Jaime King Picks Up Clone Wars DVD Box Set

November 13, 2009

Actress Jaime King — known for her work in almost every genre of film from horror (My Bloody Valentine 3-D) to comedy (Fanboys) to action (Pearl Harbor) to cult classics (Sin City) — shows off the DVD box set of one of her favorite acting gigs as the voice for bounty hunter Aurra Sing in The Clone Wars animated TV series.

Jaime said last year about The Clone Wars:

I kept harassing him [Supervising Director Dave Filoni] to let me do some voices. I love the new TV show. The imagery is so beautiful! The last time I was up at Skywalker Ranch I spent a lot of time with the animators and Dave, and watched the whole process of how they make The Clone Wars. I love how they’re exploring sub-characters. Each episode visually looks better and better. I think it’s also exciting to open up more of the Star Wars universe to younger children to see.

Today Show’s Star Wars Trick or Treat

October 30, 2009

todayshow4

Each year, the anchors of the TODAY Show have fun as Halloween approaches by dressing in costume. This morning, with the help of Lucasfilm, Matt Lauer, Al Roker, Meredith Viera, Hoda Kotb and company showed up decked out in classic Star Wars outfits. After conferring with Darth Vader via hologram, Roker showed up dressed as Han Solo with Chewbacca in tow. Matt arrived via X-wing as Luke Skywalker. Hoda, fittingly, arrived as Yoda. Kathie Lee Gifford had R2-D2 as her sidekick since she was dressed up as C-3PO. Ann Curry was revealed to be hidden beneath Darth Vader’s mask. Appearing as royalty were Natalie Morales as Queen Amidala and Meredith Vieira as Princess Leia. The hosts then competed in a game of “Jedi Jeopardy,” where the anchors tested their Star Wars trivia knowledge. See it online here. Read the Today Show’s story here.

Star Wars Easter Eggs in Clone Wars

October 23, 2009

Watch The Clone Wars carefully and you might catch quite a few shout-outs to the Star Wars films in various allusions and Easter eggs.

Wired’s GeekDad Blog points out a few:

  • In a gambit later used by Han Solo and Luke Skywalker aboard the first dreaded Death Star, Cad Bane disguises himself in trooper armor to escape notice and slip past security.
  • When Admiral Yularen says “No! Lock them all down, hurry!” it is a reference to C-3PO’s line in A New Hope, as he frantically admonishes R2-D2 to shut down the trash compactors aboard the Death Star.
  • The holographic mobile hovering over the Gungan toddler’s crib includes a colo clawfish, an opee sea killer and a sando aqua monster, the three massive underwater beasts that attack Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon’s submarine in The Phantom Menace.

Reporting about Season Two of The Clone Wars is exciting and fun, but that also means a lot of hungry reporters need to be fed before they can all demo LucasArts games, chat with cast and crew, and get their photos taken with Cad Bane!

Leave it to the creative Lucasfilm Animation chefs at Big Rock Ranch to not only make tasty Gungan and roast Bantha sandwiches, Palpatine pizzas, and Wookiee cookies, but they also showed off their artistic decorating skills with fancy Cad Bane cookies complete with evil red glittery eyes. Who knew bounty hunters tasted so good?

Here’s a selection of photos directly from the food line. Nom Nom Nom!
