Star Wars Art Series: Illustration Out Now, More to Come

The third title in our Star Wars Art series is out: Illustration. This follows Visions and Comics. This book unites for the first time a lot of art that has appeared in a lot of places, some easily accessible, some hard to find, from limited edition prints to licensing artwork to everything in-between — by artists such as the legendary Ralph McQuarrie, Jerry Vanderstelt, Christian Waggoner, Paul Youll, Brian Rood, Terese Nielsen, Tsuneo Sanda, John Alvin, Dave Dorman, Hugh Fleming, and many talented folk.

Saturday, October 6, is Star Wars Reads Day, and I’m happy to be part of the celebration. Fans will be gathering at bookstores across the U.S. to promote reading and to pick up some fun freebies, and some of the events will feature Star Wars writers like me and costumed characters from the 501st Legion, the Rebel Legion, the Mandalorian Mercs, and the R2 Builders Club.

Here’s my brother and I in our t-shirts, off to see the movie (again), and that Christmas we all got the gift of Star Wars: comic books for me, a lightsaber for my brother, and my mom got a picture-disc LP record of the soundtrack.

- Reading Tom Swift Jr. in the back seat while driving across Nebraska in July on a family vacation
No AC, no Interstates, just heat and dust and the adventures of a young man with cool future technology. My first real introduction to the wonders of science fiction.
