501st Legion Charity Quilt Project

Bonnie Burton | July 24, 2008

For the past year devouted Star Wars fan and craftster Terri Fontana-Hodges has been collecting patches from Garrisons, Detachments and Squads of the 501st Legion from all over the world. The purpose, to create a unique quilt to help raise money for the Make A Wish foundation.

The quilt features 91 different patches from all over the globe,
including some of the rarest patches created. A few that should be
pointed out:

The Rose Bowl Parade patch
The Celebration IV patch
The Japanese garrison
The Israeli Garrison
Saudi Arabia Garrison
Holmes Trooper patch
The Patch Girl patch
(made in limited quantities by the Golden Gate Garrison for raising funds and patches for the project)
as well as a number of special events and Memorial patches.

These patches are not offered to the general public and many are hard or near impossible to get by even members of the Legion.

The Quilt will be on display at the 501st legion booth during San Diego Comic-Con July 24-27 and the auction ends on the evening of July 26. ALL proceeds go to The Make A Wish Foundation.

Bonnie Burton | February 20, 2008

Check out these uber-cool Steampunk Star Wars Sketch Cards
from one of our favorite artists — Cynthia Cummens.

The sketch cards were created for a special Sketch Card Gallery Exhibit on March 8, 2008, sponsored for Blue Line for the Comics2Games store in Florence, Kentucky. After the show, the cards will be auctioned on eBay with proceeds donated to the American Cancer Society. The show is open to all artists.

Artists interested in participating should email Jeremy Bell here for more info about the event.

Swing Trooper Swing!

Bonnie Burton | July 18, 2007

On July 14, the West Michigan Whitecaps (Detroit Tigers Class A affiliate) wore Lucasfilm-approved Star Wars baseball jerseys at their home game against the Beloit Snappers in Comstock Park, Michigan.

501st.com reports:

The jerseys were designed by 501st member Scott “Crow” Withers (TK-1491) and 10 game-worn jerseys were auctioned for one of our favorite charities, the Make-A-Wish Foundation. The 501st Midwest Garrison and Rebel Legion Midwest Base had 34 costumers at the game. Highlights include Vader throwing out the first pitch, 501st member Brien Skinner (TC-8595) playing the National Anthem on guitar in full Clone Trooper armor, photos for charity donation, and costumers participating in games in between innings. After the game, there was a fireworks display and fans watched A New Hope on the giant scoreboard!
