Some breaking news out of New York Comic-Con — Dark Horse Comics is telling an original comics story set during the Yuuzhan Vong invasion previously chronicled in the best-selling New Jedi Order series from Del Rey Books. This is no adaptation or retelling of a novel — no, Star Wars: Invasion is a brand new story by writer Tom Taylor and artist Colin Wilson. It starts this summer, first as an online preview, and then as a regular print comic.

Comic Book Resources has the scoop, with an interview with Taylor including art work samples from the series, and they look fantastic. The Yuuzhan Vong in full color glory — believe us, Skrulls have nothing on the Vong. These sickos killed Chewbacca, for crying out loud.

I totally love the DH comics but this is a series I won’t be buying, not in a zillion years.
now that i read all the NJO era books, now i’ll be waiting for the NJO:INVASION (STAR WARS) comic book. Sure that it will be in a omnibus pretty soon or later.
i’m looking forward to it.
No way! I’m so excited – I loved the NJO, and this way I’ll have something to read other than the sure-to-be-terrible Fate of the Jedi.
Wow, this is a shocking move from DHC. I am surprised they are delving into an era that fans have such a love/hate relationship with. I am one of the few people neutral toward the era, it has its ups and downs. However, I am very excited to see what DHC does with the comic series. I am hoping they take a page from the KOTOR playbook, and really focus on having a lot of character crossover, while still focusing on their own group of core characters. I think it would be brilliant to have their stories focus more on the time periods between novels, sort of showing how we get from novel A to B to C and so on, and of course we will occasionally want the alternate perspective on larger events during the war. Very excited!
Yeah I’m with Somp, I love DH but I never cared for the whole NJO thing. So I think I’ll be skipping this series. I’d love to see a series about Kyle Katarn though.
I read some of the novels and loved the series- the Vong are among the most frightening and most dangerous of all the Jedi’s enemies.
I never bought or read any comics before- but this is a series I’ll definitely be getting into.
I’ll sure be buying this!! Whoohoo!! It’s about time…
So getting this. At least trying out the first few issues. I’ve been waiting to get more visuals of NJO for some time now. A comic book for it would be awesome.
Sweet!! I’ve been waiting for a comic book adaption of NJO forever. Good decision DH. Can u guys get any better?
The New Jedi Order series is my favourite! The ONLY series that compares is the Thrawn Trilogy. Fantastic! I would definitely be interested in a computer animated movie of NJO only more realistic looking than Clone Wars (more like Final Fantasy movie) Superb series again, well done!
Fantastic! The Yuuzhan Vong Invasion as comics! I’m waiting for this so long. I will (and I mean WILL) buy it. Hope they make it a good series like Legacy.
@Tobar: The series will feature a minor storyline during the invasion and we learn about Kyle’s fate not before the end of the series. He could be included in the series. “Equals and Opposites” featured a Kyle-vs.-Vong adventure and I loved it. Kyle could easily come back for the “Invasion” story.
Wohooo NJO rules! *g*
I am big star wars fan but the main characters get old in this era so I am not sure yet.
Oh yes!!!
Best news out of comic con. I loved NJO it’s my favorite era of Star Wars. As long as this series avoids mentioning the LOTF retcon of Vergere then it could replace Legacy as my favorite Star Wars comic
)
God, not another title with a white male jedi in the lead? Give us a leading woman for a change.
I have to say, I really don’t care for the concept behind the NJO. It is way too much like Star Trek (the Vong= organic form of the borg) and Star Wars was the one sci-fi series that wasn’t about a single-species invasion threatening Earth/the universe. The NJO destroyed this distinction. Oh well, at least it’s not as bad as the Dark Empire series which basically invalidated Anakin’s sacrifice and the meaning of Return of the Jedi.
With that being said, the execution of the NJO series was awesome and it was great to see how our heroes reacted to such a threat. I wish the Bantam books had had that kind of direction, instead of totally new characters in each book and no feeling of continuity at all.
The Vong were incredible as a antagonist to the Jedi and were a great change from the the jedi v. sith/empire storylines. The authors actually did some big-boy writing that ended in beloved characters dying (stories had become boring because you knew that no one important was going to die… that’s why it blew many fans mind when they actually axed characters.) I don’t read comics but I’m almost tempted for this. If they end up coming out with a graphic novel, I’m all over it.
[...] At WonderCon (currently underway in San Francisco), Dark Horse Comics director of publicity Jeremy Atkins unveiled new cover art by Jo Chen for the forthcoming New Jedi Order-era series, Star Wars: Invasion (see the original New York Comic-Con story here.) [...]
Bitch, bitch, bitch. I hate new, different things…I wish it could just be 1977 again, the night everything changed, a new hope invaded the galaxy, and a little boy… wait a minute! Are we talking about Star Wars? The movie that challenged the norm, and brought forth a new era in science fiction entertainment? How dare they try to come up with a new take on things, thats different from whats come before! Whats the big deal? Yeah, i’ll read it…
Can I be famous now?
was kind of disappointed when I found out this wasn’t going to be a comic adaptation of NJO… but I usually come around sooner or later. It’s too bad that Lucas can’t put together a live action TV series of NJO and make it thoughtful, dark and dramatic like Battlestar Galactica/Firefly. If you think about it, all 20 some books could be adapted into 2 part hour long episodes (or some variation) and give us at least 2 or 3 seasons of TV, maybe even 5. Battlestar lasted for five years and it doesn’t even have the following of SW. With smart writing, good acting (hire decent actors with depth) and some superb action/CGI, I think it would be a hit. It won’t cater to kids though, which I am fine with. Tired of SW being dumbed-down, lower grade scripting and rehashing the same lines for humor… like in the Clone wars animated series.
I will buy Invasion though… cause I’m terrified by the Vong so much.
