Hasbro’s New RC Flying Millennium Falcon

February 15, 2010

Hasbro’s remote-controlled flying Millennium Falcon is one of those items that, if you didn’t see the photo, you’d have to ask, “What do they mean, flying? As you can see, however, Hasbro designers had the inspired idea to replace the saucer-shaped hull of the Falcon with a propeller to make it fly, although at a speed a few points behind lightspeed. Here’s Hasbro’s catalog copy for the RC Falcon, which will retail for about $49.99 this fall:

Han Solo once bragged that the Millennium Falcon made the Kessel Run in less than 12 parsecs…and now fans can give it their best shot with the all-new Star Wars R/C MILLENNIUM FALCON! For the first time ever, the MILLENNIUM FALCON — the most beloved and iconic Star Wars ship of all-time — is available as an indoor flying remote control vehicle. Measuring an impressive 11 inches long and 8 inches wide, the largest flying Star Wars R/C to date is highly detailed, easy to fly and includes a charging controller and vehicle battery for up to five minutes of flying time.

I’m still waiting for the holographic chess-like game that will make a Wookie rip your arms out of it’s sockets.

  2. kesseljunkie says:

    Must. Have.

  3. Spencer says:

Oh. My. God. everyone in my family will be getting one for xmas.

  4. Skatelin says:

arg, Hasbro…thats not how to do it…it should have been a shaped helium blimp. then you could have had a 2 or 3 foot Falcon flying round your living room. (yes I’ll take that product development job thanks)
That gyrocopter style is only going to have up and down controls (really only up with down done by gravity)

  5. Aaron says:

I would love to get one of those. Spencer can you adopt me.

  6. DVD Geeks says:

So it’s roughly the size of a sheet of paper and has a giant, gaping hole in the middle. Hmmmm… I think I’ll just lovingly admire the various models of the Falcon on display in my home and elsewhere.

  7. LuckyLuke says:

This bucket of bolts is never going to get us past that blockade.

  8. Cameryn says:

Would a screen covering the top and bottom and “painted” flush reduce its lift so much that I couldn’t fly?

  9. Justine says:

Wow! Just…..wow….That’s no space station, that’s just plain KEWL! Thanks for sharing the squeegasm!

  10. aran says:

with the extra weight at the front, the center of gravity will be forward causing it to move forwar, the lower rotor will be able to speed up and slow, causing rotation.

  11. David says:

These central rotor things are unstable enough without adding turbulence. Just bask in the awesome compromise.

  12. CyberTech says:

A parsec is STILL a measure of distance not time

  13. doug flinch says:

hmmmmm….. it looks like a hollow frisbee.

  14. Kyle says:

It looks like an ORI ship from Stargate.

  15. Brett says:

For those that say that parsec is a measure of distance, not time, you are right, but why point that out??

“it’s the ship that made the Kessel run in less than 12 parsecs” is bragging that their ship was able to get to Kessel, which is a planetoid in the midst of a black hole cluster, in a minimum amount of distance. They aren’t bragging about how fast they got there, but how close to black holes they managed to get, presumably based on bravery/stupidity and speed.

  16. looks remotely like an electrical doughnut made from a ripped instruction booklet. :P

  17. Phantom Menice says:

Now all we need to have is a Star Destroyer and Tie Fighter and X-Wing R/C Flyers and then we can re-create the epic star wars battle sceen with these R/C Flyers.

  18. Phantom Menice says:

they should make them with electronic sounds and lights as well

  19. Jetboyboogie says:

i’m definitely getting this. and yes, if we had RC’s of the other ships, that would totally rock!
