Looks like President (Jedi Master) Obama has good taste in kids books — especially those with light-up lightsabers! He was recently in Iowa and purchased Star Wars: A Pop-Up Guide to the Galaxy by Matthew Reinhart.
Yahoo News reports:
After mentioning an Iowa City bookstore in his health care speech Thursday, President Barack Obama stuck his head in and spent $37 on kids’ books.
The president bought two books for his daughters, 11-year-old Malia and 8-year-old Sasha. He also paid for a “Star Wars” pop-up book for the 6-year-old son of White House press secretary Robert Gibbs.
We asked Star Wars: A Pop-Up Guide to the Galaxy author Matthew Reinhart about the President’s recent book purchase and he told us:
What can I say? He’s got taste! Seriously, its a tremendous honor & delight for this humble pop-up book maker. Just goes to show you how universal Star Wars really is!

Wow. It always amazes me that those most synical people can find fault in even the least harmless actions. The President was just buying childrens books. Why do you have to demean every little thing. I wonder what kind of president you some of you would be with your very judgemental views. You sound like a dictators. Lest you forget that ALL presidents makes decisions based on information that is given to them.

That’s right ‘Necks, I and millions of voters elected this guy. Not a Supreme Court, not a rigged Ohio vote run by our state campaign manager. Not by every voting machine company exec “guaranteeing” a win. A solid majority win against all those odds.
You lost. You get another chance to try again in the fall. That’s how it works.
In the time being, since this IS a democracy, suck it up. When my friends and family were getting shot up for some BS war, I didn’t threaten to kill my Rethug elected official.

wow, that’s really cool! i also agree with DarNamell. that’s exactly what i think. President Obama got the majority of votes, and so, he should be respected even if you didn’t vote for him. i wish that everyone wouldn’t put him down for certain things he has done, because, as WhyLordWhy says, the President makes the decisions he makes based on the information he’s given by SOMEONE ELSE!!! so in all reality, his decisions are not entirely his own when he makes them. no matter what you think May The Force Be With You!!!!!!!

I wish that the U.S. got a chance to elect a new president in the Fall, but that isn’t the case. You might want to learn how “the process” of which you pretend to command so much knowledge works; presidents are elected for 4 years, not 2.

Wow, I can smell the stink of your sarcasm from here. Of course the presidential vote is in 2012. However, so many of your ilk are crowing about repealing this or that and some speak of impeachment proceedings that yes, the specter of messing with the executive branch exists.
You folks can’t seem to respect the actual will of the people, as expressed by vote totals. My comments were centered – and most sane and educated folks would recognize it – on the control of the houses of Congress.
As for the US losing, what did it lose? There is no government takeover of, well, anything. Private doctors and hospitals are still private entities. Private insurance companies remain the same, except for rules that INCREASE their customer base, which brings down costs across the board.
Having worked in the medical field, I have seen how many folks have had to resort to medical care through an ER, which usually results in very expensive unpaid bills. This reform will bring the majority of that system to an end. Aside from helping out small business owners, and helping the elderly pay for meds, that’s the crux of the reform effort.
Paying off someone’s scheduled visits are going to be a whole lot cheaper than paying off unpaid ER bills.

The blog called the president a Jedi Master; I called him a Sith Lord. As a Star Wars fan that visits the site not looking for political commentary, I am getting sick and tired of the sobbering love affair that has been displayed more than once on this site with Obama.
I was told that I had the wrong president and I responded that I form my opinions based on action, not rhetoric.
The next thing I know, Darbanell is throwing derogatory redneck comments in the direction of those that don’t like the president.

@Darbanell: Your “will of the people” theory is seriously flawed. The “will of the people” is a snapshot in time. Because Obama was elected, it doesn’t mean he has free reign to do what he wants. We are a year and a half removed from the mood of Nov 08. Things have changed. I think the most reputable polls (Rasmussen/Gallup) show that.
What did the U.S. lose? This new law is unconstitional; people are now forced to purchase or product from a private company or pay a fine. Your very existance is fined if you don’t conform. Where in the constitution is the federal government granted oversight of health care. You can’t find it! It isn’t there. This new law raises premiums.
It doesn’t cover those who Congress promised it would — I’m all for my tax dollars covering children; not 26 year old babies. It destroys wealth. It kills jobs. It adds hundreds of millions to state budgets when states are already going bankrupt. In the words of Howard Dean — it is income redistribution.
The vice president admitted that this bill allows the government to control the insurance companies. Liberal elites have promised that this is only a first step; the next step — the selling point for Kucinich — is that the public option is going to follow. Americans do not want a government-run system, but liberals are hell bent on delivering one anyway.

From my perspective, the political parties are one in the same. They just grow government at different speeds and to different levels of intrusion. I’m all for additional parties; I also think that an elected candidate needs to win 51% of the vote — the current system punishes those that would risk their vote with a third-party candidate. We probably have more in common on these issues than you might have initially thought.

The most common, innocent act by a president from either party and the fringes of the parties start their rhetoric!! Unbelievable!! Perhaps if all of you fringe political voters talked to the people in the middle, you would realize most people are disgusted by your thoughts and views.
I just find it strange how an advanced nation can kick up so much fuss about something as basic as universal health-care. The rest of the developed world has moved on…
