It’s that time of year. San Diego Comic-Con International and Star Wars Celebration are as good as started, and we’re on the verge of showing and sharing a lot of really cool stuff with fans of Star Wars and of pop culture. Keep reading for some details on what to expect from us at this year’s Comic-Con…
I call it “Show Time,” because there is no turning back. The deadlines and dates are hard stops. It’s a “Here we go, ready or not!” time of year, and we’re just about ready…but not quite. These next few weeks will be a serious blur of activity as we put hundreds of finishing touches on the events, exhibits, and shows.
San Diego Comic-Con
We’re back with a huge pavilion in what the Comic-Con International attendees call the Star Wars Zip Code. Around us are Hasbro, LEGO, Dark Horse, and Gentle Giant, and Sideshow is not too far away. I love the village within our pavilion with Star Wars publishers Becker-Mayer, Del Rey, and DK, and collectible licensees Camp Planners, Comic Images, EFX, Hallmark, Her Universe, Mad Engine, Mimoco, Museum Replicas, Rock Rebel, and Uncle Milton. Bioware (Star Wars: The Old Republic) and Sony Online Entertainment (Clone Wars Adventures) will have game stations for live play.
As a special preview for Star Wars Celebration VI we’ll give a first look at a few of the incredible art helmets from the As You Wish Project. The Project, organized by The Dented Helmet and the 501st Legion, will feature dozens of helmets on display, modified by artists and visual effects houses, that will be sold on eBay after Celebration to benefit Make-A-Wish. We’ve got one coming to Comic-Con from Legacy Effects that is going to be a show stopper. Be sure to come by and see it in our pavilion.
The good folks at Comic-Con continue to uphold the tradition of Star Wars day on Friday, and we’ve got a great line-up of panels that day. Dave Filoni will head up a Clone Wars panel on Saturday with a special sneak peek of Season Five. Saturday night there will be a prize for the best Star Wars costume in the Comic-Con Masquerade.
We’ve got Star Wars well covered!
But there’s more…
For years I’ve felt our artists and visual effects geniuses from Industrial Light & Magic (ILM) should join us at Comic-Con, and this year they will! Look for their area in our pavilion – you’ll get to talk with some of ILM’s most noted artists, and see some of their work. They will be presenting a panel on Friday, too.
And still more…
“Why does it have to be snakes?”
I’m not kidding. Don’t miss this. I’m betting it’s the best photo op of Comic-Con 2012.
Join the Party – Star Wars Celebration VI!
On the record as saying I love our Celebration party theme. But I think I’ve blogged on long enough for today and it’s time to get back to work on the shows. I’ll write some juicy behind-the-scenes-of-Celebration tidbits in my next entry.
