Cloning Stormtroopers at LEGO Factory

June 19, 2008

There’s more than one way to build a clone army! The lucky kids at Gizmodo blog take a tour of the LEGO factory in Denmark.

Check out this video about how the iconic mini-figure gets its characteristic evil look after getting out of the mold machine. The printing of these mini-figs is one of the most expensive and delicate processes at the Lego factory. The rubber stamping has to be done in a very precise way - printing feature by feature in layers - until it’s done.

LEGO Death Star Dream House

June 18, 2008

I love LEGOs and I think minifigs are about the cutest things since puppies, only plastic. The Death Star is pure genius — a sphere of power that can blow up planets!? Heck yeah! The only thing that would make this even better is to combine all three into a one glorious playset where you make the magic happen!

Behold the LEGO Death Star with 21 minifigures!

It’s just like the Barbie Dream House only eviler and not pink! Reenact your favorite Star Wars scenes of Luke and Darth dueling or Luke and his sis swinging to escape stormtroopers. Or skip canon altogether and make your own Star Wars stories.

Make a tiny Twister mat and have C-3PO challenge Chewie to the ultimate game of wits and limbs! Or buy those little dollhouse tea sets and have a civilized meeting between Princess Leia and Darth Vader. Or throw a dance party with the driods vs. the humans. Two words: Stormtrooper Limbo! Yup, first thing I’m doing is redecorating my Death Star with little couches and a Starburst wall clock!

Report from Toy Fair Day 2:

Tuesday was a busy, busy day for me so let’s get right into this so I’m not up all night writing (starting this after midnight was probably a bad idea in the first place).

An artist outside Toy Fair gets into the spirit

Today I spent all of my time in the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, the main showroom of Toy Fair. It was a pretty huge place filled with vendors in every facet of kids entertainment, from basic blocks and action figures to serious collectables to jungle gyms to “La Teenaz: the Latinas with a feel for keeping it real” (seriously). Obviously my mission was to focus on Star Wars and Indiana Jones products and I had an appointment or two every hour to help me accomplish this.
