“Cloak of Darkness” (S109)

Ahsoka and Jedi Master Luminara escort captured viceroy Nute Gunray to trial, unaware that Count Dooku has dispatched his deadly apprentice assassin Asajj Ventress to free the prisoner and eliminate the Jedi.

This episode picks up on Rodia immediately after the events of “Bombad General.” Nute Gunray’s escape while en route paves the way for his appearance in future episodes in the series and in Revenge of the Sith. Other Separatist leaders who get captured during the series only to later appear in Revenge of Sith won’t fare as well, spending much of the time span of the series in incarceration.

Luminara Unduli and her clone commander, Commander Gree, make their first appearance in the series. They will both appear in later episodes and are with the forces on Kashyyyk in Revenge of the Sith. This episode marks the first time that Luminara and Ahsoka have met. Ahsoka will eventually befriend Luminara’s Padawan, Barriss Offee, who shows up later in the series.

Sidious expresses concern to Count Dooku over whether or not Ventress is up to the task at hand since she had failed on several previous occasions. Sidious’s opinion of Ventress’s abilities will change later in the series.

“Lair of Grievous” (S110)

General Grievous must prove himself worthy of the Separatists when Count Dooku leads Jedi Master Kit Fisto and his former Padawan, the Mon Calamari Jedi Nahdar Vebb, to Grievous’ villainous enclave.

Following on the heels of “Cloak of Darkness,” Nautolan Jedi Kit Fisto (seen in Attack of the Clones) makes his first appearance in the series. He goes to Vassek expecting to find Nute Gunray, only to discover that Gunray is off-planet, appearing only as a hologram. Nahdar Vebb makes his first (and last) appearance. Grievous’ confrontation with the Jedi is a test given to him by Count Dooku, following several high profile failures by Grievous, including the loss of the Malevolence, a defeat at Bothawui, and the destruction of Skytop Station.

“Dooku Captured”  (S111)

During their own attempt to capture Count Dooku, Anakin and Obi-Wan discover that the Sith Lord has already been kidnapped by pirates.

“The Gungan General” (S112)

While negotiating Count Dooku’s ransom, Anakin and Obi-Wan are taken prisoner. The Jedi and Sith form an unlikely alliance in a bid to escape, with Jar Jar Binks as their only hope.

In this duology, Obi-Wan and Anakin are first introduced to the Weequay pirate Hondo Ohnaka and his gang. Hondo has a recurring role throughout the series, working both with and against the Jedi, depending on which path he finds more profitable. His actions in these episodes will have ramifications depicted in Season Five. We’ll see the planets Vanqor and Florrum later in the series.

Senator Kharrus is the first of two Gran Senators to meet their demise in the series. The staff he wields is one of many nods to Indiana Jones.

Sounds like we’ll be seeing mor of Gunray, sweet.

I hope that is case my friend. We have to see the Separatist Council Leaders make an impact of some sort on the war.

      More Nute Gunray all around!

I’m going to take a guess and say “Jedi Crash”, “Defenders of Peace” and “Trespass” come next. :)

And just for those wondering: Florrum will appear in the Young Jedi arc beginning on Cartoon Network next week but we won’t see the planet or Grievous’ attack until the third or fourth episode of the story.

  3. The episodes in Blogs #5 and #6 will be pretty predictable. I’ve tried to focus these blogs on connections to the overall series. After #6, the episode timeline bounces around all over the place.

Cad Bane’s episodes have not been broadcasted in the correct order, so I guess a lot will change with them :)

Great post, Mr Chee! But I wanted to know what you have to say about appearance of the Kaleesh species. In “Lair of Grievous” there are statues of organic Grievous, but they look so different from the Kaleesh from other sources, e.g. “The Old Republic” and “The New Essential Guide to Alien Species”. Sorry for my English.

It is good to see that the CIS council leaders are not totally forgotten by the show and the people at LFL.

I as well hope we see more of Nute Gunray in the series as well as his fellow Council Members like TIKKES, Wat Tambor and the rest.

It is a shame not to see them for so long!

  7. avatar Manwhoooo says:

I hope we do see more of Gunray – he turned out to be one of the show’s best characters, and considering he’s such a major part of the CIS – it seems weird that we haven’t seen him since Season Two.

Hi, Mr. Chee! I’m really glad to be getting the episodes in their chronological order and see how close I got. One order that I listed in my UNofficial chronology was to push Lightsaber Lost further down the line to be between Corruption and The Academy. This made for a nice little trilogy of Ahsoka development that makes a lot of sense. When you get to that point, might you be able to incorporate that (if you haven’t already)? Thanks again for making the order known.

  10. avatar Cody B says:

Ok, a little late to the discussion here but why does the Ryloth trilogy not come right after Supply Lines and Ambush? Shouldn’t all five of those episodes be one complete arc?

  11. avatar Tj says:

Bombad jedi was a funny episode at moments. Silood has been in so little. Onaconda farr was one of my favorite senators. I wish Onaconda farr didn’t die.
