Virtual Twitter Podrace Recap

To celebrate the upcoming release of The Phantom Menace in 3D (out in theaters Feb. 10, 2012), we asked some of our favorite Star Wars fan groups, celebs and Clone Wars actors to rev their engines for our first ever Virtual Podrace on Twitter!

On Jan. 14, 2012, fans gathered together to watch and have fun participating in our virtual podrace. While some tweeted at their favorite racers, other fans went a step further and joined the virtual pit droid crew!

The Podracers included:
Cyborgturkey AKA Robot Chicken, TheForce.net, Darth Vader, Ben Quadinaros, Deathstar PR, 501st Legion, Fanboys director Kyle Newman, Boba Fett actor Daniel Logan, The Clone Wars actor James Arnold Taylor, and Team Unicorn members: Clare Grant, Michele Boyd, and Milynn Sarley. Plus special guest sniper, bounty hunter Aurra Sing voice actor from The Clone Wars — Jaime King!

Podracers tweeted as themselves, or as the characters they play in The Clone Wars. The @StarWars Twitter served as the commentator who called out play by play action by rolling dice to determine who went forward, who had engine problems, who got shot at by a bounty hunter, who sped ahead and who got sideswiped.

As the @StarWars Twitter tweeted play by play actions, the Podracers tweeted what was happening to them and the racers around them.

Everyone used the hashtag #Podrace at the end of their tweets so the Podrace could be followed by fans on Twitter who wanted to see the action.

There were a lot of explosions on the racetrack, surprise sniping from none other than Jaime King as Aurra Sing, a surprising romance with Darth Vader and plenty of hilarious comments from the racers!

And in the end, none other than The 501st Legion won the Podrace!

Our Virtual race was so popular that we even got the hashtag #Podrace to trend on Twitter! Yay us!

Underdogs fighting evil against all odds! Heroes overcoming adversity to save the day! Sound familiar? The hero’s journey isn’t just part of Star Wars, it’s part of American history thanks to George Lucas’ new WWII film about the Tuskegee Airmen — Red Tails!

Red Tails comes out in theaters on January 20, but StarWars.com attended the Red Tails NYC premiere with cast, crew and special guests including executive producer George Lucas.

Red Tails actors Terrence Howard, Nate Parker, Tristan Wilds, Elijah Kelley, Leslie Odom Jr., Method Man, Lee Tergesen, Cuba Gooding Jr., David Oyelowo, Ne-Yo, Marcus T. Paulk, Michael B. Jordan, Andre Royo, Kevin Phillips came to the premiere, as well as executive producer George Lucas, producer Rick McCallum, producer Charles Floyd Johnson, director Anthony Hemingway, film composer Terence Blanchard, and screenwriters Aaron McGruder and John Ridley.

Special guests James Earl Jones, Spike Lee, Francis Ford Coppola, Kimberly Locke, Al Roker, and more attended to show their support for Red Tails..

Here’s a glimpse of our Red Tails red carpet premiere with George Lucas, Cuba Gooding Jr., Terence Howard, and the cast, as well as the heroic Tuskegee Airmen!

Star Wars: Essential Reader’s Companion Cover Reveal

Random House shares the cover of Star Wars: The Essential Reader’s Companion today, a new guide written by Lucasfilm’s Pablo Hidalgo coming to bookstores later this year! The cover artwork was designed by Scott Biel and painted by Paul Youll (can you spot the various Star Wars books in the illustration?). Here’s the description from Random House:

Star Wars: The Essential Reader’s Companion is the first Essential Guide devoted entirely to published Star Wars fiction, from the original movie novelization, to young reader’s books, short stories, eBook novellas, and the most recent adult novels. This week, StarWars.com launched a special Episode I 3D hub page giving fans a one-stop destination for all the latest news and activities surrounding Star Wars: Episode I 3D’s release next month! Lost Tribe of the Sith Cover Reveals

Today Random House reveals two covers from its Lost Tribe of the Sith series: Secrets, which is the eighth and final episode in the epic Lost Tribe of Sith free eBook series, and Lost Tribe of the Sith: The Collected Stories, which will come out in paperback on July 31. Here are the synopses from the publisher:
