Every summer, tens of thousands of people flock to Atlanta to attend one of the largest pop culture conventions in the nation: Dragon Con. As always there was a considerable Star Wars presence at the convention this year, with celebrities like Billy Dee Williams, Daniel Logan, and Matt Wood in attendance.

I had the chance to sit in on the panel featuring young Boba Fett himself, Daniel Logan, and the voice of General Grievous, Matt Wood. The panel was moderated by author (and writer for this blog) Bryan Young.

Bryan started out the panel by asking the guests to describe their personal Star Wars fandom before they worked on the films. Daniel Logan said that he had never heard of Star Wars; he was very young when he was cast to play the part of Boba Fett in Attack of the Clones. He said that his aunt told him his life would change. “And now I am here in Atlanta telling stories about my life as Boba Fett.”

Matt said he was a fan from the age of five, and that he would take the cardboard tubes from the Christmas wrapping paper and run around the house with his friends playing Star Wars. He started working for Lucasfilm when he was only 17, testing video games. “It was a complete dream come true and I never left.”

It’s that time of year again.  The summer holidays are over and it’s time for the kids to head back to school.  This can be a sad time for kids because their vacation is over, but it should also be an exciting time because they will be learning all new things this year!  A great way to get kids excited for school and learning is to get some fun reading material into their hands.  They are going to be doing book reports, why not use Star Wars themed books?  Here are some fun Star Wars books for readers of all ages.

The Clone Wars is such a big deal that there were two Season 5 preview panels, one on Saturday and one on Sunday, at Star Wars Celebration VI.  I love the show, so I went to both.  On Saturday attendees were treated to an amazing surprise.  GEORGE LUCAS SHOWED UP!  Yes, the creator himself briefly came out and talked some Clone Wars with Supervising Director Dave Filoni and VFX Supervisor Joel Aron.

On Saturday at Star Wars Celebration Pablo Hidalgo and creature expert Tom Spina hosted a panel that focused on the aliens of the cantina seen in the original Star Wars movie.  They were joined on stage by Nick Maley who was part of the UK creature team and Jon Berg who was part of the US creature team.  Pablo said, “We conspired to create a panel that would be the ultimate panel that we would want to see if we were attending Celebration and I think we have come up with something special.”

SWCVI: An Hour With Anthony Daniels

Throughout the six Star Wars films there has been a constant, and that person is Anthony Daniels, the actor who portrayed C-3PO.  On day two of Star Wars Celebration Mr. Daniels did his “An Hour with Anthony Daniels” show.  I call it a show and not a panel because that is exactly what it was, an amazing show.  I had the privilege to see him host Star Wars in Concert but that was a scripted performance.  When you give Anthony Daniels a microphone and a giant crowd with no script, it is a whole different type of show.
