The MVPs of Celebration

Mary Franklin | April 4, 2013

There’s a sort of superhero vibe that surrounds my Elite Squad at the Star Wars Celebrations. You know how it happens in the movies when all hell breaks loose, and it looks like there is no hope for the good citizens. Suddenly Batman shows up, and you know that everything is going to be all right. The Elite squad is like Batman — or more appropriately, like Obi-Wan Kenobi. They are so capable and calm that once I have put a stage or area of the show in their hands, I turn my mind to other parts of the show.

It doesn’t occur to me to worry about the Elite Squad’s responsibilities once they have their marching orders. I know they will figure it out, whatever comes up. I can be free to turn my attention to disappearing marching bands and hanging Death Stars and queues that wrap around the building full of fans who are getting covered with snow.

Who are these Elite?

Star Wars Celebration IV: The Entertainment Capital of the Star Wars World

Mary Franklin | March 19, 2013

One million square feet saturated in Star Wars. Six days of events, including a six-movie marathon of the entire Star Wars big-screen saga. Seven live stages. Celebrity guests from the movies, television, and animation. Live Star Wars laser tag featuring Stormtroopers to target. Three hundred members of the media. More than 35,000 individual revelers. If Celebration III was billed as the party of a lifetime, Celebration IV might have been the party to make fans forget all other parties.

Meet Daniel Fritzel: The Celebration Europe Attendee With The Fastest Clicking-Finger On The Planet

Star Wars Celebration Team | February 15, 2013
swce-notdaniel_edited-1

Not Daniel, but one of the many colorful interpretations of his favorite character at Celebration VI.

Since going on sale January 17, Star Wars Celebration Europe tickets have been selling like pfannkuchen, and, today, we’d like to shine a spotlight on one very special fan.

Our first-day ticket numbers were awesome, our first-hour ticket numbers were astounding, our first-minute ticket numbers were downright nutty, and Daniel Fritzel — purchasing his ticket mere seconds after Celebration Europe tickets went live — was the very first fan to claim his pass to the biggest Star Wars party Europe has ever seen, and we caught up with Daniel to find out a little more about him…

Celebration Europe… 2007

It’s hard for me to believe that the first Star Wars Celebration Europe was almost six years ago. Maybe that disbelief is simply a product of how long I’ve worked on Celebrations – I sure as Sith won’t admit it’s a product of my age – but it is incredible to think that it’s been so long since we produced the show for the very first time outside of the U.S.

That show was not only the first Celebration outside North America, but also a first for some other notable memories.

Tilt-shift Star Wars

Bonnie Burton | January 22, 2009

(501st group shot from Celebration IV — original photo here.)

When we first read about TiltShiftMaker.com on BoingBoing.net we were so impressed with how easy it was to turn any photo of a real-life scene into what appears to be a toy diorama. Living, breathing 501st members look like custom action figures, the Lucasfilm campus looks like a model, and crowds at conventions like Celebration IV and Celebration Europe look like intricate dioramas.

Check out some of the photos we’ve made so far:
