Darth Vader to Battle in Ultradome Team | May 3, 2009

If you like Spike’s hit show The Deadliest Warrior where experts use MythBusters-like tactics and science to see what historical warrior would win in a battle against another such as Ninja vs. Spartan, or Pirate vs. Knight — then you’re going to love Spike’s new web series produced and starring one of our favorite celebrity Star Wars fans, Heroes actor Milo Ventimiglia.

The web series is called Ultradome and the premise is simple (and sounds entertaining):

The project is from Agility Studios along with Ventimiglia’s DiVide Pictures. In each three- to five-minute episode, two characters engage in a heated geek-culture debate — “Who’s tougher, Harrison Ford as Han Solo, or Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones?” — then are transported to a stadium where the duo engage in single combat using all the weaponry, skills and pop culture touchstones from their respective hero’s creative arsenal.

“My whole life has been spent engaged with friends in intellectual debate…like whether Captain Kirk is tougher than Spock or if Middle Earth is a more difficult place to live than Tatooine,” Ventimiglia said. “With Ultradome, we can bring these debates to the public and settle them in the most logical way possible: through armed combat.”

Ventimiglia said he and partner Russ Cundiff came up with the idea after putting a couple mock lightsaber battles online and envisioning how Luke Skywalker would slice and dice Mr. Spock.

The actor will appear in the first episode, which pits Star Wars vs. The Lord of the Rings. Ventimiglia will be backing Rings. but only because his co-star pleaded to represent for Star Wars.

Our money, as always, is on the Dark Lord of the Sith. Go Team Vader!

Which Star Wars character match-ups do you want to see do battle on Ultradome? Boba Fett vs. Dog the Bounty Hunter? R2-D2 vs. Doctor Who‘s K-9? Tell us in the comments!

Clone Wars voice actor Matt Lanter not only gives Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker his voice, but also plays a role in the hit relaunch of 90210. Here’s what he has to say about his work on The Clone Wars.

On playing Anakin Skywalker in the animated series ‘The Clone Wars’: “I knew it was going to be a huge thing because it was ‘Star Wars,’ but I honestly didn’t know it was going to be this huge. I think we’re the number one show for boys 6 to maybe 15 on cable and network combined. In 161 countries… I feel a closeness to that character. He’s there in appearance but I add the life and sound to him. My mom thinks she’s watching me when she sees the cartoon.”

On getting the part: “[They called me in for] a character called Deep Star Killer. I researched as much as I could on the Internet about Deep Star Killer but I couldn’t find a thing, so I decided to wing it. They told me got for something between Luke Skywalker and Han Solo. Evidently they liked it – they called a few days later to tell me I got the part, ‘and by the way, it’s Anakin Skywalker, so welcome to the series.’”
“I walked in [to Skywalker Ranch] and the first thing George Lucas said was, ‘Anakin!’ To have him call me Anakin… it was mind-blowing. What an honor.”

Lightsaber Opera? Team | April 24, 2009

If you prefer your opera to be less classical and more like Fifth Element, you might appreciate LA Opera’s production of Richard Wagner’s Die Walküre. This unique production uses props made of neon tubes which end up looking a lot like lightsabers.

Here’s a sum-up from a review by

As you can see, this rendition of the opera kinda looks like what would happen if Clive Barker and George Lucas joined Heavens Gate. Neon, crazy costumes, smoke machines, these are all the makings of an entertaining night at the opera. There was even a mesh screen covering the stage that displayed projections during the performance.

The great thing about this show was that the reason people attended this show, for the timeless score and story of the Valkyrie, remained untouched, and is just as phenomenal as it must’ve been at its 1870 inception.

Check out this billboard for McDonald’s new specialty coffee drinks, which include the McCafe Latte. Maybe we just have Star Wars on the brain too much, but we can’t be the only ones who see a clone trooper helmet in the foam, can we?

I’m lovin’ it!

Star Wars as Airwolf

Bonnie Burton | April 16, 2009

Can’t get enough Star Wars TV intro mashups? Good! Because here’s a couple more gems from the same fan who made Star Wars as Macgyver and Star Wars as Dallas.

This time around it’s Star Wars reimagined as the ’80s hit Airwolf. There’s two to choose from — one for Rebels and one for the Imperials. I have to say the theme song plus ship blueprints are spot on. Most impressive. We want more!
