Star Wars fans in Australia have banded together to help victims of recent bush fires that ravaged the state of Victoria, posting several eBay auctions of items donated by actors from the saga, Lucasfilm, and others.

From the Victorian Bushfire Appeal 2009 website:

On February 7th 2009, the state of Victoria in Australia was ravaged by Bushfires.

These wildfires destroyed thousands upon thousands of hectares of native forests and laid waste to many townships.

Over 2000 homes were destroyed and over 7000 people were left homeless by these fires which burned out of control for many weeks. Over 200 people were reported to have lost their lives in what was to become known as Australia’s worst natural disaster.

The people of Australia however were not beaten by these events and they rallied together as one to help those in need. Countless donations of clothes and food flooded into relief centers and thousands of volunteers lined up to help. People donated their time, their homes and opened their hearts to help those effected by the fires.

Head over to the charity’s official website for more details, and also don’t miss the over two-dozen signed items currently up for bids from Dave Prowse, Kenny Baker, Jeremy Bulloch, Bonnie Piesse, and others!

I’m in australia in NSW and I know someone who goes to my church who went down to the Victorian areas which were hit. When he came back he showed people at our school pictures of the horrific event. It was amazing that fire could cause so mush damage and unfortunate that the event occured. This seems like a goodway to help some kids over there in vic so keep up with this austion.

  3. Sad that it happened, but great that the auction is getting such an amazing response.

Thanks to everyone that has bid on items and thanks to everyone that’s hovering over the bid button just waiting to jump in. :)

i myself lost everything i own. i was overseas when it happened, so all of my belongings were stored at my parents home in myrtleford. this included a 30 year strong star wars collection.
i had collected since the 70’s and now its all gone.
it was not insured, tho it was supposed to be covered under my fathers insurance policy. he has recently declined to support my claims for any relief money, nor will he share any of his insurance money. i lost $80,000 worth of belongings. this does not include the resell or repurchase value of my star wars collection, which was worth more than my fathers house.

i keep wishing to start collecting again..but i have only recieved $8,000 from the dept of human services, and collecting again seems almost a waste of the little money i have.

i even contacted hasbro, and they didnt care..and i stopped telling my story.

its a shame that something that used to bring me so much joy is now a source of great saddness.

im not sure why im writting, i just came across this today… i dont know what can be done for me. i am homeless and jobless and i gave up my life in europe to be a support for my family who doent seem to want me here. no one seems to care that i lost an important and irreplaceable part of my life.

i can barely even watch star wars now, every scene in every film represents something i owned that has been lost. and i start thinking about every spare dollar i ever had dedicated to something that is now gone forever. i am devestated. its been a few months, but im still feeling destroyed.

im so sorry to hear of your loss,
i have inherited a mass of starwars stuff which was my brothers, he passed away in tragic circumstances and now i face the task of selling it all to go towards his headstone fund,
you can replace possesions but not people and you cant take it with you when you die,i just think of how much pleasure all the stuff gave him while alive, start collecting again and i bet the stuff will find its way to you
and keep the frorce with you ok xx
