Why X-wings don’t have cup holders

November 4, 2009

There’s a reason why you shouldn’t eat while flying an X-wing into battle, and this is it. Check out this fan-made tribute video honoring everyone’s favorite ill-fated Rebel pilot, Jek Porkins.

This is an instructional video on what not to while driving a starfighter capable of Mach 65. Ergo — don’t eat cheeseburgers at the wheel, people.

Maybe those folks who built that real X-wing in Plaster or wherever it was, could learn a lesson from the master of nose-dives!

Let’s Go “Skywalking”

November 3, 2009

Check out this awesome fan-made music video depicting a lovesick Luke Skywalker pining away for a certain sassy princess before he discovered they were actually siblings.

If Ackbar ran KTEL, this is the kind of record we’d be slow skating to on Hoth. Just sayin…

“If Only You’d Attached My Legs, I Wouldn’t Be In This Ridiculous Position”

October 22, 2009

Whatever points this Brooklyn Star Wars fans gets for out-of-the-box thinking might be offset by his tact. Also, this post has been removed from Craigslist, so we’re left to wonder if he was successful or not. Click on the image below to enlarge. (via Buzzfeed).

What Halloween Costumes Say About You

October 20, 2009

Before you decide to don that homemade sexy Ewok costume, or dress up as a Bacon Jedi (best of both worlds really), take a moment to think what kind of message you’re sending to friends, family, co-workers and strangers who see you walking across the street.

A.V. Club offers some insight on what your costume says about you.

Piling on enough costume and make-up to make yourself unrecognizable to your own parents, you’re free to act with social impunity. But as you’re strutting around wearing little more than underwear and angel wings, or rocking the look of a celebrity before the ink on his or her death certificate is even dry, remember that dressing up and acting out might betray more about your personality than your day-to-day behavior does.

New parents out with baby
Having your first child can often be seen as an opportunity to start reliving your youth, plus it is likely the first time you have a companion small enough to effectively wear a Yoda costume.

What you think it says about you: “Halloween was a magical part of our childhoods and we couldn’t wait to share it with our son or daughter.”

What it actually says: “Even though we are both only 24 years old, we are both getting used to spending this otherwise fun holiday changing a tiny Chewbacca’s diapers.”

Phill Jupitus and Noel Fielding: U2 vs. R2-D2

October 16, 2009

As an added part of the BBC celeb music game show Nevermind the Buzzcocks, team leaders and comedians Phill Jupitus and Noel Fielding debate a music topic after every episode. This time it’s a debate pitting super-band U2’s The Edge versus super-astromech R2-D2!

“Into the Sarlaac pit with the pair of them!”

Peter Serafinowicz Mauls Buzzcocks

October 16, 2009

While fans know actor Ray Park as Darth Maul in The Phantom Menace they may not realize that British actor/comedian Peter Serafinowicz was the voice.

On a recent episode of the British celeb music game show Nevermind the Buzzcocks, Serafinowicz gave the audience a taste of what the iconic Star Wars baddie sounds like when he talks about revenge and cheese.

Found on Ebay: 1978 Star Wars Knock-offs

October 6, 2009

I have to admit, I have a weakness for early Star Wars knock-off items, as my sporadic posting of such pieces here will prove. It’s pretty rare to come across early examples of toys that were directly inspired by Star Wars but unsanctioned by Lucasfilm, and even more rare to come across toys I’ve never seen. Happily, in the rich universe of Star Wars collecting, you never know what you’re gonna find on the dark side of Yavin’s fourth moon.

What makes this set so interesting, aside from its obvious flirtation with infringement, is the accessories each figure comes packaged with. In addition to “Vader’s” space sword, gun, and shield, he gets an interchangeable mechanical arm. Ok, not a stretch. But how about the C-3PO knock-off — a “TV Camera” and “TV Walkie Talkie”? The quasi-Wookiee is also endowed with a mechanical arm and TV walkie talkie, along with a somewhat pointless “Space Pack”. Don’t even get me started on the space sword and pistol the astro-quack gets.

Jaime King Rocks an Empire Muggs Back Shirt

September 30, 2009

Actress Jaime King proudly displays her Star Wars fan cred by wearing an “Empire Muggs Back” t-shirt in a freshly posted Funny or Die video. You’ll recall she was one of dozens of contributing artists to the Empire Muggs Back charity auction project launched by StarWars.com earlier this summer. The video, “The Booby Scare,” is a PSA for Breast Cancer Awareness, but with a twist.

Before anyone starts shrieking that we “think about the children!” please note that the usual warnings apply when navigating to Funny or Die. Though, that said, this video is extremely mild in comparison to some of their other fare.  Anyway, here’s a direct link to the video.
