Jaime King Shows Off Her Clone Cred

January 14, 2009

While promoting her new horror film My Bloody Valentine 3-D, actress Jaime King is quick to point out to the press that she’s not only a real geek, but she’s a big Star Wars fan as well. Here’s an excerpt from a recent interview she gave FEAR.net.

I heard you are a Star Wars geek.
I am. I am actually doing the new Clone Wars animated series right now. I’m excited about that.

Which voice are you?
I can’t tell you yet, but I play a few voices. I harassed [Clone Wars director] Dave Filoni until he gave me a part. I sent him emails, and I followed him around Comic-Con saying “Hire me. Hire me. Hire me. Hire me.”

You have been to Skywalker Ranch, right?
Yes, I have. That was the best. I have gone a few times – every excuse I can find to go there, I use. And then I cry when I have to go. It’s utopia for me. The idea of being out in nature, then having all these guys there, doing what they do creatively… being in that environment…. I feel like George Lucas has created something so universal, that speaks everyone’s language, that transcends time and age. It’s something everyone can relate to. I just think George Lucas is awesome.

Wired Profiles Fanboys

March 25, 2008

Wired magazine takes an in-depth look at the movie Fanboys — which has had a bit of controversy lately from fans wanting the original cut (and not the Cancer-free plot) to be released in theaters.

The magazine chats with Fanboys screenwriter Ernie Cline, who’s proudly been a Star Wars fan since childhood. Cline reveals not only his love for the saga, but also his very personal reasons for making the original plot of Fanboys have a more deeper meaning than just geek boys on a quest to see The Phantom Menace before everyone else.

Kristen Bell: “I Love Nerds”

August 24, 2007

The former “Veronica Mars” actress Kristen Bell talks with Entertainment Weekly about her upcoming role in “Heroes,” Judd Apatow’s Forgetting Sarah Marshall and the Star Wars cinematic love letter Fanboys.

So tell us about Fanboys.
These Star Wars nerds drive cross-country to break into George Lucas’ ranch and steal a print of [The Phantom Menace] so that their friend with a terminal illness can see it before it comes out.

You sort of have fanboys of your own. Are you happy about that?
I’m really flattered. I love nerds. Comic-Con junkies are the tastemakers of tomorrow. Isn’t that funny? The tables have turned. They’re a fiercely intelligent audience, which makes filmmakers want to please them. But I’m looking for the fangirl to come out of her shell a little, to be more accepted.

All right, you’ve held out long enough: What’s up with “Heroes?”
I’m on a sugar high, to be totally honest. For me, starting a new project is kind of like switching high schools — that feeling of excitement and nerves. And because everyone is so nice and I know so many people involved, I feel like I’m switching high schools — but one that a lot of my friends have already transferred to.

Weinsteins Search for the Ultimate Star Wars Fan

Kristen Bell Hearts Star Wars

June 4, 2007

Fans who attended Celebration IV in Los Angeles last week got an exclusive glimpse at the upcoming Weinstein production of Fanboys, but what seemed to steal the show wasn’t the reel of fantastic movie moments, but the panel of actors, producers, the director Kyle Newman, and most notably actress Kristen Bell wearing a shirt every fan can appreciate. In fact, for each Fanboys panel she attended, Bell wore a different Star Wars-themed shirt.

The “Veronica Mars” actress stars in Fanboys as Zoe — a Girl-Friday character with a lot of sass, humor and common sense, as well as a complete understanding of why her best guy pals are obsessed with Star Wars enough to trek across country for a covert Episode I operation. In a recent issue of Geek Monthly magazine, Bell, who poses in the article with a lightsaber as well as a retro Han Solo action figure, explains that her role as the comic book store employee and Force-sensitive fanboy friend was a no-brainer.

“My body doesn’t want to do Star Trek, my body wants to do Star Wars,” Bell says in the article. “I chose the role in Fanboys because I thought it was an amazing script, I thought it was a fun movie and I thought what’s better than a love letter to Star Wars fans.”
