It’s bad enough to be mugged for your wallet, but this unfortunate fan also was robbed of his replica lightsaber!

The new decade got off to a bad start for the victim, who was dressed as Obi-Wan Kenobi, when he was attacked by four youths while making his way home from a New Year’s Eve fancy dress party.
The 37-year-old accounts manager was grabbed as he trekked home from the Brudenell Social Club along Queens Road, Hyde Park, Leeds, between 1.30am and 2am on New Year’s Day.
As he passed the Harolds streets area he was pinned against a wall and punched and kicked to the ground from behind by four youths.
After delivering the brutal beating the cowardly yobs stole the rare Master Replica FX “lightsaber” which could cost as much as £300 to replace.

Why is it that these outrageous (nigh unthinkable!) only seem to happen in the UK? or, should I say be reported from the UK. Maybe US journalists would rather not embarrass someone in the states. Dunno…
This is really horrible to hear, especially as it was after a New Year celebration too… No reflection on Leeds generally though, we have a Forbidden Planet and everything!

Because in the US he would have been killed for it more than likely! Too many people hurt worse over less here in the US.
In the US he would most likely have been shot… and the missing lightsaber would have been the least of anyone’s worries.
Jay, it’s because there are so many devotees to the “Jedi Church”, though I wonder if their point-of-view might be somewhat skewed (or they’re becoming Sithy).
Maybe he should’ve dressed as Vader. A little force choke would’ve scared them off!

I feel bad for the guy I know I would be pretty P.O.’d if I got mugged for my FX saber. They are expensive and can only hope the force will bring justice to these hethens

This is an outrage! Why would four punks want a FX Lightsaber anyway? Maybe the guy was rivals with a gang of British Trekkies and the hired the ‘yobs’ to take the expensive collectibe. But man I sure feel bad for this guy. Like I would be so upset if I was muged for my Force FX Lightsaber. I sure hope that someone won’t be wandering around that late after a day at Celebratiohn V!

My opinion is that those rogues are working for a gang of some sort, out to steal priceless Star Wars items, especialy lightsabers, and must be stopped before someone gets killed.

The Force is strong with this chap, but he is not a Jedi yet … He has to construct a new lightsaber and travel to Dagobah to get training from Yoda … and at the end he must confront Vader. Only then his skills are complete.

Hi people, jsut found this after a colleague pointed it out – yes, this was me.
Thanks for the kind (and amusing) words. Not sure if the attack was fancy dress related, I heard a couple of other guys got rolled for their mobiles (cell phones to my US cousins) that night and there have been a few incidents by the same suspected group since. I also lost 2 of my resin jedi pouches! Feel a bit daft but these things happen – I lived in the Hyde Park area of Leeds for 3 years and had no trouble at all. Almost recovered, still got a couple of broken ribs, but the kind people at Lucasfilm are trying to replace the lightsaber for me, which is very kind of them.
