Star Wars Will Be Forever

I used to work for Disney. I’m not sure how many of you knew that. I was in the Television Animation Division, and I worked on projects like Teamo Supremo, Kim Possible, Lilo and Stitch: The Series, Dave the Barbarian, and Fillmore. It was an amazing time for me as an animation artist. Walking around the studio lot and seeing the influence that Walt Disney himself had on every aspect of his studio. When I started at Lucasfilm I saw that same attention to detail everywhere around me, and it all came directly from George.

Over the years that I have worked at Lucasfilm, I have been fortunate to work with Disney again, by participating in Star Wars Weekends in Orlando. It’s a yearly celebration of Star Wars that takes place at Disney World and it always leaves me impressed. The entire team that works on the event loves Star Wars and has always shown the greatest respect for it. The commitment to quality is always there, whether it’s in the live performances or the details in the costumed characters. They want to get Star Wars right, and they always do. Star Wars and Disney work well together. I’m sure anyone that has gone to Star Wars Weekends would agree.

I think this is an incredibly exciting time for all of us. I am being reunited with old friends of mine from my Disney days and getting ready, like all of you, for Episodes VII, VIII, and IX. When Revenge of the Sith was over, I found myself in the incredible position of carrying the torch forward. Now I can see the incredibly bright light that is the future of Star Wars. For those of you who are fans of The Clone Wars, do not worry. We have many stories left to tell, and every one of them came directly from George himself. Right down to the last one, where that thing with Ahsoka happens…

Thanks to George, Star Wars truly will be forever. Now, let’s make the jump to hyperspace. Things are gonna get awesome!

So you’re confirming that the thing with Ahsoka happens in the last episode….

    Nice.

    I can wait.

    • avatar Ginny Ze Jedi says:

no. not ashoka. scream of anguish. sob sob. I am crying.

wait is the thing with ashoka her death, or something else. please let it not involve Lux. I like the fella, but I think steela was a better girl for him.

      • avatar Commander Cody500 says:

I have to say Ginny Ze Jedi that Lux would have been better of with Ahsoka cause they’ve been through a lot together.

    • avatar MarioBros says:

Well, it’s kind of predictable since nothing is mentioned about her in the third episode, and I think someone else will die, Rex.

      • avatar bear says:

They should go for unpredictable outcomes, i would vote for Ahsoka living the clone wars series including the last episode. Something clever would happen. Death is final, nothing good comes from it, would be just “book closed” for the story. I want the story to never end for Ahsoka.

    • avatar JediStacyB says:

Shaz I hope we don’t have to wait till the last episode. I mean come on by the time we see Obi and Ani again there is no mention of the loss. So, one would think that A. It wasn’t tragic and so no mention or B. It was tragic and they both are well past it.

  2. avatar Jamie says:

Is season five the last Clone Wars season??

    • avatar Jezzy Fezzy says:

Season 5 is not the last season. They got Season 6 in the works. But I hope Ahsoka survives though, so that she can be in this new Star Wars film. :D

      • avatar Joe says:

She would be older than Luke if she is in the new film. Not thinking taht would be a good thing. That is unless they do some flashback scenes. But to my understanding, clone wars is only tentatively relevant to the actual movies.

      • avatar JediCharles says:

I’m afraid Ahsoka probably won’t be in it since the events would take place after Return of the Jedi. She would be 42 years old at the end of ROTJ so it’s plausible. If they make the movie in the ‘Legacy Era’ (which would allow the original cast to play their natural ages), the character would be at least 78. A Togruta can live up to 94 years so again maybe. If somehow Anakin ran her off before the purge then maybe but the character is not in the Expanded Universe and wouldn’t be because she was created for The Clone Wars post dating all EU content up to 2008.

        • avatar RogerRogertheSithAssassin says:

The Legacy era takes place over a hundred after Episode VI so its impossible for any of the Original Trilogy characters — not to mention ones from the Prequel Trilogy — to appear. I think you might have been thinking of the New Jedi Order era. The Sequel Trilogy is rumored to take place about 50 years after Episode VI which would date it around that time. But it’s just a rumor.

      • avatar steve says:

i hope she dies, because if she lives through order 66 in episode three, and turns up in star wars 7 she’ll be really old, over 50, and when over 50 you are look as good you do not. also she’s animated

  3. avatar RogerRogertheSithAssassin says:

I really hope TCW continues past Season Six. I don’t want this series end just because Disney wants that to happen. I’d rather have more seasons of this show than a Sequel Trilogy, spin-off films and any other TV series. I think many would agree that this series deserves a proper resolution before it ends (and hopefully that’ll happen in a few more years). :)

    • avatar shazbazzar says:

I’d like to see it continue, too. Definitely into (and perhaps even beyond) the events of Revenge of the Sith.

But I’d like to see a “spin-off” as well with the Young Jedi episodes we’re seeing now on The Clone Wars. I think these characters and stories deserve their own series — this arc is incredibly well done.

      • avatar RogerRogertheSithAssassin says:

I wouldn’t mind if TCW continued into the events of Episode III but only if it was told from a different POV. Maybe Ahsoka’s (if she lasts that long). However I would prefer it if the show ended where Episode III begins: The “abduction” of Chancellor Palpatine and the Battle of Coruscant — like the micro-series only better.

TCW is one of the few currently running shows that’s actually worth watching, so it’s a shame that it might end after next season. If it does end then I just hope the conclusion is satisfying enough for everyone. But I honestly doubt it will be so that’s why I want another couple of seasons out of the show.

    • avatar Cascador says:

I partially agree with you. I wouldn’t like to see this show end, but on the other hand I don’t want them to milk it out. If they have written episodes until the end of season six, then I’m sure they’ll be good and I’m sure they have a good ending in mind for the last episode, whether that goes bad or good for Ashoka… I don’t really care. It will be as it should be.

      • avatar RogerRogertheSithAssassin says:

I don’t want them to drag things out either, but I really don’t want them to rush to the end. I can honestly see them making about seven seasons before they end it. They still need to imply Padme’s pregnancy, send Anakin and Obi-Wan to the Outer Rim for a few months and so on. I know they could do that next season but with the other stuff we’ve heard about it so far it seems unlikely: Boba Fett/Cad Bane team-up, Talzin’s gameplan and fate, Plo Koon and the Wolfpack on Tatooine, Tusken Raiders, more Ahsoka, more Rex, and a Fives-centric story arc. Plus we have yet to see the Jedi lose the armor and start wearing their robes. And also the fates of Eeth Koth and Oppo Rancisis (who will be introduced next season) and Stass Allie’s introduction also.

    What thing with Ahsoka!?!
Looking forward to seeing Episode VII, directed by Dave Filoni….

  5. avatar Hector Rios says:

Oh, man! That was one heckuva tease at the end!

  7. avatar Ramiro Olmos says:

Hey Dave, great to see you move so far up the ladder. You were my storyboard teacher back at AiCA-LA, and were one of the few teachers that I hold up high regards for. I remember you took us around the Disney studio for a student tour, and it was just me and another student that ended up going. Been loving the Clone Wars, Thanks for everything!

  8. 9. avatar Tommy Amundsen says:

OMHG dont kill her off, not after last episode we could see how adorable cute she was as a child NOOOOOOO Let her leave the order or something with her love or what ever

  10. avatar William says:

I would love to see KOTOR done in this format!

  11. avatar FengShuiEngine says:

Dave, if Season 6 of the Clone Wars does indeed shift to Disney XD (you don’t need to confirm or deny this), should we expect the content of the show to be much toned down? That kinda my primary concern.

  12. avatar Apophis_ says:

Sorry, guys, but Ahsoka have to die. I love her too, but this is necessary for Star Wars universe.

    • avatar Jezzy Fezzy says:

Uhh…Not really. There are a few canon TCW characters that survived past Order 66. So I’m sure that Ahsoka will survive this thing as well.

      • avatar TheGCU says:

Ahsoka HAS to die before ROTS. All the women that Anakin cares about end up dying. His mother’s death and Ahsoka’s death are what helps him make the decision to accept Palpatine’s mentoring, to try and prevent Padme’s death.

If Episode VII takes place approx. 50 years after Jedi, hopefully they do NJO and the Vong. That would be awesome.

  13. Dave Filone I support you, my kids support you and will be for anything you need. You won that place with hard work. George can be sure that his creation is in good hands… in a good brain! :)

  14. avatar LANDO'S SON says:

Ahsoka does’nt have to die ,she could be Luke Skywalker’s secret Jedi Master, having survived The Clone Wars and the Jedi purge that comes after she could train Luke in new Jedi skills &abilities that he uses in Episode VI,but only after she swears him to secrectcy because the trauma of the clones betrayal effects her so much she travels from planet to planet staying one step ahead of Imperial troops while trying to figuire out if she should return to fighting the evils in The Galaxy. It would be like a role reversal for Ahsoka, training her former master’s son in the ways of the Jedi. Any thoughts?

  15. avatar greenpaw says:

    Ok :-)
Thanks Dave. Much as I’m itching to know what’s coming I’m happy to be enjoying the journey one story at a time – we are so blessed.
    Cheers

  16. avatar Paul R. says:

I dont know if this is possible, but could you request a spot in the movie as an extra or some background sith/jedi?

  17. avatar Laurel says:

If you look closely at Anakin in the funeral scene in the season five trailer, you will see Ahsoka standing next to him. I hope that gives everyone confidence that Ahsoka will live through this season!

    • avatar Jezzy Fezzy says:

I saw it too. Her outfit is pretty distinctive and recognizable to take notice in that scene.

And it’s confirmed that Ahsoka will be in Season 6. They’re undecided on her fate just yet, despite Dave being such a tease in the last bits of this blog of his!

  18. avatar Manny Bothans says:

She will be frozen in carbonite, then thawed out for VII.

  19. avatar Roberto says:

you’d better not kill ahsoka, thank you =)

  20. avatar Mike says:

but she might come up in the reality serie !!

  21. avatar Grant says:

I honestly don’t see the show going on for such longe since it’s unrelated to the new trilogy and Disney won’t want to cheapen the films with a TV series.

3D Star Wars is good as dead.

This Disney deal is the worst thing that happened to Star Wars since The Holiday Special.

    • avatar BaldVader says:

Ah. You’re one of THOSE idiots. I’m already tired of idiot fanboys somehow relating Star Wars as being “toned down” or become amalgamated into some supersensational corporate blob by being acquired by Disney. That won’t happen. Disney has probably the best track record of NOT interfering with the masterful work of their assets or limited partnerships (Pixar puts out EXCELLENT WORK year after year without interference from the great white gloved, iron fist)!

What proof do you sad goons who whine about the “end of Star Wars” by Disney when there’s SO much proof to the contrary? ALL OF YOU….SHUT UP! NOW! I’m just sick & tired of your crowd who crab at just about ANYTHING different than the original trilogy as they were released 30 years ago. Spare us! SHUT UP!

  22. avatar jari says:

Hopefully the new movies disregard the EU stuff almost completely, and stay true to the feel of the original movies. Mark Hamill will be back for sure, and so will R2-D2 and C-3PO. Hopefully all the original cast will be back, and then a new generation as lead characters.

Im so excited You are the best Dave Filoni I met you at CVI you signed my phone Bet day ever Wolf pack is awesome keep up the work and in case you read this I have a question will we see more Boba Fett ?

  25. avatar Lillian Skye says:

I’m looking forward to all the good things that are to come and am trusting that this is a good step for Disney and Lucasfilm. Disney and Star Wars have done well together in the past!

And Lol Dave…”Where that thing with Ahsoka happens…”

  26. avatar ReneePero says:

Hey Dave! I’ve been waiting to see your thoughts on the Disney thing. From a fan perspective I’ve seen it as a positive thing and I’m excited to see what the future holds. Very cool to hear what you have to say! Thanks!

  27. avatar Marcus says:

Awesome…..can’t wait. Was sad after ROTS finished as I thought it was all over so hearing this news is great. Star Wars has been a huge part of my life so getting to see more movies is amazing. Looks like the new movie/s will be based on original material too so I would assume it would follow the story line of the earlier stuff which is totally appropriate.

All I ask Disney is that you keep the opening credits and music because that is a must for any star wars film. The new movie/s would not be the same if the classic opening changes from the past 6.

    Anyway great stuff Disney.

  28. avatar bear says:

Hmm “that thing with Ahsoka happens..” had a thought that we have no “good” characters to witness the after RotS era. If Disney wants to transfer a character from this series for possible Dark Times series it would be Tano. It would be quite emotional coaster ride with the loss of many friends, and did the rebels really have no force users for whole those years, none questioned how it was possible they had a jedi among them in eps 5 and 6, were they just lucky against Vaders forces.

  29. avatar darthpurge says:

Cagey as always with that Ahsoka comment, Dave! BTW, my 8yo loved The Gathering episode, as did I. Afterwards, he really got into looking for his own crystal in his playing, overcoming his fears in the process. He totally got it! Thanks!

  30. avatar Eric says:

Ashoka could definitely live, carbonite freezing, different species also have different patterns of aging, Yoda was 900 years-old, not sure about her aging progressions though, seems like she grew pretty quick in the first couple of seasons. She could definitely have a part in continuing legacy of Anakin (light side). Darth Vader could have a legacy contigent as well.

Of the main characters to step to the Forefront, in at least one film comes Boba Fett, possible helping to shed light on some mysteries of the Sith after having worked for the Dark Lord Vader over the years his knowledge comes in very handy in preserving the galaxy, as long as he is well paid

  31. avatar Frank says:

What about this in a last episode of season 6:

Ahsoka finds out about Padme & Ani, possibly Anakin even discloses it to her (he already hinted at it towards her in season5) when on a mission together. At that same time she is very split over her feelings for Lux. They involve Padme as to what to do about it. Seeing how secrecy has disrupted Anakin & Padme’s life Ahsoka decides she wants a different future but can’t live with the idea of leaving the order by admitting to breaking, no even rejecting, the code.

Ani, Padme 7 Ahsoka agree to stage Ahsoka’s death during her last mission before she takes the trials. The council sends Anakin out to “rescue” her, but of course he will simply ensure the Jedi lose all track of her. As they say goodbye he “knights” her, and pledges he will come for her when the Clone Wars are over and when he is a Master and has had a chance to change the Council’s views on attachement.

Anakin returns to the council presenting “proof of her likely death”. However Windu is highly suspiscious of Anakin and at this point loses his trust in him as he senses Ani is hiding something: he fears the worst (and assumes something completely mistaken, believing Ani’s affection is directed towards Ahsoka completely missing the point it’s Padme). Anakin is sent on a mission again, as Padme finds out she is pregnant. Unable to reach Ani she directs a communication to Ahsoka, asking her to come around when the time for delivery is near …. we see Ahsoka leaving Padme’s funeral procession, after she has seen Padme still wearing Ani’s token, to confront Vader … In a last shot we see Vader and Ahsoka back to back, lightsabers lit:
    -”Padawan Tano?” …
+”I have seen Skywalkers offspring and have seen the senator loved their father till the very last moment”
-”He is no longer among us …. but the Emperor must never hear of his offspring” …
+”Yes my Master, I will ensure this will remain hidden”.
-”Go now Snips, your Master is gone”.
+”When you see him … tell him he taught me well”
Ahsoka leaves, Vader extinguishes his saber.

  32. avatar Kea Alwang says:

Oh, for all that’s good in the Star Wars universe, Dave…please don’t kill off Ahsoka: This mom with the extra-senstive daughter who looooooves Ahsoka will NEVER hear the end of it .

  33. avatar That guy on the moon says:

I’m certain that Star Wars VII-IX will not include characters from Clone Wars, as that takes place way back, about 100 years. Also CW is a side series.

  34. avatar cr says:

So where is future of sw part 3?????

  35. avatar Yoda says:

There is no way the clone wars characters will be in the VII movie. Also the only jedi that survived order 66 were obi-wan and yoda. I can’t wait to see it.

    • avatar Ferus says:

That’s not really true, as some others survive Order 66 (Solace, for one; read The Last of The Jedi). Even though in the movies only two survive, in the EU at least 13 Jedi survive.

  36. avatar Tj says:

I want to see Ganodi and Zatt have a moment alone. Please have Ganodi and Zatt kissing at the end of season five. I want to see an episode that shows Ganodi and Zatt kissing and having a moment alone. Please have Ganodi and Zatt kissing in the future. Please make episodes of Ganodi and Zatt kissing. Please don’t kill off Ganodi and Zatt.

  37. avatar Hannah says:

oh my gosh, that thing with ahsoka, you’re killing us dave. but honestly, i dont mind if she lives or dies, and i dont mean this as in i don’t like her character, she’s actually my favorite clone wars character. but if she lives, i hope its for a legit reason, not something really cheesy like she runs off with lux. But i wouldn’t mind if she died in a really heroic and honorable way, then i think it would be a good way to end her story.

