DIY: Yoda Coffee Cup Cozy

Jennifer Landa | September 19, 2012

Yoda Cozy Main

I’ll admit it…I’m a coffee lover.  Whether it’s a Dark Side Roast or a Coruscant Blend, I always look forward to my cup of caffeinated bliss.  In fact, I quickly turn from Jedi to Sith if I don’t have my usual morning cup o’ Joe.  But sometimes my local coffee shop makes my latte hotter than Mustafar!  So in order to cool my hands and show a little Star Wars flair, I decided to make a reusable coffee cup cozy.  I think this eco-friendly Yoda cozy is a great way to go “green.”  (In more ways than one!)

R2-D2 Likes Cupcakes too!

R2-D2 Likes Cupcakes too!

Sooooo, I have been keeping this a secret for a long time but I am so excited to finally announce that I had the AMAZING opportunity to be a guest judge on this Sunday’s brand new Star Wars episode of The Cupcake Wars! I am a self proclaimed cupcake connoisseur and when I got the call to be on the show, I think the whole neighborhood could hear my excited screams! I joked that I’ve researched my whole life for this one pivotal moment…LOL! I joke, but kidding aside, I was ready. I took it very seriously and I had to try 15 cupcakes in one day! Don’t worry, I paced myself, and it was literally a dream come true. I got to sit on the judging panel with Sprinkles Cupcakes founder Candace Nelson, chef and co-owner of Mad-Mac Florian Bellanger and work with host Justin Willman. They were all so nice and I was completely geeking out on the inside the entire time because I was such a big fan!

501st at Dragon*Con 2012 – My Kind of Convention: Fearless and Inventive

Lawrence Green | September 7, 2012

As the curtain slowly fell on the splendor of Star Wars Celebration VI, with many members of the 501st already beginning preliminary plans for Celebration Europe II, a small, but hardy — some might say die-hard — detachment of troops made their way up to Atlanta, Georgia after a few days recovery for the majesty and wonder that was Dragon*Con 2012.

Dragon*Con Star Wars Costume Contest: Where do we go from here?

DCON2012-SWCC-9

If there’s one thing that’s central to the Dragon*Con experience, it’s costumes. You can’t wave a stick in any of the host hotels without whacking a costumed attendee. (Please, don’t wave sticks at cons with the intent of whacking people.) And because the con is so huge, most tracks have their own costume contests, in addition to the con-wide hall costume contest and the Dragon*Con Masquerade. Star Wars is no exception, but this year was unique because Dragon*Con fell right on the heels of Celebration VI. That meant that some people had opted to attend the less frequent Star Wars con instead of the annual con, and some people attended both, but were too wiped out from CVI to compete their costumes again. This resulted in a slightly smaller field for the Dragon*Con contest. Even with a smaller group, there was no shortage of variety and creativity.

A sushi chef from Japan, Okitsugu Kado, is also well known for his talent in vegetable carving. Oki started creating intricate Star Wars vegetable pieces after making his very first simple R2-D2. His vast amount of talent and love for his art got him on the cover of the UK edition of National Geographic with his very own Darth Vader carrot carving. Oki’s love of Star Wars goes far beyond vegetables. He is a part of the Jedi Order Japan, which now has 70 members, and took part in Star Wars Celebration Japan.

Each Celebration, while working on the programming for the show, I come up with a mental list of what I would do if I were coming to the show as an attendee rather than as part of the production.

Don’t get me wrong – what I do is really fun. I can’t think of any job I would rather do, nor really of anything I would rather do than be behind the scenes at a Celebration. But if I could sneak away from responsibility for a bit here’s where I would go:
