Lucas, Filoni and Others Sign Clone Wars Poster for Charity

January 26, 2012

Clone Wars Supervising Director Dave Filoni

In an effort to support the Aids and Breast Cancer Emergency Fund of San Francisco, Lucasfilm Animation has just posted a 3-day auction at eBay for a rare Clone Wars artwork poster by Dave Filoni, supervising director of The Clone Wars. In addition to the striking artwork, what makes this poster exceptionally cool are the signatures that grace it — here’s the auction description:

This is an extremely rare poster that was only made available to select pass-holders at Star Wars Celebration V (2010). The artwork was done by Dave Filoni, Supervising Director of the hit series Star Wars: The Clone Wars and features fan-favorite characters – Cad Bane and Boba Fett.

The poster includes original signatures from George Lucas, Dave Filoni, Daniel Logan (“Boba Fett” in Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones and Star Wars: The Clone Wars) and Corey Burton (“Cad Bane,” “Count Dooku,” and “Ziro the Hutt” in Star Wars: The Clone Wars).

Opportunities to pick up any officially-sanctioned, multiple-signature posters from Lucasfilm don’t come up too often, and this one’s window will be closing in less than 3 days — head on over now and place your bid!

Lucas Company Menu Celebrates Raiders 30th

June 17, 2011

Today, Lucasfilm’s Presidio headquarters celebrated that other film series set a long time ago (in a country far, far away) — Raiders of the Lost Ark! The menu, which usually offers grill, deli, vegetarian, and other delectable items, was themed-out Indy-style today, complete with a rather enticing display of bad dates. And the Indy goodness doesn’t end there — the day will be topped off with an after-hours Indy-themed banquet as well as an exclusive screening of Raiders of the Lost Ark in the on-site company theater!

Tron’s “Rinzler” Has Lucasfilm Connection

December 17, 2010

With Tron: Legacy opening wide today, we thought we’d share a little-known Lucasfilm connection to one of the film’s characters recently revealed by director Joseph Kosinski in a visit to LFL’s Presidio headquarters. Rinzler, a character introduced early on as one of the film’s chief villains, was apparently named after Lucasfilm Executive Editor J.W. Rinzler, author of several books including The Making of Star Wars, The Complete Making of Indiana Jones, and the recent Making of The Empire Strikes Back, among others.

“Friends told me about the fact that there’s this character Rinzler in the new Tron movie,” says Rinzler. “So I went online to see if I could figure out where they got the name. But I couldn’t find anything. There aren’t many Rinzlers in the States and it’s not a name that means anything, as far as I know… Then when Joe Kosinski came as a guest speaker I was actually on my way to the event before I realized this might be a chance to ask him. So I waited till after the q-and-a, went down to the front, and said I had a strange question but had to ask where he got the name, or where the writers got the name. And he said that he was sitting with the two writers working, and there was a book on the table ‘a Making of’ he said… ‘Oh yeah, it was Making of Star Wars by someone named Rinzler.’ So I said ‘that’s me’, thanked him, shook his hand and said I had to go out and buy a few action figures — needless to say, my kids are thrilled.”

Clone Wars Screening Recap: San Francisco

Last week fans flocked to digital theaters for a very exclusive screening on the big screen of an all-new Clone Wars villain –- the monstrous Savage Opress!

The Clone Wars screenings began in Los Angeles at the Egyptian Theatre with the voice actors, director Dave Filoni and writer Katie Lucas in attendance, along with celeb Clone Wars fans.

Screenings continued in Seattle, NYC, Philly, Dallas, Chicago, Boston, Phoenix, Atlanta, Washington D.C. and San Francisco, among others.

Cast, crew and fans alike came out in full Force at Lucasfilm’s Presidio headquarters in the San Francisco to watch this epic screening of The Clone Wars introducing Savage Opress.

StarWars.com was there to report and live tweet the event. Check out the article below for quotes from Clone Wars actor Daniel Logan, CG/FX/Lighting Supervisor Joel Aron, and more!

Joel Aron has some fun with the 501st.

Why is this story arc amazing to see on a big screen?

Joel Aron: We work on it cinematically. When you’re watching it on television you’re actually seeing just a crop of what we’re doing. Every little inch of the screen we think about — the lighting, the composition, the balance, the shapes, etc. To see it on a big screen you actually feel the cinematic pulse of the show. It’s very different when you watch it at home.

Supervising Director Dave Filoni, voice actor/sound editor Matthew Wood, and CG/FX/Lighting Supervisor Joel Aron.

Why do you think fans will get a kick out of this story arc in particular?

