Collectors and fans who’d like to add something a little different to their Star Wars art collection should check out this new series of art prints from Mondo.
Mondo is the Alamo Drafthouse’s collectible art boutique, featuring designs from world famous artists based on licenses for popular TV and movie properties including Star Wars, Star Trek and Universal Monsters.
Here’s the most recent print “Father: Encounter on Dagobah” by artist Tomer Hanuka.
Hanuka says about his print:
“The central idea going into this image was depicting planet Dagobah itself as a portrait of Luke’s subconscious in it’s most interesting and unformed phase. In a nightmarish sequence, Luke runs into the mist where he thinks he saw Vader. Luke finds him and a lightsaber duel ends with Vader’s decapitation . The mask cracks open on the severed head, exposing the frozen face of a dead Luke Skywalker.
The suggestion here is that somewhere within Luke’s psyche there is a potential for ultimate evil. Luke’s greatest challenge isn’t the Galactic Empire and it’s endless, faceless troopers, but the magnetism of the dark side; the seductive idea of choosing his own potential for power over everything else.”
Previous prints include “Scrap Yard Power Droid” by artist Jeff Soto and “Raider” by artist Dave Kinsey. The posters are limited edition and screen printed. The posters sell out at AMAZING speed (sometimes within minutes). The recent release of the 2nd poster in Mondo’s Star Wars series, “Raider,” sold out within 25 minutes.

It seems you can’t go five steps without running into a stormtrooper at San Diego Comic-Con, and that’s fine by us. While Comic-Con has it’s share of the always-impressive fans in the 501st Legion and Rebel Legion, as well as the ever-stunning Slave Leias, we also wanted to feature our favorite Star Wars costumes that made us smile.

While most of us go to San Diego Comic-Con in search of the coveted comic book or writer/artist autograph, more and more fans brave the overcrowded convention thanks to the promise of seeing exclusive trailers and footage of upcoming films and TV shows buzzing in our head.
Of course, that means every year, a growing number of celebrities attend the pop culture convention to promote their latest project to the masses. It also means that a few celebs who happen to be comic book fans risk going on the show floor itself just to take in the madness like a bonafide geek.
Here’s a selection of some of the celebs we saw at Comic-Con this year, whether they were on the G4-Lucasfilm party red carpet, posing for photos for fans, or just being fangirls & boys themselves.

Filmmaker Zack Snyder recently started tweeting, which is exciting if you can’t wait to learn more about his upcoming action-fantasy film Sucker Punch.
We’ve already seen Snyder show off his Star Wars pride in a Watchmen Web doc, so it was only a matter of time before he tweeted about something Star Wars-related.
Sure enough, his fifth tweet was about his daughter’s birthday cake from Violet’s Cakes which so happened to be Yoda riding a unicorn. Bravo, Zack Snyder. Bravo.

When I first came across this epic piece of fan art of Chewbacca riding a giant squirrel into battle against the Nazis all I could think was “This is Wookiee-tastic!”
I tracked down the artist Tyler Edlin to chat about his masterpiece and its back story.
What is your art background?
I attended a 2 year certificate program at the Art Institute of Boston At Lesley University. I also have experience in photography and hold a Bachelors degree in design.
What is the story behind that awesome piece of art depicting Chewbacca riding a giant squirrel into battle against Nazi soldiers?
I asked my friend Gary what he would like a for a wedding present. At first he said Chewbacca riding a giant squirrel into battle against an unseen force living in the shadows.
He added, “give him long flowing fur and his mount should look adorable. He should be riding to expected death on a last charge.”
Eventually he settled on him battling Nazis. So there is the finished a product a wedding commission.

Five of the largest Star Wars collecting clubs in the US are pleased to announce a set of five themed patches for Star Wars Celebration V. The participating clubs are The Washington DC Area Star Wars Collecting Club (DCSWCC), The Kentucky Star Wars Collectors Club (KSWCC), The Ohio Star Wars Collectors Club (OSWCC), The Pennsylvania Star Wars Collecting Society (PSWCS), and the Star Wars Grand Florida Alliance (SWGFA). The five triangular embroidered patches, each sponsored by one of the clubs, fit together like a puzzle to form a larger image of Boba Fett, the show’s de facto mascot. Design and artwork for the patches was provided by long-time web cartoonist Bill Cable.
All five patches will be available exclusively at Star Wars Celebration V and free to attendees, but quantities are extremely limited. Each club will be distributing their sponsored patch in a different way, which will be announced separately.

It wouldn’t be San Diego Comic-Con without Slave Leias. Of course, this year at the annual Slave Leia photo op, the usual mayhem occurred. Who needs red carpet celebrities when you can see all the Slave Leias at the convention all in one spot?
The lovely ladies were out in full Force this year, complete with a supermodel addition of America’s Next Top Model winner and reality TV star Adrianne Curry.
StarWars.com chats with Adrianne about her Comic-Con adventures dressed as Slave Leia.
What was it like being part of the official Slave Leia group photo at this year’s Comic-Con?
I had a lot of fun. The ladies were all beautiful and sweet. I had a personal armed Mando escort to meet the ladies. It was surreal to be surrounded by 4 or 5 of them, pounding our way through the crowd to the Gentle Giant booth. No one stopped me for the first time that day. They kinda just looked on in awe. My friend Eliot led the pack and had me by my chain. Then all the Leias were escorted by the Mandos to our shoot. I think it’s funny how the most overplayed costume for girls at a con hasn’t even begun to lose its luster. Sadly, I had to bow out early, but for good reason. My panel was about to start. Again, I had an armored guard to my panel. Now I know if I ever want to be left alone, rely on a squadron of Mandos!
What’s it like wearing the costume around the convention? Is it uncomfortable? Drafty?
Well, I didn’t get to shop, or do much of anything other than take pictures with people. Of all my costumes, I got recognized the most in Slave Leia. I have worked non stop in the gym to ensure I could hold my head up high while walking in Carrie Fisher’s boots. The metal bikini is not comfortable. Drafty doesn’t even begin to describe it. I ended up wearing it to the Dusk Till Con party and into the wee hours of the night. I think I must have posed for over 3,000 photos all day!

Every year at Comic-Con, we end our Star Wars programming with the “How to Draw Star Wars for Kids” panel. Star Wars artist Katie Cook and myself show kids (and adults) how to draw uber-cute versions of their favorite characters. It’s a great way for parents to sit down and relax with their younglings as they learn to draw and have some fun showing off their Star Wars knowledge.
