusseldorf Airport last night. I had a long flight from Los Angeles and connected through London’s Heathrow Airport. This is my first visit to Germany! When I arrived into Dusseldorf I was glad to see the hotel was literally just outside the airport. I was able to check into the new Maritim Hotel, also where the convention is being held. It is a very nice hotel and the convention area is very nice as well.

ShoWest: Star Wars: The Clone Wars

Our Starwars.com ShoWest coverage of the Warner Bros. “Big Picture” presentation ended on an exciting note as filmmaker George Lucas took to the stage escorted by six Clone troopers from the 501st Legion.

Before airing a clip from Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Lucas addressed the audience comprised of motion picture distributors and marketers, fellow directors, producers and actors about his decision to make another feature and TV series that takes place between Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith.

ShoWest: Get Smart

Our Starwars.com ShoWest coverage of the Warner Bros. “Big Picture” presentation continues with a funny introduction of the upcoming Get Smart comedy, directed by Peter Segal. In the film Steve Carell plays Maxwell Smart, AKA Agent 86 for CONTROL, who battles the forces of KAOS with the more-competent Agent 99 played by Anne Hathaway at his side. The stellar cast also includes Masi Oka, Dwayne “Don’t Call Him The Rock” Johnson, Alan Arkin, Bill Murray and Terence Stamp.

Director Peter Segal and actors Steve Carell and Anne Hathaway introduced a short clip of the film in which Maxwell Smart manages to be mistaken for a terrorist on a plane while on a mission, only to misuse a rather cool gadget in order to escape. Not to give too much away, but the segment serves as a rather hilarious PSA on why you shouldn’t try new James Bond-esque weapons in a tiny airplane bathroom.

ShoWest: The Clone Wars, Indy and More!

Arriving in Las Vegas is always a surreal experience, especially during the day. So as I walked through the Paris Hotel checking out all the posters and displays for upcoming films at the ShoWest movie trade convention, I felt a glowing sense of pride when I spotted style guide art for The Clone Wars display and the poster for Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

It’s a bit humorous to see where the posters are placed next to each other. As precise marketing folks can be about which movies they want to release their trailers before, it’s funny to see which movie posters are placed next to each other. For example, there’s something comforting knowing that Jedi Knights probably could help Harold & Kumar in their escape from Guantanamo Bay, or that the ladies of Sex and the City would be more than happy to show Indiana Jones a thing or two about running from the bad guys in high heels meant for the catwalk.

Lightsabre UK Interviews Mary Franklin

Our pals at Lightsabre UK have profiled Lucasfilm’s very own Events Manager Goddess and Editor of Bantha Tracks Mary Franklin. If you’ve ever attended Celebration, Comic-Con, E3, Celebration Europe, DragonCon, WonderCon and any other con you’ve probably seen Mary in a blur of activity. Her love of the fans is equal to her love of Bossk — and that’s saying plenty!

Here’s an excerpt from her interview:

Which of the myriad Star Wars characters do you feel the most affinity for?
Bossk. I love Bossk. Most of the bounty hunters try to be subtle and cool and aloof, but Bossk doesn’t bother with that. He just looks like he’d rather rip your throat out now than be coy. I also love the character of Han Solo. Conflicted heroes, like Solo, and Aragorn in the LOTR movies, are the ones I find most compelling.

Don’t know the Gorn?

Any “Star Trek” fan who watched the “Arena” episode that aired Jan. 19, 1967, knows the Gorn and that he nearly killed Capt. Kirk on an uninhabited asteroid. So when Gorn actor Bobby Clark arrived to sign autographs at the Salute to Star Trek/Battlestar Galactica & Star Wars Convention in Sacramento, Calif, he was ready with a pen and answers for questions asked by his legions of fans.

From the Sacramento Bee:

No one appeared to be wearing a Gorn costume, but for $20 bucks a pop, the man who donned that green rubber reptilian get-up 40 years ago autographed photos and shared stories of the fateful episode. He told a man wearing a “Kirk-Spock ‘08″ T-shirt how hot it was inside that rubber costume. He described the difficulty of running around in those monster feet.

“You’re an icon, you know that? He’s such an iconic image from the original ‘Star Trek,’ ” a young man exclaimed, as he selected a picture for the Gorn to autograph. The now-beaming Gorn penned his signature in silver: “To David” and from “The Gorn Captain.”
