Brain cupcakes. Chocolate eyeballs. Worms in dirt. These are the types of desserts I look forward to eating every Halloween. For this year’s festivities, I wanted to create a treat that puts a Star Wars twist on those traditional spooky desserts. In my opinion, nothing says scary like The Great Pit of Carkoon and the deadly Sarlacc that inhabits it. Being digested over the course of a thousand years is what nightmares are made of!

For members of the 501st, Day Two of Celebration VI was packed from start to finish with panels, performances and some genuine playtime. NO finer group of comrades could a Star Wars fan want, NO finer group of friends could a Star Wars fan have!

Remember that awesome dad who photoshopped Ewoks into his family vacation photos so his kids could believe Ewoks were real? Now he’s responsible for giving his daughter an adorkable birthday cake mixing the two things she loves most: Star Wars and Disney princesses!
If there was a Nobel Peace Prize for being an awesome dad, Anthony Herrera would get our vote!

My daughter really enjoys Star Wars. Like many other little five year old girls my daughter also likes Disney Princesses. As parents my wife and I like to encourage both. So when it came to planning a birthday we opted to try a little combination. Why not? Nothing says that a Disney Princess can’t get along with a Jedi or a princess from a galaxy far, far away.
In steps our friend Trisha Patterson, a creative superstar when it comes to making cakes. We asked her to make our daughter a cake knowing what interests her most. This is what she came up with. Nothing beats the look of a little girls face when she sees two things she loves to put together on a cake made just for her.

I don’t know how we missed blogging this awesome cake from last November, but here it is in all its Death Star glory. The attention to detail is most impressive!
The cake was made by Cakeadelic — a home-based cake making business in Berkshire, UK that specializes in wedding cakes & cupcakes. Cake Designer Fiona, created the first Death Star for her 4 year old son, and since displaying it on her website says that its more often 40-year-olds who ask for it!

Check out this awesome Force-tastic Star Wars Christmas cake made by Tara from Cloud Nine Confections in North Vancouver, BC.
My favorite thing about this cake is Yoda. In Star Wars, Yoda is always shown as being very old. I love the image of Yoda as a kid, standing by his Christmas Tree, waiting impatiently for Santa Claus. I almost feel sorry for Santa! He better give Yoda everything he asked for or Yoda has a present (aka his lightsaber) ready for Santa.

So, I learned something new this week. We were asked to make some Clone Wars cupcakes and really, this is what I knew about Star Wars beforehand:
There is a dark side and a not so dark side.
Having the force be with you is a good thing.
I knew that Luke’s father is Darth Vader, psht! Come on!
Yoda kicks ass and is a wise green little fellow.
I like saying the word Padawan. Padawan! Padawan!
Stormtroopers are bad!
Lightsabers look cool.
All of this happens in a galaxy far, far away.
*Smiles*You can tell I pay a lot of attention when Howard talks about Star Wars. Which he tried to explain to me all over again when I was doing the dishes (I’m trapped!). Well, luckily he does know a thing or two about Star Wars and was a tremendous help on making these Clone Wars cupcakes with me.
