Lost Tribe of the Sith Cover Reveals

StarWars.com Team | January 12, 2012

Today Random House reveals two covers from its Lost Tribe of the Sith series: Secrets, which is the eighth and final episode in the epic Lost Tribe of Sith free eBook series, and Lost Tribe of the Sith: The Collected Stories, which will come out in paperback on July 31. Here are the synopses from the publisher:

Star Wars: Lost Tribe of the Sith: Secrets by John Jackson Miller

In Sith teachings, nothing is more important than the individual: the glorious center of the universe, around which all other lives pale in importance. But the planetary home of the Lost Tribe of the Sith is not the center of the universe, but a backwater — and the tribe’s legendary founders were little more than slaves themselves!

When the Lost Tribe suddenly rediscovers its forgotten origins, frustration and anger threaten to finish the society once and for all. But the past holds more secrets still — knowledge that, in the right hands, could place the evil rulers of Kesh on a path toward a greater destiny in the stars…

The free eBook will be available in all eFormats on March 5, 2012 and will feature an excerpt from Star Wars: Fate of the Jedi: Apocalypse, the final installment in the epic Fate of the Jedi series.

Star Wars: Lost Tribe of the Sith: The Collected Stories by John Jackson Miller

At last, collected in one volume and available in print for the first time, the eight original installments of the epic Lost Tribe of the Sith eBook series… along with the explosive, never-before-published finale, Pandemonium—more than one hundred pages of new material!

Five thousand years ago. After a Jedi ambush, the Sith mining ship Omen lies wrecked on a remote, unknown planet. Its commander, Yaru Korsin, battles the bloodshed of a mutinous faction led by his own brother. Marooned and facing death, the Sith crew have no choice but to venture into their desolate surroundings. They face any number of brutal challenges—vicious predators, lethal plagues, tribal people who worship vengeful gods—and like true Sith warriors, counter them with the dark side of the Force.

The struggles are just beginning for the proud, uncompromising Sith, driven as they are to rule at all costs. They will vanquish the primitive natives, and they will find their way back to their true destiny as rulers of the galaxy. But as their legacy grows over thousands of years, the Sith ultimately find themselves tested by the most dangerous threat of all: the enemy within.

As the description mentions, this paperback edition will feature an all new novella length story also written by John Jackson Miller and will be available on July 31, 2012. More info here!

Darth Plagueis Exclusive Excerpt

StarWars.com Team | January 9, 2012

In anticipation of tomorrow’s (January 10) release of Star Wars: Darth Plagueis by James Luceno, we are posting this exclusive excerpt of an exchange between Dooku (still a Jedi Knight) and Palpatine. The scene resonates as a prelude to Episode II and The Clone Wars

Behind each of the Rotunda’s hover platform docking stations extended wedge-shaped office complexes more than half a kilometer in length, where Senators met with one another, entertained guests, and, on rare occasions, carried out the work they had been elected or appointed to perform. Some of the offices were sealed environments, in which the atmospheres of member worlds were replicated; others, especially those belonging to hive species, were staffed by hundreds of beings who performed their duties in cubicles that resembled nectarcomb cells. By comparison, Naboo’s was rather prosaic in design and adornment, and yet unrivaled in terms of the number of high-profile visitors it received.

“I’m giving thought to leaving the Order,” Master Dooku told Palpatine in the windowless room that was the Senator’s private study. “I can no longer abide the decisions of the Council, and I have to be free to speak my mind about the wretched state of the Republic.”

Palpatine didn’t reply, but thought: Finally.

Inside How to Speak Wookiee

StarWars.com Team | October 21, 2011

Art by JAKe

Ever wonder how to order a Bantha Burger or talk about Picasso with Wookiees? Now you can learn how to flirt AND conduct business meetings with Chewbacca’s friends. The new book How to Speak Wookiee from Chronicle Books shows you how to do this and more with chapters like “At the Restaurant” and “On Public Transportation!” Plus the book has handy sound files so you can sound like a Wookiee in no time!

Star Wars artist JAKe illustrates the book with his unique and whimsical style. Born in Hull, England, JAKe was raised by Wookiees from a young age. He speaks the Wookiee language fluently, but with a strong Northern accent. He now lives and works in London, and would never use a cheap Jedi mind-trick to make you visit his site Jake-art.com.

StarWars.com chats with JAKe about his illustrations for the book, his favorite scenes and if his Wookiee roar has improved.

How did you decide what Wookiee scenes you wanted to draw?

The script for the book came in and some scenes like the restaurant and art gallery, where already in the text. Some of the others scenes just specified “Wookiee Scenario” so I could come up with my own scene. I thought it was important to have a holochess scene.

I love the restaurant scene… though shouldn’t a Wookiee chef wear a hair net?

He IS wearing a hair net. It’s just that it’s a barely visible full body hair net. That particular chef specializes in rural Wookiee cuisine. In some remote parts of Kashyyyk, it’s considered good luck for visitors to eat a dish containing Wookiee chef hair. Coughing up the furballs at the end of the meal is the Wookiee equivalent of the dessert trolley.

Wookiees in a Meeting is another one of my favorite scenes! What kind of things do you think Wookiees talk about in meetings?

Wookiees discuss many subjects in meetings, but mainly, discussions start with “Is the air-conditioning actually on in this building?” (“Arrrrrwrrrrrronnkkk raarrh”) and continue in this vein, until someone mentions the topic of lunch. Wookiees have a distinct low tolerance for management-speak like “Blue sky thinking,” “Going Forward” and “Singing from the same hymn sheet” and subsequently, the sound of arms being ripped from sockets is a common sound throughout the intergalactic business community.

Vote for the Next Star Wars Action Figure

StarWars.com Team | October 21, 2011

Take part in the official Hasbro Fans’ Choice poll to decide which Star Wars character will go into production next!

Star Wars Insider magazine and Hasbro have joined forces to give Star Wars fans the chance to vote for a Star Wars character to be made into an action figure! The figure will be included in Hasbro’s Star Wars action figure line in 2013, in time for the 30th anniversary of Return of the Jedi.

There are twenty Star Wars characters in the running. The winning character will be announced at Hasbro’s 2012 Collector-Fan Media Day event at Toy Fair in New York in February 2012.

“Everybody loves collecting Star Wars and this is a rare chance to vote for a character to be made into an action figure, says Jonathan Wilkins, Star Wars Insider editor. “There are some really diverse characters to choose from; from the movies to the Expanded Universe; from the dreaded Emperor Palpatine to the cute Princess Kneesa. We want as many fans as possible to get involved! Who will you choose? You can read more about the history of the fan poll in the latest issue of Star Wars Insider, out now! Get voting!”

The toy that makes it into production will be decided by this poll alone, so this really is your chance to stake a claim for the toy you’d like to own most.

To place your vote, visit the Star Wars Insider magazine website.
