Graffiti artist and toy designer KAWS talks with CBS News about his work and influences, Smurfs and Star Wars being a couple of them.

KAWS became a street legend in the ’90s by drawing over bus stop ads, establishing his signature mark — placing x’s over character’s eyes. Last fall, thousands of fans lined the streets of Tokyo outside KAWS’ shop in hopes of buying a Star Wars stormtrooper he designed with Lucasfilm. Most went home empty-handed.

We already knew the Force was strong with Heroes star Milo Ventimiglia, but when we spotted photos of him in his personally-designed Yoda T-shirt and hanging out with Chewbacca at the GenArt Beverly Hills screening of Fanboys, that just drove the point home even further. Now if we could just get Milo suited up in stormtrooper armor, we’d be set! (I’m looking at you, 501st Legion! Hint Hint!)

Fanboys Fess Up

StarWars.com Team | February 4, 2009

Teenhollywood.com talks to Fanboys actors Dan Fogler, Sam Huntington and Chris Marquette about their own Star Wars obsessions, working with Lando and Princess Leia, their feelings about The Phantom Menace, shooting at Skywalker Ranch, and more.

Out of all of the actors that do cameos in the movie, who was the one you were most excited about and enjoyed working with, Dan?
Dan: Billy Dee Williams was really cool, he was so cool, and I was just being like, ‘I was Lando Calrissian on my block when I was a child.’ And of course seeing Carrie Fisher, Princess Leia, who has this Hollywood history, and then seeing her on set joking around with us as a normal human being was amazing. That was the coolest part was to see that these legends are just people.

If you were speaking to a true Star Wars fan, why should they go see this movie?
Dan: I think, from the beginning to end, they will find numerous things that will warm their hearts. It’s so nostalgic, it pays homage to not just Star Wars but I guess all the movies that I watched growing up, and I also think they’ll identify with a lot of the characters and they’ll see themselves in it. There isn’t a movie out there that is for them, that reveres them.

Bonnie Burton | January 26, 2009

On this week’s episode “Lisa the Drama Queen” of The Simpsons, we learn that not only does Lisa have a flair for writing fantasy fiction, but that Nelson plays with a headliess Darth Vader action figure!

Scene from the episode:

Nelson: “Girls are so lame. Isn’t that right headless Darth Vader? What’s that? You miss your girlfriend armless Malibu Stacy wrapped in hockey tape?” (then makes action figures kiss)

Star Wars Yoga

Bonnie Burton | January 20, 2009

Skip the Downward Dog and work on some Force-inspired poses with Star Wars Yoga. Check out this blog featuring letters from a made-up character named Steve Jones. While the letters between Steve Jones and George Lucas are pure fiction, the yoga poses actually look like they could work to improve the flexibility for anyone who could use a good stretch at the next Comic-Con.

Galactic Senate on 30 Rock

StarWars.com Team | January 9, 2009

If you caught this week’s episode “Senor Macho Solo” in Season 3 of 30 Rock, then you may have noticed some awesome flirting saturated with Star Wars references between Liz Lemon (played by Tina Fey) and a possible love interest Stuart played by actor Peter Dinklage.

Stuart: It’s my fault for wanting to hear all about your job, it’s just so much more interesting than the UN.

Liz Lemon: Oh come on, really? You have all those different languages and the costumes and that big meeting room; it must be like working in the Galactic Senate in Star Wars.

Stuart: They are similar. We are also very concerned about the growing influence of the Sith lords.
