Hello! I’m James and I’m one half of the brains behind the Bounty Hunt at Star Wars Celebration VI. My friend Dan and I have been organizing photo scavenger hunts and puzzle races for several years now, and we’re bringing all our fiendish fun to Orlando. We think that the Bounty Hunt is great for Star Wars fans who want to do something fun, exciting, and active at CVI. This is our third time putting on a clue solving adventure at Star Wars Celebration, and we’ve got a few new tricks for this year.

If you are a fan of custom dioramas, you may know me already, for those not yet familiar, let me introduce myself… my name is Frank D’iorio, I am a native Montrealer who by day works as a freelance motion picture digital compositor and on weekends, builds Star Wars action figure dioramas. SWCVI: Star Wars Tattoos: A Celebration Retrospective

Shane Turgeon | August 4, 2012

Untitled-1

My first exposure to the addicting world of Star Wars tattoos came from the same likely source as many other people’s first exposure – Jon Bradley Snyder’s short but eye-opening article entitled “Skin Deep” in Star Wars Insider #26, published in the summer of 1995. I was young, too young to get tattoos of my own, but I was completely enthralled and I knew then and there that the first tattoos I would get HAD to be Star Wars related. Little did I know at the time just how integral a part of my life, and fandom as a whole, Star Wars tattoos would eventually become…

SWCVI: The As You Wish Helmet Project

Art Andrews | August 1, 2012

Star Wars: Celebration V was an amazing experience for me as it was my first Celebration.  I have attended dozens of conventions but none have compared to the magnitude of a gathering that is 100% STAR WARS!  Years ago, I had seen the Vader Project, online, and was very impressed by it, but hadn’t thought much of it since then.  Imagine my surprise to see that the 501st Legion had put together a similar project at Celebration V; the TK-Project, using Stormtrooper helmets instead of Darth Vader helmets, and all to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation!  My wife and I were so impressed; we bid on several, and ended up winning one of the helmets!

The Life Cycle of a Saga

Albin Johnson | August 1, 2012

swblog3-5

With Star Wars Celebration VI just weeks away, it got this fan to thinking. Star Wars turned thirty-five this year. The 501st Legion turns fifteen. I mention the Legion because you write what you know, and the Legion is a ‘child’ of Star Wars so it lends some interesting contrast. It’s been fun watching the Legion grow from nothing and it’s always fascinating to me watch Star Wars evolve during most of my life. As a forty-something with five daughters, one of them sixteen, it made me look at these two entities in a different light.

SWCVI: First Look at Attendee Badge Art

StarWars.com Team | August 1, 2012

CVI_Badges_Yoda

There are a lot of things that set Star Wars Celebration apart from the slew of other pop culture conventions out there — Stormtooper security guards, life-size TIE Fighters in the hall, droid races — but some are more subtle, like the badges that all attendees and staff wear. Unlike most cons that use the same boring badge design with minor color variations for every type of attendee, Star Wars Celebration is known for its badge collections, with over 15 badges — each with an artist’s fresh take on classic characters.

To fit Celebration VI’s “Join the Party” theme, artists Chris Trevas and Brian Rood came up with 19 new character designs featuring famous faces from a galaxy far, far away celebrating Celebration. Click through to see them all, from a moustachioed Droid general to a balloon wielding bounty hunter!

San Diego Comic-Con is officially a wrap for 2012!

Dave Filoni | July 18, 2012

That was fast! I usually spend several days at the con, but this year it was a 24-hour turn around. Still, I got a good look at the floor and was fortunate to meet several fans. I caught a couple of our regular clone troopers walking around in Star Trek uniforms on Saturday – even a member of my own crew!! Luckily they switched back into their imperial officer uniforms for the 501st photo.

Project Runway: Star Wars Style at the SDCC Masquerade

Matt Martin | July 17, 2012

runway_2

Hi all. I’m Matt and I’m a part of the StarWars.com team here at Lucasfilm. This past Saturday I had the honor and privilege to act as Lucasfilm’s official judge for the “Best Costume(s) from the Star Wars Galaxy” award at San Diego Comic-Con’s annual Masquerade – presented by HBO (I remember this because the whole shebang started with a long True Blood commercial).
