Star Wars Fan Makes Cuddly Mini-Bantha Herd

Crafty Star Wars fan Heather Arlan used our Cuddly Bantha craft tutorial on StarWars.com and customized the craft to make her own adorkable herd of mini banthas.

We chatted with her to find out how she did it and why it was so much fun!

Why did you decide to make a herd of cuddly mini banthas?
Who wouldn’t want a herd of cuddly mini banthas? It’d been a long time since I did any sort of arts and crafts project, so I figured I would find something fun to make that had to do with Star Wars and found your tutorial online! I had bought enough materials to make one a lot larger, but figured I would give the little one a shot first. Once I finished it, I couldn’t help but make another. I still have enough to make at least 3 more, and that’ll probably happen before the end of the week.

Exclusive PSWCS Medallions at Celebration V

For those fans attending Celebration V and keeping a list of cool exclusives to pick up at the show, here’s one you’ll definitely want to add:

The Pennsylvania Star Wars Collecting Society will be selling Lucasfilm approved, 1.75” medallions featuring an image of Chewbacca for $10 each at their booth at Celebraion V with all proceeds benefiting Canine Corps.

Canine Corps is an organization that cares for the dogs of US military personnel deployed overseas in Iraq, Afghanistan or Africa. They provide this service free of charge to soldiers who would otherwise be forced to give up their companions for adoption. PSWCS is thrilled to have the opportunity to support our American servicemen through this worthy charity.

This medallion is the second PSWCS has produced and sold for charitable efforts. In 2009 PSWCS sold medallions featuring an image of Obi-Wan Kenobi to benefit Operation Ward 57.

The medallions are a one-time, limited run of 1000.

Steve Jobs Lightsaber Battle in Antennagate!

Apple founder Steve Jobs has been busy defending the iPhone 4, which has been mired in problems since before its launch. The latest scandal to crop up, dubbed “Antennagate,” is so-named because the phone’s antenna gets poor reception if the phone is held the wrong way.

Check out this awesome animation from NMANews explain Antennagate, while showing an epic lightsaber battle between Steve Jobs and Microsoft’s Bill Gates. Jobs also has some rather impressive Force lightning skills.

Han Solo Shout Out on Pretty Little Liars

If you’re watching the mean girls thriller/mystery series Pretty Little Liars, the last thing you might expect is a Star Wars reference. But of course, there it is, and we couldn’t be prouder. And with a character named Lucas, how could we go wrong?

Lucas: “The Homecoming Queen leaving?”

Hanna: “Nominee; and yeah sort of.”

Lucas: “Isn’t that like Han Solo abandonning the Millennium Falcon?”

Improv Everywhere: Star Wars Subway Car

Star Wars is everywhere so it was only a matter of time before Improv Everywhere took their own stab at bringing their favorite scenes to the masses. Since 2001, Improv Everywhere has entertained the public at random in New York City. Some of their 100 improv stunts include Frozen Grand Central, the Food Court Musical, and the famous No Pants Subway Ride, and now Star Wars Subway.

For their latest mission, the group staged a reenactment of the first Princess Leia and Darth Vader scene from Star Wars on a New York City subway car.

The white walls and sliding doors on the train reminded us of the Rebel ship from the movie, and we thought it would be fun to see how people would react to a surprise appearance by the iconic characters. We spread out the actors along the train line, staging it so they would enter the right car at the right time.

The people on the train went crazy for Vader. I think they thought the joke was over once the Stormtroopers got on, but Vader just topped it so well. One thing we learned is that almost every human will immediately take out their camera when they see Darth Vader. We’ve done lots of crazy missions on the subway over the years, but I have never seen so many people taking photographs of our performance. How can you not take a photo of Darth Vader? It’s impossible to resist!

Ashley Eckstein Hosts Her Universe Panel at Comic-Con

One of the fastest growing demographics in the Science Fiction genre is the female audience. Thanks to an entertainment landscape which is growing more and more female-friendly, the foundation for fangirls in the Sci-Fi/pop culture world is getting stronger every year and they are rapidly becoming a Force to be reckoned with.

Realizing this incredibly important and increasing segment of the Sci-Fi audience, Ashley Eckstein, the voice of Ahsoka Tano on the television series Star Wars: The Clone Wars, has teamed up with The Araca Group, the co-producers & merchandising company behind the Broadway sensation, Wicked, to launch Her Universe — a line of merchandise designed exclusively for female fans. Beginning with a license for Star Wars, Her Universe focuses on authentic and high-quality licensed Sci Fi/Fantasy fashion apparel and merchandise.

Eckstein’s new endeavor, however, is not just about selling merchandise. She hopes to start a movement within the Sci-Fi community to equally acknowledge the female fan base. Her first step will be coordinating and hosting a special panel at San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday, July 24 from 6:30pm to 7:30pm in Room 24ABC, entitled “Her Universe: Shining the Spotlight on Female Fans — the Past, Present and Future of Science Fiction Through Female Eyes.”

Hasbro Star Wars Comic-Con Exclusive

Blair Butler from G4’s Attack of the Show visits Hasbro’s headquarters in Rhode Island to check out some of the new exclusive toys they’ll be revealing at San Diego Comic-Con 2010. And of course, that means Star Wars exclusives!

It would not be Comic-Con without a Star Wars exclusive!

It’s another comic pack with two exclusive figures. The real kind of “ah ha” for me in this pack is Darth Maul with bionic legs. So Darth Maul comes back and what would he look like if he was put back together again?

Blair:
It’s this crazy roided out Darth Maul after he got chopped in half by Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon, and he’s back and has little spider legs, right?

Chad:
He does have spider legs. And the unexpected hero that comes along with him in this pack is Own Lars.

Nathan Fillion Tweets His New AT-AT

As a special thanks to actor Nathan Fillion for being so vocal about his awesome lightsaber duel with his neighbor and his Jedi mind trick skills on his hit show Castle, not to mention his Force-tastic Christmas tree, we asked Hasbro to send him a new addition to his home — the new, gigantic AT-AT.

According to his tweets, it looks like he got it!
