Dear Mr Windham,
I was doing research on Blood drives with Star Wars theme and came across your blog. I am in the process of organizing an event in honor of a dear friend of mine, a little boy who is a huge Star Wars fan. He is currently hoping for his heart to recover but is potentially facing a heart transplant due to complications from a surgery last September. He is still hospitalized in Minnesota. This child required to date over 125 units of blood through April 30th. The family has been surrounded by the love and support of their community and would like to respond by giving back by having a blood drive through The American Red Cross. Our goal is 120 units in one day- a large task. I contacted our local 501st Legion, the Central Garrison and they will graciously attend this event. I would not have know about the 501st Legion had I not read your blog. I personally want to thank you for all of your efforts. My friend’s son is here today because of these grand and selfless acts of others.
This is the first blood drive I have coordinated and with such a large goal I need all the help I can get. I am to reaching out to ask you for any additional suggestions, resources or contacts you could provide to ensure success for this event.
I was also hoping you could provide some guidance in the proper usage of copyrighted images.

“Star Wars Read & Bleed” was a big success. The Rhode Island Blood Center’s goal was to collect 25 pints of blood, but they collected 34! Thanks to everyone who came to the event, and everyone who donated blood. Enormous thanks to the 501st and Rebel Legion, and to all the Lucasfilm licensees who donated merchandise and participated in Star Wars Reads Day. And thanks to the friendly phlebotomists and the bloodmobile’s driver, who let me know that they’re all Star Wars fans too. Looking forward to seeing you all again soon!

What a great idea, Mr. Windham! I loved your post, and I also especially enjoyed your 2011 book, The Complete Vader. The altruism of great people is like you is what drives me to be a better person (and, of course, a more devoted Star Wars fan). Thank you for sharing this marvelous story.