  38. avatar Tj says:

Hello Dave What about this at the end of season five If Petro Byph Gungi and Katooni finds out that if Ganodi and Zatt were kissing They would probably be shocked. They might tell master Yoda and Ahsoka that Ganodi and Zatt kissed at a private moment. Petro Byph Gungi and Katooni might start teasing I would love to see a clone wars episode.

  39. avatar MDH says:

Well since everyone is theorizing about Ahsoka, here’s mine.

There is clearly no sign of her in Revenge of the Sith. So she’s likely dead, but… Yoda clearly has a vision of the future, clouded though it is. He may have planned for a contingency.

Remember the scene in episode 6 where the ghost of ObiWan speaking to Yoda about the departing Luke says “He’s our only hope…” Yoda replies, “No there is another”. We all assume it to be Leia and it’s not really confirmed other than some minor force abilities.

I theorize that Ahsoka could be “preserved” (carbonite ring a bell?) either intentionally in a planned event or possibly by another bounty hunter for a future return possibly decades into the future and that she is in fact “the other” Yoda referred to.

I don’t care to think about Ahsoka dying but we certainly saw plenty of Jedi die so who knows. I’ll be watching. The Clone Wars has become very dark and violent and I love it.

  40. avatar Frusciante9 says:

I hope that The Clone Wars episodes continue for a few episodes after Ahsoka is written out. I would like to see some episodes that are set during and even slightly after Revenge of The Sith so that Order 66 can be shown in more detail.

  41. avatar Frusciante9 says:

And in reply to the last post I read somewhere that when Empire Strikes Back was made George Lucas wasnt sure how many sequels would be made and the óther’ hope was actually Luke’s sister who at the time wasnt Leia but someone else who was going to be introduced in the original Episode 7. But by the time Return of the Jedi was actually made George Lucas had decided that there would be no more so Leia was made the sister so that the story could be wrapped up quicker. Although I did read it on the internet so I don’t know how true it is.

  42. avatar Tj says:

Hi Dave Will there be a episode where Darth maul and Savage faces Plo koon Zatt and Ganodi Yarael poof and Obi Wan. I would love to see a clone wars episode.

  43. avatar Robert says:

“While sleeping inside the cave, Tano was awakened by the sound of her own voice. She then saw a vision in the form of her future self, an older Ahsoka Tano who sought to warn her younger self about the great danger that Anakin Skywalker posed due to his gradual succumbing to the dark side. Before vanishing, the older Tano gave a cryptic warning to the younger version of herself, insinuating that Tano’s future might never come to pass as long as she remained at her master’s side.”

If she stays, she dies. If she leaves, she goes on to do something else.

  44. avatar JediStacyB says:

From what i got from Celebration VI Its very possible that Ahsoka will move on from being in the field to staying at the temple and training younglings. The Only thing that becomes an obvious unknown is if she makes it out of the temple during order 66.

    Stay Tuned!

  45. avatar Silvano says:

    What the hell fokes,
Of course the should continue the Jedi tales. Its what star wars has build upon and will continue to grow on. Just rebuild the republic and follow the storie’s of Luke starting his new Jedi order on Javin 4 with the children of leia and Han. Rebuild the Jedi temple and let the Jedi shine again. Give those bounty hunters some kind of little role and bring back the sith in the game. Were desperate for some Jedi after all those years. Bounty hunters, smugglers, senators, soldiers, republic representativs and stuff are nice for the background , but WE NEED THE JEDI!

  46. avatar Silvano says:

Please give us as much Jedi as they can…….

  47. avatar Ginny Ze Jedi says:

DON”T SELL STAR WARS TO DISNEY!!!! YOU GUYS WERE SUPPOSED TO BRING BALANCE TO THE FORCE, NOT LEAVE IT IN DARKNESS!!!! YA’LL HAVE JUST LEFT US IN DARKNESS!!!! DISNEY IS THE DARKEST SIDE TO ANYTHING!!!! DISNEY IS GOING TO TAKE OUR MOVIE. OUR UNIVERSE. OUR HEROES. OUR X-WING FIGHTERS AND BLASTER GUNS!!!!! OUR STAR WARS!!!!! DISNEY IS GOING TO MURDER ALL THAT!!!!!!

  48. Disney is the best choice for transition..and Id rather live in a world of continued Star Wars Movie Releases, theme rides,etc..then none…I think its a great thing Star Wars is in good hands.
