“Family Guy” Spoofs Empire Team | September 11, 2008

Fans of the “Family Guy: Blue Harvest” special are in for a treat with the next Star Wars inspired “Family Guy” as the show spoofs Empire Strikes Back next!

Sci-Fi Wire interviewed “Family Guy” creator Seth MacFarlane about the next installment, due to air sometime in the next season on FOX.

“It will be called Something Something Something Dark Side,” MacFarlane teased.

“Lando is played by Mort Goldman, who is the Jewish guy who lives up the street,” Seth MacFarlane said in an interview at Fox’s fall-season premiere party in Beverly Hills, Calif., this week. “We figured, black guy, Jewish guy, why not?”

In the sequel, “Boba Fett is played by the giant chicken,” Peter’s nemesis, MacFarlane said.

As in “Blue Harvest,” Stewie plays Darth Vader, and Chris plays Luke–leading to the awkward moment when Stewie tells Chris that he is his father. “Yeah, basically,” MacFarlane said. “He will have to tell Chris that he’s his father.”

“Family Guy” airs Sundays at 9 p.m. ET/PT, with new episodes beginning Sept. 28.

KISS Thinks Star Wars Rocks Team | August 6, 2008

(Kiss guitarist Bruce Kulick and Maul Stanley)If you’ve been to a convention, namely Star Wars Celebration IV, you might remember a rather impressive fan dressed as none other than Bananakin Skywalker, but his other alter-ego Maul Stanley has a knack for getting some awesome interviews with some of the most legendary folks in metal music. Luckily for us, he took time out to ask long-time Kiss guitarist Bruce Kulick about his love for Star Wars. Here’s a few highlights:

Do you have a favorite line, moment or scene from any of the Star Wars films?
Gosh, every 5 minutes there’s another memorable scene in every one of the movies. George Lucas just knows how to create great entertainment. No doubt, when Darth Vader reveals to Luke Skywalker that he’s actually his father, that’s a very intense and powerful moment. And to see him later without his mask on… to see how freakin’ ugly Darth Vader was underneath… that was actually quite scary!

So who’s scarier under the mask, Darth Vader or Gene Simmons?
Good question! Gene can be very scary, but I’d have to say he’s still one up on Darth Vader.

Simon Pegg Wants a Lucasfilm Gig Team | August 4, 2008

Fans of the geektastic British sitcom “Spaced” know all too well that actor Simon Pegg’s character was so destroyed by his hatred for The Phatom Menace that he lost his job. Pegg’s not much of a prequel fan either, but he hopes he can still find a way to work on “The Clone Wars” TV series.

“The second season of the show came out just after The Phantom Menace, a film which, I’m sorry to say, I found immensely disappointing,” Pegg says. “Needless to say, Tim felt the same way and in the opening episode ‘Time’ burns his Star Wars stuff on a funeral pyre. The scene recreates exactly the moment when Luke burns the body of his father at the end of Return of the Jedi. I think it reflected the feelings of many fans. For the first time ever, there was a division in a group of people that had always felt very united. Fortunately, I had an outlet for my displeasure. In one scene Tim screams at a little boy for wanting to buy a Jar Jar Binks doll. It summed up the frustration of the older fans whose expectations were so high and the innocence of the small children for whom it was a colorful and exciting film.”

Han Solo Speech on “Grey’s Anatomy”

Bonnie Burton | June 3, 2008

We already know plenty of Star Wars fans love reading Expanded Universe books and comics, but when we see a major TV character show off her knowledge of the Star Wars galaxy — including mention Jaina and Jacen in passing — we can’t help but smile.

The season finale of “Grey’s Anatomy” had a nice shout out to Han Solo and why he’s not a loser for getting himself encased in carbonite. Chief resident Bailey gives a rather inspiring speech to a panicking patient who’s beating himself up for getting his leg stuck in quick-dry cement to try and impress a girl.

Well This is ‘Something New’

Rebelscum recently updated with a fascinating look back at a little-known Star Wars ad campaign staged for Panasonic back in the late ‘80s, a campaign that endowed Threepio with a butterfly net, Yoda with ear buds, Chewie with daffodils, Ewoks with leafy produce, and the Maker himself with his own wood-cut sea-faring dragon.

A great, thoroughly-researched article that includes posters, TV ads, behind the scenes imagery and more, all of which have rarely been seen here in the US. Head on over to Rebelscum to check it out.
