Donald Faison’s Chronicles of Lando Calrissian

Bonnie Burton | May 6, 2009

Donald Faison, who plays Turk in the comedy Scrubs, was on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon where he showed off his Star Wars cred (he’s seen The Empire Strikes Back over 300 times) and pitched his new TV idea The Chronicles of Lando Calrissian, starring, of course, himself as Lando.

It’d be The Chronicles of Lando Calrissian starring Donald Faison. I’d be Lando. And it would be before he lost the Millennium Falcon to Han Solo in that Sabacc game. And we would be cruising across the galaxy in the Falcon gettin’ chicks, drinking ale. And the hair would be phenomenal! I’d have to wear a wig or what we could do is just shave my head for back in the day when Lando used to shave his head. He’d have a whole new crew. It would be before Episode IV. So Episode 3.5 or 3.6.

He loved the idea so much that he even made a stop-motion animation movie of what it would look like with toys that he showed on Late Night. Not surprising, his love for Star Wars influenced him so much that he ended up taking a stop-motion class when he was just a kid. He shows the clip to Jimmy and makes the sound effects off to the side. Awesome!

Canadians seem to be able to view it here — http://www.watchjimmyfallon.com/season-1/season-1-episode-36 .

I was watching this on DVR a couple nights later and was impressed that he knew so much about Star Wars, especially the EU. It’s not every celebrity that knows HOW Lando lost the Falcon to Han. He either had to have read the Han Solo Trilogy books or read up on Lando through a Star Wars databank. Personally I wouldn’t mind him as a young Lando. All in all it was definitely fun to watch!

I would totally watch that. No one these days gives the old school charachters a second thought. My absolute favs were Han Solo, Chewy and Lando Calrissian. That show would draw in thousands of fans. And Landos charachter is comical much like Donalds personality. I think he would do Billy Dee proud!

Not to mention the rest of the world….

Yes! This idea is amazing! Lucas should definitely consider using Faison as Lando at some point in the Live-action show, if not give him a spin-off of his own.

    There’s a video?

I’d go for it. Lando didn’t get enough action in the Original Trilogy, and he’s one of my favorite characters…

I can’t watch it cos I’m in the UK, but the whole thing just reminds me of scrubs where Turk meets Billy Dee. “LANDO!”

  14. avatar Ivan says:

Faison YOU RULE! All hail any celebrity with Star Wars nerd undertones. Can’t believe you know how Han won the Falcon!!!

  15. avatar Macksimum says:

Can’t believe nobody brought up the 3 Lando Calrissian books that took place before the original Han Solo trilogy. If Lucas were to make a Lando TV series chronicling the early adventures, I’d be all over that and I could see Faison doing justice to the role.

Already that short clip is more exciting and thought provoking than the entire first season of Clone Wars….and like someone said before it’s a shame the best characters in Star Wars (the original tril) are stuck only in the books.

    this is awesome idea!!!!

  18. I wonder if he knows about those old Lando Calrissian Adventures books. They could get a lot from them if they wanted to do a show, and it IS a GREAT idea. George is too hung up on the prequel stuff/Clone Wars still. Fans are more interested in the gang from the original trilogy, and I say that even though I did like the prequels.

  19. avatar serebyani says:

I guess nobody remebers the Lando books trilogy. Sad,, they werent bad..

  20. avatar Bil says:

There is a Lando Calrissian trilogy out there, forgot who wrote it, came out around the time of the original Han Solo trilogy (early 80’s ???) Takes place when he owned the Falcon. Would make a great start to the show!!! I would totally be there for it!

  21. avatar Tobar says:

Hah, I bet you guys didn’t know he plays (or used to play) Star Wars Galaxies. =P

  22. avatar Aengrii says:

It’s always fun to see a fellow Star Wars fan having fun with it… even if that means using legos in stop motion and adding verbal sound effects.

May The Force Be With You.

  23. avatar Omni says:

I didn’t watch it, but I hope he knew it was the finals of a sabacc tournament that got Han the Falcon. Donald he is an awesome guy and like him even more knowing he’s a star wars nerd like me!!!

I remember a novel from the 80s called “Lando Calrissian and the Mind Harp of Sharoo”
