Carving Yoda for Halloween

October 29, 2009

Texan artist Scott Cummins celebrates Halloween by creating amazingly intricate 3-D versions of famous faces — including Yoda — on pumpkins.

Using photographs as a reference he then transforms each squash with tools ranging from craft knives to spoons and potato peelers. The finished product is then illuminated with a 30 watt bulb, instead of the traditional candle, to reveal the sculpture in all its glory.

Star Wars‘ Yoda, Tubaka and a stormtrooper are just a few of the film characters in Mr Cummins’ expansive collection.

“As one might expect, there is also a lot of appeal with the Star Wars-inspired carvings. I did Star Wars because it is so popular with so many people like me who had grown up watching the movie.”
