Lost on eBay: Leia’s Do

The poor Princess. We scoured eBay looking for her lost hairdo but can’t seem to find it. It would seem that most of the original Kenner 12-inch Princess Leia dolls (which ironically came packaged with a comb) have endured a perpetual streak of bad hair days since December 26, 1978, when little girls (or little boys, and you know who you are) were motivated to loosen the buns and let her hair down. Unfortunately, few Leias have ever regained the difficult-to-restore hairmuffs, giving many-a-princess a forever frazzled look.

There’s of course also the issue of the Princess’ modesty being compromised on eBay, but that’s a fight for another day.

That picture on the right looks oddly like Natalie Portman.

Is that how George cast the role? :)

    (shudder)

Wait, you censor her top and behind but not the bikini area???

    Ah, sometimes timing is everything.

I snagged one (on ebay) for my daughter a few shorts years ago, gave it to her . . . and instructed her that she was under no circumstances to play with it! I know. I’m a mean mom. But at least Leia’s buns are intact. ;-)

(and, no, I did not say she could not look at it. That would be just way too mean!)

Goodness, I had this doll! I suspect very much it is still in the top of my mum’s wardrobe! I do remember how the hair was kept in place, but yep, impossible to replicate! Guess the manufacturer had a special droid for that!

I saw one at a local sale a few years back…buns intact and with a beat up box!…oh if I only had $400….

Since she knew I would appreciate it more, my sister gave me hers a few years back and was nice enough to fix the hair at that time. I have since had to replace the rubber bands and it turned out not to be too hard to fix the hair back into the buns.

ha, poor leia!! when i was little, i would treat my barbies hair with such care, that their hair is just about the nicest thing they have left (i have dogs who like to chew, and older brothers that would rather attatch them to fireworks…) i was able to snag a leia doll from a friend, and its still in its box (surprising, i know). i like the hair, ha, and every now and then, my younger sister will take my leia doll, bring it into her room, and try to copy the hairstyle on her dolls, haha! i guess its impossible to get leia’s hair like it was, from a frizzy, parted mess. haha

Quick! I need a stylist who can make “Star Puffs” STAT!!!!

This is not the first time I’ve seen this doll w/o clothes btw!

    HOLY KENOBI!!!

I still have the original Leia my parents gave me for Christmas…and she still has her hair up in buns! In fact..I still take her out every once in a while to make sure they still look good. Yes…I will be turning 40 this year, and I’m very protective of my doll! Her dress is a little messy, but the real question is, I can’t remember if she had boots or not?

I personally think Princess Leia is cool, but that’s a bad hair day!

I still have her and the Luke Skywalker doll. Buns NOT intact. I remember the hair was wound over a plastic donut thing ,then small elastic bands to hold in place.Yeah she had a comb and something else I can’t remember , what was it?
the Luke doll had a cool lightsaber.