Joel Aron: We’re introducing a character that hasn’t been seen on the show before, and it’s a direct tie to the feature films. When that happens people automatically start to associate. There’s something connecting us to Star Wars here. And you’re seeing a long thread. In the past on the show, we’ve had just little segments, but now we’re getting an entire story arc. We have three episodes that are so seamless, you don’t even realize they’re separate episodes.

Why is it important for you to watch something like this with the fans?

Joel Aron: You get to hear what they really like, and what they react to. What Dave [Filoni] and I both do is we listen to what everybody tells us and we put it back into the show. Everything that happened at Celebration V — all the conversations — the fans really drive us to do more.

Lucasfilm Chimes in on Ackbar Mascot

February 26, 2010

Earlier in the week we blogged about University of Mississippi hoping to replace their old school mascot with none other than Admiral Ackbar, and now finally we’ve given an official statement about our beloved Mon Calamari as a possible mascot.

New York Times reports:

While a student committee to propose a new mascot is still in the early stages of formation, Lucasfilm, which produced the Star Wars movies, has given a (tongue-in-cheek) endorsement to Ackbar’s candidacy. In a statement, the studio said:

Lucasfilm is flattered that our Star Wars fans at the University of Mississippi are considering electing Admiral Ackbar as their mascot. The last time we checked in with Admiral Ackbar he was leading the Rebel Alliance Fleet on a critical mission so it will be difficult for him to show up for the games!

Fan Recap of a Special Lucasfilm Screening

January 27, 2010

This week at the Lucasfilm campus in San Francisco, we gave local fan groups such as The 501st Legion, Rebel Legion and Star Wars Fan Force, and other fans a chance to come see the next episode of The Clone Wars on the big screen, and hear a special Q&A from supervising director Dave Filoni.

While the fans were asked not to talk about the episode details, they could still tweet and blog about the experience as a whole. One of these awesome fans shot a video of his experience.

Here’s a quick recap of my experience at “The Mandalore Plot” Exclusive Screening and Q & A w/Supervising Director, Dave Filoni which was held at the Letterman Digital Arts Center (LDAC) at the Presidio campus in San Francisco, California on Monday, Jan. 25, 2010!

SW Auction to Aid Aussie Bush Fire Victims

April 14, 2009

victorian-bushfires.jpg

Star Wars fans in Australia have banded together to help victims of recent bush fires that ravaged the state of Victoria, posting several eBay auctions of items donated by actors from the saga, Lucasfilm, and others.

From the Victorian Bushfire Appeal 2009 website:

On February 7th 2009, the state of Victoria in Australia was ravaged by Bushfires.

These wildfires destroyed thousands upon thousands of hectares of native forests and laid waste to many townships.

Over 2000 homes were destroyed and over 7000 people were left homeless by these fires which burned out of control for many weeks. Over 200 people were reported to have lost their lives in what was to become known as Australia’s worst natural disaster.

The people of Australia however were not beaten by these events and they rallied together as one to help those in need. Countless donations of clothes and food flooded into relief centers and thousands of volunteers lined up to help. People donated their time, their homes and opened their hearts to help those effected by the fires.

Head over to the charity’s official website for more details, and also don’t miss the over two-dozen signed items currently up for bids from Dave Prowse, Kenny Baker, Jeremy Bulloch, Bonnie Piesse, and others!

Yelp Reviews: Yoda Fountain at Lucasfilm

February 25, 2009

(Members of Kasabian pose in front of the Yoda statue at LFL.)

Even though Skywalker Ranch is off-limits, fanboys (and fangirls) everywhere can still stop by and pay homage to George Lucas in front of the Yoda fountain at Lucasfilm’s Presidio campus in San Francisco.

So many fans make the pilgrimage to Lucasfilm to see the Yoda fountain that they are now reviewing their experiences on Yelp.com.

Here’s a few of our favorites:

Jennie T. – San Jose, CA:
It’s Yoda. He’s 900 years old and still adorable. As a woman (who already is scared of old age, biological ticking, and so forth), of course I adore it. And the scenery around Yoda is not too shabby either.

Greg G. – Alameda, CA:
Like everyone else, i had a little trouble finding Yoda at first. However, i think this is because the fountain is so small that you walk right past it. When they say this is a life size replica… they mean it.

Harry C. – San Francisco, CA:
Never knew a statue to look so wise, yet so cute and adorable. My friend noticed that others had tossed coins into the fountain and she gave me a couple, so like others before me, I made a couple wishes and tossed some coins, just like I recently did at the Palazzo in Vegas. The Yoda fountain is very well done…for me, it was definitely worth the trip to find him. There was a certain calmness, a peaceful serenity standing there in front of him. I don’t know who the artist was, but they totally captured the essence of Yoda perfectly.
