Just as Chewbacca showed his bravery throughout the Star Wars, a pet pug with the same name saved his family from a dangerous fire this holiday season.
The fire started in the basement at about 8 a.m. Christmas morning and thanks to Chewbacca, a 10-week old Pug everyone was able to get out of the house unharmed.

Director Jim Fourniadis who also happens to be the Creative Director of the Dark Room Theater and adoptive father to Maggie “the cute French Bulldog, our mascot, who is still mad at me for making her wear a little Princess Leia costume on opening night.”

(Who do you trust more to bring sexy back?)
The droids and celebs come out for a night to celebrate Samuel L. Jackson receiving the 2008 American Cinematheque Award. Artoo, accompanied by his counterpart, translator, and traveling companion C-3PO, was nice enough to send along a few snapshots of his star-studded night to Starwars.com. The ceremony airs on AMC December 9th with special appearances by the maker himself, George Lucas.

Looks like a lightsaber is now more than just “an elegant weapon for a more civilized time.” Professor Kishan Dholakia and Dr. Frank Gunn-Moore from the University of St. Andrews in Scotland have recently developed a “lightsaber-like” tool which can be used to fight cancer cells in the body.
The device — which is only a couple of millimetres square — fires a laser beam so accurately that it can puncture a hole in an individual cell, allowing drugs to enter and do their work much more effectively.
Dr Gunn-Moore says, “You could think of these as tiny lightsabres like they had in Star Wars inside your body. We can use lasers to punch tiny holes exactly where we want them. We can produce a rod of light — sometimes described as a sword — that can even go around objects. It really does sound like science fiction.”

Green women have a habit of popping up as characters in some of the most beloved sci-fi franchises including Star Wars, Star Trek, Flash Gordon, and Lost in Space, among others. io9.com takes a look at their favorite jade-hued ladies of sci-fi. We couldn’t be prouder of Oola.
Oola (Star Wars): Unlike the Orion women, Oola is a bona fide slave, a Twi’lek tragically tricked into becoming a dancer for Jabba the Hutt. There, she was starved, forced to service Jabba, and beaten for any disobedience. Just before she believed she would be rescued by Luke Skywalker, Oola performed one final dance for her master, but when Jabba pulled on the chain around her neck, beckoning him to her, she defied him, pulling back until Jabba tugged her over a trapdoor and dropped her into the chamber of his hungry rancor.

Rivers of uber-serious fanboy tears were undoubtedly shed, but for those capable of relaxing and enjoying the entire superburrito that is Star Wars had a tasty meal of content to savor this week on StarWars.com, with an extra heaping helping of cheese. As an aside, this spellchecker I’m using takes issue with topsy-turvy, but gives superburrito a pass. Huh.

A good week for those with HD TVs — The Clone Wars animated feature arrives on Blu-Ray, the first Star Wars movie to do so. Meanwhile, on television, The Clone Wars continues with another solid installment, especially those with an unabashed R2-D2 hero worship thing going on, and Seth, Matt and the folks at Stoopid Monkey / Adult Swim bring Star Wars back to Robot Chicken. One of my favorite newsstand mags to browse is Popular Science, leading the way for some of the better and more fascinating subjects you can read and digest in a short period of time. Every year they name their favorite new things we can spend our paychecks on – and the list is, quite often, a geeks dream.
This year is no different, with things from OLED Televisions to sub-woofers for your seat gracing the pages. A personal pick is the new Onkyo Receiver. The ability to adjust color and brightness before the video signal hits your television is any videophiles fantasy.
Not to be left out, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, thanks to the brilliant physics and AI engine within (DMM and Euphoria respectively), made this year’s list. As the award exclaims, videogame players finally get a tactile sensation they are effecting physical objects, and actually hurting Stormtroopers. We’re flattered for the award, and our thanks goes out to PopSci.
