Mondo Chewbacca Print

“Attack Position” by Rich Kelly

Collectors and fans who’d like to add something a little different to their Star Wars art collection should check out this new series of art prints from Mondo.

Mondo is the Alamo Drafthouse’s collectible art boutique, featuring designs from world famous artists based on licenses for popular TV and movie properties including Star Wars, Star Trek and Universal Monsters.

These prints are VERY limited in run and are snatched up by collectors quickly, selling out in mere minutes. So if you want to know which prints are on sale and when, follow MondoNews on Twitter!

Here’s the most recent print “Attack Position” by artist Rich Kelly. It’s a hand-numbered, 24″ x 36″ screen print. Edition of 400. Printed by D&L Screen Printing.

Here’s what Kelly said about the print:

“When I was approached with this project, a considerable amount of artistic liberty was encouraged. After re-watching the original trilogy and observing how Chewbacca interacted with the rest of the characters, I realized that on more than one occasion he was basically used for comic relief with Han. Even during some of the battle scenes he seems to be fumbling around a bit.

As a kid, I definitely remember thinking of him as a major force to be reckoned with. Therefore, I decided I wanted to depict “Chewie” as one bad dude; kicking ass and taking names. Endor came to mind as an appropriate environment, with Chewbacca gliding down a fallen tree, about to attack a couple of unsuspecting stormtroopers.”

Mythbusters Grant Imahara Talks C-3PO Suit

At this year’s w00tstock geektastic cabaret, MythBusters Grant Imahara did a presentation about this character appearances dressed as C-3PO for Lucasfilm as he was working full-time for THX and ILM.

Grant talks about what’s like dressing up as Golden Rod to shoot car commercials in Japan, meet Oprah, and to open an amusement park in Australia with Hugh Jackman. He also describes other highlights while dressed as C-3PO like meeting Carrie Fisher & Magic Johnson.

Yoda Charity Lapel Pin

Show your love for Yoda and help raise money for a good cause with this Yoda Charity Lapel Pin from Yodasholonet.com benefiting Rady Children’s Hospital in San Diego.

The pin features Yoda flying the Rady Children’s Hospital Kite. The pin artwork was designed by artist Grant Gould who recently designed the artwork for the Celebraton V Badges. This has been approved and authorized by Lucasfilm Licensing.

The pins are limited to 300 and each pin will be individually numbered on the back of the pin. The pin will also feature a cardback that was designed by artist Jamie Snell.

The cost of the Pin will be $10 plus $1.50 shipping per pin.

1977 Star Wars Scrapbook

Many of us created scrapbooks of our favorite things as kids, but Star Wars fan and NASA contractor Michael Grabois’s Star Wars scrapbook from 1977 is downright Force-tastic. Michael scanned his scrapbook for all to see. It might be rough around the edges but it’s full of charm.

StarWars.com chats with Michael about his scrapbook and how his love for Star Wars seeps into his work at NASA in unexpected ways.

Before we start chatting Star Wars, what do you do at NASA?

I currently work for a NASA contractor at the Johnson Space Center in Houston where I train astronauts and flight controllers how to operate the Space Shuttle. It’s the second coolest job in the world, behind actually being an astronaut.

What are your first memories of seeing Star Wars?

I grew up in Edison, NJ. My dad got transferred to Houston the summer when I was between 9th and 10th grade. I saw Star Wars and Empire in Edison (in a 2-screen theater that has long since been torn down) and Jedi in Houston.

What made you want to start a Star Wars scrapbook when you were a kid?

My best friend when I was a kid was Mark Bernard, and we were always in competition to see who had the best or the most of something at any given time. I was 3 months shy of my 11th birthday when Star Wars came out (Mark was 2 months younger than me). We were both nuts about Star Wars and we tried to one-up the other with how many times we saw the movie, or who had the most stuff related to the movie, things like that. In order to manage our collections, we each started a scrapbook.

My version mostly consisted of me cutting out movie theater ads, newspaper articles, trading card wrappers, merchandise ads, etc. Mark had more of the toys than I did, but we ended up blowing most of them up with firecrackers (I know, why did I blow them up when we could have saved them mint on the card?). Mark’s favorite character was Han Solo. I liked Han too, but Mark had called it first, and since we couldn’t both have Han as favorite, I chose Luke to be my next favorite. (It made sense at the time!)
