The Big Bang Theory Writes George Lucas

May 14, 2009

We all love The Big Bang Theory! Sheldon does a mean Ackbar impression. They protect themselves against burglars using lightsabers replicas. And well, they’re funny.

But lately, the show has featured a few jabs against The Clone Wars animated series. So the writers of the show issued this letter to George Lucas during the end credits of one of their episodes that aired in November 2008.

It reads:

CHUCK LORRE PRODUCTIONS, #227

Dear George Lucas,

May I call you Mr. Lucas? On behalf of the writers of The Big Bang Theory, I would like to thank you for your astounding body of work, which has awakened the child within us and unleashed our dreams. That being said, we hope you don’t take offense at our good-natured jest regarding your most recent ainmated efforts. Yes they were cheap shots, but we can’t help but hold you to a higher standard — a standard of your own making. In closing, we are looking forward to Indiana Jones 5 – The Curse of the Golden Catheter. Oops, sorry again.

Very truly yours,

The Writers

P.S. To William Shatner of Star Trek 5.
Go ahead, sue us.

Why are you promoting TCW bashing? I watch TCW, I love the show, and there are people under your roof who work their @$$es off to make it. And when I last checked, your organization makes money off of it too.

Funny for a show that is so consistently not funny.
Chuck Lorre has one GIANT head on his shoulders.
His pompous letters at the end of his shows are incredibly self serving.

  3. Joe Bennett says:

To the two no humor guys that posted here GET OVER it. Mr. Lucas as a sense of humor if he didn’t he wouldn’t have had anything to to with the Robot Chicken episode. So I don’t think a few jokes on a VERY FUNNY show is going to bother him. If you don’t think that The Big Bang Theory is funny I would have to say it is because you don’t have the intelligence
    to get the jokes.

  4. Leland Chee says:

Keep in mind that this episode originally aired back in November, long before most of the Season 1 Clone Wars episodes were broadcast.

  5. LoneStranger says:

Big Bang Theory not funny? ~10 million people disagree every week. It’s one of the best comedies on television.

I find it hard to imagine that anyone who follows this blog wouldn’t be able to relate to Leonard and Sheldon on some level, if they haven’t lived some of the scenes themselves. Maybe you’re taking it too seriously?

  6. Rosenzweig70 says:

BBT offers little more than a re-hash of Laverne & Shirley sitcom structure with vocabulary grafted from Gizmodo. And that’s being generous. I’d encourage their exploration of some humility.

Put your hands together for the Sheeple of the 21st Century everyone.
Yeah – I guess it’s ’safer’ to simply follow the masses and conform to one way of thinking – isn’t it?

They make fun of Lucas Animations Clone Wars show, when they should be paying more attention to how bad their show really is.
If the creators of TBBT had any common sense, they would realise that these characters would have been way too young for the Star Wars fever of the late 70’s and early 80’s.

If they’re in their early 20’s, then they would have been born ‘after’ ROTJ and missed the excitement of seeing Star Wars in theatres and being caught up in the hoopla surrounding those early films.

If the show aired in November, why draw attention to it now?

  9. tfett says:

holy crap what a stupid letter you cant just make fun of something and say you didn’t mean it (trust me)

  10. Sagerian says:

Sounds like there’s a story to that, tfett. I’m betting it was size related and someone didn’t appreciate it.

I think people take these things way too seriously. I like the clone wars series, I like the big bang theory. The same people who have posted here to slag off TBBT slagging off TCW are clearly irony impaired.

It’s quite clear the characters are fans of star wars in general. So just enjoy it if you like the show, don’t watch it if you don’t, easy.

P.S. tfett I didn’t mean that. I’m sure you were happy with the size.

    P.P.S. Didn’t mean that either.

This show is not well written. The jokes are humorous but rarely laugh out loud funny. If you think this writing is funny go listen to patton oswalt or jim gaffigan for a while. Then return to this show and you’ll realize that the writing is just not that funny. Every time I try to give this show a chance I regret watching it.
You might like the characters and enjoy the stories. Fine. But if you say that this writing is really hilarious then your sense of humor
