Our Starwars.com ShoWest coverage of the Warner Bros. “Big Picture” presentation ended on an exciting note as filmmaker George Lucas took to the stage escorted by six Clone troopers from the 501st Legion.
Before airing a clip from Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Lucas addressed the audience comprised of motion picture distributors and marketers, fellow directors, producers and actors about his decision to make another feature and TV series that takes place between Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith.
Here’s what George Lucas said during the presentation:
It’s great to be back at Warner Brothers. I started here some 40 odd years ago. I made that exquisite hit before some of you were born called THX 1138. It was a huge hit. It played for a week. [laughs]
But now I’m back with something I think is really special. It started out as an idea to explore what happened during the Clone Wars. In Episode II, we see a little of the beginning of it. And in Episode III we just see the very end of it. We don’t actually get to see the whole spectacular battle.
This is really where it belongs — on the giant screen. It’s very new and different. It’s a little bit of anime, a lot of action and it’s exactly like the features only it’s more stylized. We have a new young character Ahsoka who’s a young teenage girl who turns out to be Anakin’s apprentice.
I think this film will hold up with the live action features. And I’m really excited to be able to bring it to you and I’m hoping that it will sell a lot of popcorn — because that’s actually what Star Wars is — one of the first popcorn pictures.

“I think this film will hold up with the live action features. And I’m really excited to be able to bring it to you and I’m hoping that it will sell a lot of action figures — because that’s actually what Star Wars is — one of the first mass-marketed film series.”
HAHAHAHAHA!!! Just kidding, George. You know I’m kidding, right? Or am I? No, I’m not… or am I?
He is really getting older looking when he puts his hair like that. Plus this is the first time in a long long time he has actually been out and been to a convention of sorts.
I wish Lucas had shown us more of the Clone Wars in the prequels…it’s a real shame he could only show us the beginning and the end.

I am so glad That George and Warner Bros. are going to work together on the new CLONE WARS.. I have been a huge fan Of the Star Wars Trilogy since I was very young.. I wish all the team the best of Luck..
George your an amazing vision has made a wonderful impact on so many. I love the Star Wars and all the hard work you and your team have put in it.
thanks..
Steve
Nice to meet you, Bonnie… if you happen to check in this weekend, please drop me an Email…have a question for you. Thanks!
I agree with Steve Lee. I know the Clone Wars won’t disapoint! Thanks George, for everything.
i wish they made more star wars movies
It’s good to see more in detail of the Clone Wars. To get up close to how the Clones responded in this crisis, and with the Jedi! How they worked togeather.
I’m super excited for the Clone Wars movie, it was so sad to think there wouldn’t be another chance to stand in line uber late just to say I’d seen it first. It’s awesome that George was there to present on the movie and I can’t wait to hear more and more about it.
August 15th!! I can’t wait til the Clone Wars movie is out. I’m really looking forward to getting a more in-depth view of the Clone Wars. Too bad it’s all animated/CGI though, but nonetheless, REALLY looking forward to it! =)
George lucas I loved your moveis and I cant wait for Star Wars Clone Wars. I will be wearing Star wars clothes that day. I am going to watch it the first day it comes out!
I wish George Lucas would do another 3 movies of the booke by Timothy Zahn called Dark Force Rising. OMG THAT WOULD SERIOUSLY ROCK
The 501st was honored to be part of this special presentation. Thanks, George!
I can’t wait. Was the footage new, previously-unseen stuff? Any chance of it showing up online one of these days?
Another note: will there ever be a Clone Wars trailer showing in theaters?
that is really cool that they had a live show with real cone troops, thats peety cool. ( i wish i was there)
George, when you mentioned THX1138, it brought back the night my brother and I took our wives to see it. He and I both were hooked and waited anxiously for your next film. The wives however, were bored stiff. That never dampened my desire to see what that thing called “Star Wars” was all about. I just wish I could have been near a theater showing it on the first day. I would have camped there to see it after seeing THX1138! You do good work. The best of success with the new animation!
Star Wars is the best thing to ever happen since oxygen was discovered in 1764!!
The clone wars was one of my favorites because of Jango Fett! He’s fricken amazing!!!
The clone army is kool. But the costumes were unrealistic that the members of the 501st wore. The new movie has a great representation of the clones but yoda and anakin and his padawan all look blocky and too cartoonish. Whats with those weird pyramidical excuses for lekku? thats messed up, yoda looks like the puppet from phantom menace, except all cartoony. star wars is about cool looking stuff and high tech graphics, not some 3d THING. whos with me?
