Comments on: Han and Leia: Why They’re Perfect Together

I had never seen “Star Wars” until my late twenties, ten years after the PREQUELS had been out. I watched all six at once, the only prior knowledge I really had of them the usual cultural stuff (the Force, Yoda, Darth Vader and the crazy breathing, and the Leia Cinna-bun hairdo) and what I’d read on Wikipedia. I didn’t even know about Han Solo.

There were two things that blew me away instantly: the special effects (parts of the prequel looked stunning, and completely blown away by the original trilogy’s SFX – without CGI!) and, of course, Han and Leia.

(Even being a fan of Alec Guinness (”Kwai”) and McGregor (from everything!) didn’t strike me as much as these two.)

Han and Leia’s relationship – for all the reasons you mentioned – was just fantastic, with all the classic elements of a great romantic couple. As I saw all the films together in a week and had little prior knowledge of any of them, I was watching both trilogies’ romances fresh. Anakin and Padme scared the cr*p out of me with the same intensity that I cheered on Han and Leia.

Han and Leia really are cute! My favorite pairing, however, happens to be Anakin and Padme. But just because Padme and Anakin are the parents to Leia, it makes me love Han and Leia even more! My friend, who loves romance, hates Star Wars. Apparently she doesn’t recognize the love that flows around the glalaxy…
