StarWars.com Team | September 9, 2010

“Dawn of Tatooine” by Shan Jiang

Collectors and fans who’d like to add something a little different to their Star Wars art collection should check out this new series of art prints from Mondo.

Mondo is the Alamo Drafthouse’s collectible art boutique, featuring designs from world famous artists based on licenses for popular TV and movie properties including Star Wars, Star Trek and Universal Monsters.

These prints are very limited in run and are snatched up by collectors quickly, selling out in mere minutes. So if you want to know which prints are on sale and when, follow MondoNews on Twitter!

Here’s the most recent print “Dawn of Tatooine” by artist Shan Jiang.

Jiang says about his print:

“Imagining what those people on Tatooine see in every day life is something I wanted to create for this Star Wars poster. One of the sandtroopers is patrolling on the night shift and decides to stay up on a high rock with his dewback. Maybe he is waiting to see the sunrise or just wants to be alone for a little while. It s a little peace before things eventually go wrong.”

Hasbro Discusses New Vintage Line Action Figures

StarWars.com Team | August 30, 2010

IGN Comics ran an in-depth interview today with Hasbro’s Vice President of Marketing, Derryl Depriest, about Hasbro’s new vintage line figures, which will include prequel characters packaged on the classic-style cardbacks familiar to collectors of the ‘70s and ‘80s line. Here’s an excerpt:

Depriest: “What makes the new series different is that this time, it is not limited. The series is open-ended and is planned to run for at least two years, pending fan acceptance. In addition, rather than staying true to updates of the original Kenner series, we are introducing figures from the Prequel Trilogy (Episodes I-III) just as if the original Kenner line had never stopped. Once folks see characters like Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, General Grievous and Commander Cody they will truly understand the nostalgic power that this black and silver line really has; it’s as if Kenner has been making Star Wars figures continuously for the past 32 years!”

Now Available in Chewbacca Pink

Pablo Hidalgo | August 24, 2010

We are extremely impressed by Buzzfeed’s Star Wars-cred worthy headline over here (though we have to dock them a few nerd points for not spelling “Wookiee” correct. Two ‘e’s, people.)

Still, that’s besides the point. The point is JC Penny’s is making this lovely Worthington Cowl Neck w/ Snap Top available in “Chewbacca Pink.”

I’m sure it’s on Mallatobuck’s wish list.

Five Clubs, Five Patches for Celebration V

StarWars.com Team | July 28, 2010

Five of the largest Star Wars collecting clubs in the US are pleased to announce a set of five themed patches for Star Wars Celebration V. The participating clubs are The Washington DC Area Star Wars Collecting Club (DCSWCC), The Kentucky Star Wars Collectors Club (KSWCC), The Ohio Star Wars Collectors Club (OSWCC), The Pennsylvania Star Wars Collecting Society (PSWCS), and the Star Wars Grand Florida Alliance (SWGFA). The five triangular embroidered patches, each sponsored by one of the clubs, fit together like a puzzle to form a larger image of Boba Fett, the show’s de facto mascot. Design and artwork for the patches was provided by long-time web cartoonist Bill Cable.

All five patches will be available exclusively at Star Wars Celebration V and free to attendees, but quantities are extremely limited. Each club will be distributing their sponsored patch in a different way, which will be announced separately.

Exclusive PSWCS Medallions at Celebration V

Pete Vilmur | July 20, 2010

For those fans attending Celebration V and keeping a list of cool exclusives to pick up at the show, here’s one you’ll definitely want to add:

The Pennsylvania Star Wars Collecting Society will be selling Lucasfilm approved, 1.75” medallions featuring an image of Chewbacca for $10 each at their booth at Celebraion V with all proceeds benefiting Canine Corps.

Canine Corps is an organization that cares for the dogs of US military personnel deployed overseas in Iraq, Afghanistan or Africa. They provide this service free of charge to soldiers who would otherwise be forced to give up their companions for adoption. PSWCS is thrilled to have the opportunity to support our American servicemen through this worthy charity.

This medallion is the second PSWCS has produced and sold for charitable efforts. In 2009 PSWCS sold medallions featuring an image of Obi-Wan Kenobi to benefit Operation Ward 57.

The medallions are a one-time, limited run of 1000.

Hasbro Star Wars Comic-Con Exclusive

StarWars.com Team | July 13, 2010

Blair Butler from G4′s Attack of the Show visits Hasbro’s headquarters in Rhode Island to check out some of the new exclusive toys they’ll be revealing at San Diego Comic-Con 2010. And of course, that means Star Wars exclusives!

WATCH VIDEO: Sneak Peek at Hasbro’s Comic-Con Toys

Blair Butler (G4 – Attack of the Show):
It would not be Comic-Con without a Star Wars exclusive!

Chad Donvito (Senior Brand Manager, Hasbro):
It’s another comic pack with two exclusive figures. The real kind of “ah ha” for me in this pack is Darth Maul with bionic legs. So Darth Maul comes back and what would he look like if he was put back together again?

Blair:
It’s this crazy roided out Darth Maul after he got chopped in half by Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon, and he’s back and has little spider legs, right?

Chad:
He does have spider legs. And the unexpected hero that comes along with him in this pack is Own Lars.
